Part 7 of the Civilian To Soldier series!
You will get to see what it's really like to go through Basic Training and the process of transforming from a regular civilian into a fully trained Infantry soldier.
This week is a key milestone for the platoon. They deployed on Introductory Exercise 3 - the TEST exercise for the Basic Phase. They will be assessed on their ability to administer themselves in the field, basic soldiering such as Fire & Manoeuvre and camouflage, and we threw in something to test their grit 💪
Feel free to put questions in the comments!

Having served a full 22 years i had the opportunity to see many changes being introduced into the training syllabus and importantly the standard of kit being raised each time ., i commend this series and its content which has the right balance to capture its audience in You tube which in my mind, not only honestly informs its viewers who may be considering a career in the British Army , but also those like my self who have served and who are keeping up with the times...well done.

The one thing I always tell soldiers in my units and it’s even in the SA80 training pamphlet is you’re not supposed to fully clean the weapon in the field and make it look shiny and clean. You’re not even supposed to take the working parts out in the field unless they’re rusting. Just remove excess carbon and rust, oil and that’s it

Hi Josh. @robert has pretty much answered it for me! The reason that recruits may be back squadded is so that they can have the opportunity to re-learn it and get to the standard required.

When out on deployment, you obviously receive a bonus which I think is £10,000? But whilst on your deployment, do you still receive your monthly payment of I believe around £1,000 aswell as deployment bonus?
@djrxp
@djrxp 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Charlie, the bonus you receive will depend on the length of the deployment on each operation. From experience, it is approx. £5k for a 6 month tour. However, you receive your basic pay each month you are deployed (as normal) and on top of this you will get paid extra for being deployed. You can also get paid more for being deployed in a certain country. And the more time away you do whilst serving, you get paid more each day!

You always have someone there who will just talk about that one word “Danger”. I personally understand the price of joining the army. You risk your life. I acknowledge the possibility of death. I just trust myself, I rely on myself. You’ve got to just trust yourself even more and that you’re gonna do very well. Good luck, mate. I hope this helped you.

I’d say stretcher with dummy about 60-70kg, about 4-5km maybe. Couldn’t tell where they were at properly and the day sacks / Burgans probably weigh about 15-25kg max.

There are multiple reasons why recruits will leave the platoon. It could be due to injury, missing too much training or because they might need to revisit a certain part they didn't get right the first time. This happens throughout the course but is not something to be concerned about. It is only ever done to ensure that each recruit completes training and is at the required standard

@@yesyesoyes72 well mate, i'm currently joining the Royal Marine Commandos and they are bundled up with the navy applications aswell as RAF, and my medical paperwork was processed and i had a triage call about 2-3 weeks later. With the army they have their own processing centre for applications and medicals, so i would imagine it would be even faster for the army. However, there is no harm in applying early; you just need to be completely sure that you are ready. As for utilising the time to prepare for assessment centre, you can find all needed info online and there are even some discord servers you can join for all your information.
