DJI Osmo Action 3 Major Flaw! Focus Test vs GoPro Hero 11

I canceled my preorder for the Action 3 after watching a few videos online and seeing they were all out of focus. This is definitely a hardware issue, not a firmware issue. Firmware electronic sharpening will over sharpen the in focus areas and it won't be good. Andre at Worth It Or Not has been running a lot of tests comparing it to the GoPro and just returned his. People need to return it to send a message to DJI.

I am holding off buying the action 3. We need a resolution soon, quicker the better. They have an opportunity to do the right thing and fix the hardware. Doing it swiftly and customer focused will gain them strength whilst appearing over the issue will do them harm.

If you really want to prove it's out of focus, try removing the front lens protector and unscrewing the main lens a bit. I remember having my gopro hero 3 silver and I did that to achieve near macro like focusing. I doubt this is something a firmware update can fix and more then likely will require you to send your camera in for adjustment, or issue a return policy to get one replaced with a focused lens. That sucks though, I'm glad I stuck with my choice of going with gopro 11. NGL, seems like DJI is slipping a bit with their quality control on recent releases. Either choosing to release products to soon before they got all the bugs worked out (DJI mini 3 pro) or releasing products with features still missing until they got the firmware ready for the public ( Mavic 3 + Action 2 +3). I'd rather wait an extra month or two for DJI to get their bugs worked out of a product vs getting a product and having to wait and hope for a fix to come later on.

There is definitely an issue with the focus that needs to be sorted out and DJI do need to sort it out asap. An expensive mistake for me selling on the HERO 10 and going for the action 3 and then having to buy the HERO 11 and media mod again 🙄 to get decent image quality, still the HERO 11 is better than the 10 in some ways, though the osmo aciton 3 with its clip system, seamless wifi connectivity, preview while recording and ability to connect an external usb c mic directly means if they can manage to sort out the focus issue, then it would be by far the best action camera option.

Yup, from my testing it's really appears to be a hardware/lens issue that "I" don't feel a firmware update can correct.

I wonder if it might be even a compromise they made to get a larger depth of field at the expense of Sharpness.

Well it appears that Amazon has pulled virtually all of the DJI Action 3's off their site and DJI has sent out some e-mails to those that recently purchased it that their delivery of the Action 3 will be pushed back a month (until end of November). Guess it was NOT a firmware issue like many had said, it was hardware related.

Best comparison. I would have liked also seeing still images with distant objects like buildings. The brick wall example might have been affected by the movement. GoPro looks great, but the digital sharpening looks too strong

Me too , because of its usability : magnetic clips , Live view via mobile app , connecting mic. without adapter : i prefer to wait hoping they fix it soon .

Thanks for the info! It'd be great if DJI can find a solution for this! I'm still holding on to my Action 3 anyway, there are things I like about the Action 3 that unfortunately, I can't find on the GPHero11 or other action cameras for that matter.

The firmware update will make the image worse, with too much digital sharpening. Especially if DJI eventually fixes the hardware. It should be a recall. DJI should offer to adjust the digital sharpening settings in camera, like GoPro does.

@@Rush-Media Many thanks for the info , yt has processing difficulties last couple of weeks i supppose. It takes too long for hd processing which im having the same issue for my uploaded videos. I will wait till its hd to see the difference/improvement if there is one. My video will be available tomorrow at 19:30 in my channel with last fw on bicycle. When i look in my computer for straight out files , in general looks okay.

i thought the same, until i tested it. its a hardware assembly fail. Thex need to fix this and reapair all the already shipped out ones, thats fraud imo, this is no crowdfunding company. im pretty sure every camera is faulty and imo its not acceptable!

Very disheartening... One camera will only run for 5 seconds (gopro), the other is out of focus.... Since I need one that runs for hours and hours, I can only buy the DJI. Is there a fix for this???

Just to be clear, I have never had a GoPro overheat in use. Only when doing these stress tests. But if you are filming indoors and there is no air flow then a GoPro will do better with stabilisation off, gps off, screens off.

DJI have said there's an error in firmware and it's been fixed in the new version. Most people on their forum are now happy. End of story it would appear.

@@Rush-Media Doubt it's fixed. Users are saying that the wide angle and super wide angle look okay, but think it's DJI fans that are fooling themselves. For my purposes, wanted to use the linear non-warped view, and that looked bad even after the firmware update.

Its a 4k sensor. Already cropped in for stabilization. You’re not getting a true 4k image output with the action 3. So many youtubers capped about the action 3 when they all brought out their videos.

Just screw in the lens little more... Fixed!
