Great stuff man! I make documentaries and have been using an old cheap and china made gimbal untill today, where I upgraded to the RSC-2. It is perfect for me, because I travel light weight. I use it along with my A7C and Mavic Air II. Banger setup for a documentary filmmaker!

I’m thinking of purchasing an A7iii, what opinions do you have on that? I mostly do photography, but am into video as well. The A7 c is more video focused isn’t it? I think the A7ii will be a perfect stills camera that can do video. Cheers

The title is misleading. You barely talked about the RSC-2 and how it compares to the RS2. Especially when it comes to the stabilization/jitters/need to recalibrate, etc.

Thank you for your review. I have a question, from your experience, is the RSc2 a good and easy to use gimbal for portrait/vertical video shooting? Thanks.
@learningcameras
@learningcameras 2 жыл бұрын
So, it's not the worst but it doesn't hold the camera itself vertically and the vertical mode (which it has) doesn't have as much range of movement or features since the back arm is curved. Thus I typically put my camera in a cage with the tripod plate on the side so I can physically mount it vertically if you shoot that way a lot. Again, it has a vertical mode but that doesn't work as well as physically mounting the camera on the gimbal in a vertical orientation so I'd look for a gimbal with that ability if you need vertical a lot

Hey! Thanks so much. Definitely this works well with the A1 as would the RSC2. If you are using heavier lenses like the 24-70 F2.8 GM and higher, I'd probably go with the RS2. I don't know much about how much camera adjustments you get though because I rarely actually hook my gimbal up via USB...I just prefer using the camera controls and not having to worry about wires.

@@learningcameras So would this imply that you've been pressing the record button from the camera rather then gimbal? And the gimbal doesn't *need* to connect via any cables to use for just stabilization, you just won't be able to control the camera functions from the gimbal in that case?
@learningcameras
@learningcameras 2 жыл бұрын
@@abstractempirephotography Yep, I just press the record button on the camera rather than the gimbal. You might get a little shake for a split second but that's usually fine. You don't NEED to connect any cables for stabilization...just for some features like Timelapse's and to control the camera from the gimbal although the new DJI RS3 doesn't need cables to control Sony cameras!

Good information but you’ve only made me more confused ...do I get the RS or the CS... but more importantly than all the features is which gimbal gives you the smoothest movement. That’s really the most important element. And I’ve heard that the weebil is just as good. Your thoughts on that please.
@learningcameras
@learningcameras 3 жыл бұрын
Both gimbals give you about the same movement/stabilization. The RS does better if you have a larger load or un-even loads (large lens or battery grips) and has a few extra features if you use manual lenses or more advanced functions. But for straight gimbal work with a smaller/balanced setup, the RSC2 is awesome. I personally have not used the weebil so no comment on that one

Thank you. You’ve probably just saved me some money cause I’m going to go with a less expensive… At least for now. I would love the carbon fiber. But for me the main element is to make my camera move smoothly. So thanks again.

I just bought the Ronin SC and it cannot balance my Sony A7sIII with the Sigma 50mm Art lens. It's just too front heavy. Now I'm considering to go straight for the Ronin RS2.. Hope it doesn't have the samme issues like the SC (which was that the EV hit the motor all the time)

Hey Dan I just got an RSC2 and have it perfectly balanced but I’m getting a few micro jitters and swaying.. It’s especially visible in portrait mode.. when you say increase settings do you increase stiffness under “basic” settings or stiffness and/or strength under “advanced” settings
@learningcameras
@learningcameras 2 жыл бұрын
Interesting. So yes, usually if the auto stiffness settings are not working well, you will want to try and modify things. Usually I'll start low and work my way up but having the stiffness and strength too high can also lead to issues. This is pretty standard with all gimbals though

How much more compact is the folded rsc2 than the rs2 without the handle attached? Is there that much of a difference between the two? I do a lot of travel work using light weight setups, but love the features of the RS2. So trying to get a sense of the relative packability of the two models; esp if I were to just slip them into an existing camera bag vs using the separate case they come with.
@learningcameras
@learningcameras 4 жыл бұрын
In a way the sc2 is smaller because the handle detaches so the gimbal without the handle is small and the handle is pretty easy to store. The RSC-2 gets pretty small but because the handle is still attached it requires more space in a single compartment. But both easily fit in a small backpack

Hey! I would just do the Base RS-2 unless you are planning on using manual focus: amzn.to/3j75dGo If you are using autofocus mostly, the RS2 comes with everything you need including the tabletop tripod, cables, gimbal, and case. The Combo mostly is adding the system for adding manual focus motors to the gimbal for controlling your lens. The only other useful upgrade in the combo is the RavenEye system which allows you to control everything wirelessly send your camera signal to your phone for remote monitoring

Questions. Is it a Manfrotto plate, replacable with other Manfrotto plates? Is the Arca-Swiss plate also actually standard Arca-swiss and replacable with any other Arca-swiss plate? Seems like the Ronin-S2 is pretty limited in it's controls of the Sony A7S3? Record, manual focus, but no battery charging?
@learningcameras

Thanks for a great video and intereresting comparison! I'm trying to decide between the RS2 and RSC2 to use with my a7S III, and I'm leaning more and more towards the RSC2. But then there's also the Pro Combo or not... All these decisions... :p I don't need the focus motor at all, so the only tempting thing in the Pro Combo is the Raven Eye. But how do you feel about that, since the a7S III has such great AF and tracking system already? Cheers, Eivind
@learningcameras
@learningcameras 4 жыл бұрын
Hey! So I personally just use AF on the gimbal with my SIII. It's so amazing I haven't found a reason not to use it lol. Given that I think you can skip the pro combo since you are not shooting manual lenses. I also have been finding the RSC2 to be absolutely plenty for my SIII setups even with heavier lenses like a 24-70 or 16-35 but definitely it is more comfortable with smaller lenses. If you plan on using F2.8 zooms all the time, maybe the RS2 but for smaller primes, Tamron F2.8 zooms, or the occasional big Sony F2.8 zoom, the RSC2 is fine.

hey Dan like your videos ,I got A7sIII recently,could u give me some advises about which one should I buy?is rs2 worth extra $400 ?
@learningcameras
@learningcameras 4 жыл бұрын
Hey! Honestly, I'm preferring the RSC2 so unless you really need the extra load or room to mount a larger rig, I'd say you should be fine with the RSC2 for the SIII

Where is vertical video ?
@learningcameras
@learningcameras 4 жыл бұрын
You can do it but I personally don't shoot vertical video. If anything I shoot horizontal in 4k and reframe in post for 1080p vertical delivery. That way I still have the original wide video

@@learningcameras what do you mean by that?
@DannyTrombley
@DannyTrombley 4 жыл бұрын
@@yaboibakalli he means he still shoots in standard horizontal (16x9) in 4k resolution. Shooting in 4k allows you to zoom in quite a bit without a loss of quality for a 1080p output. So in premiere pro or whatever editor u use you can set the sequence setting to be 9x16 instead of 16x9 giving u a vertical sequence. U then shift the footage around using the position and scale to focus where u want it to be (aka setting your composition). So ultimately he shoots horizontal so he can use the image for standard displays and then edits it so they work in vertical if needed for something like ig stories, reels or igtv. Hope that helped

Hey! So the Raven Eye works perfectly with the SIII in all my tests. It goes HDMI out to the raven eye and USB out to the gimbal. You can pair both in the Ronin app and I had no issues at all
