So, like I was saying, OVALS ARE FOR PEOPLE WHO CAN'T DRIVE! JK 😜 This was an absolute blast, dude, I had so much fun! I was sincerely impressed that you were able to set the time you set in a completely foreign car and track, in the rain, with your self imposed handicap. Crazy skill, and frankly, with more seat time I'm confident you'd be able to match or beat my lap. As for the Arca car, man, that thing is a whole other ball game! The level of finesse and poise that's required to drive that thing quickly without upsetting it is absolutely bonkers. While I was very much joking with my reddit comment, after racing you in that beast I have to clear the air with my oval driving cousins; You guys can, in fact, DRIVE. Much respect. Much thanks for the shoutout, and it was a pleasure to get to know you better :) Stay tuned to DJ, folks, he is most certainly going places! As long as they're anti clockwise and dry 🤣
@gamechip06Ай бұрын
Hell yeah, you both were incredible! I just started iracing 2 days ago and haven't preferred any category yet but I enjoy the vee, the Miata, and the mini stock. Based on my limited experience, I do think oval racing has a lower skill floor (because I crashed less :p), but that doesn't mean the skill ceiling isn't as high, as car control and tire management are skills both styles need mastery of to be fast. It is nice to see the 2 worlds coming together and making for such an enjoyable interaction. I think F1 drivers in Indycar is another good example of the related but not exact skill set of the two disciplines. As for me, I'll focus on keeping the car on track lol.

As a road driver (mainly) who absolutely loves Ovals, I have an alternative view of this take Ovals are not for people who can't drive, that's not true in the slightest. Takes a lot to keep a 2.2 ton 700hp boat turning left the way you want it to. Ovals (fixed setup) are in fact for people who don't have time to prepare. If I know the Oval even slightly, I can do 10 or so laps, find the right line and have some idea how the tires degrade and how the car evolves and I can do a competent race. However, learning a road course takes a good chunk of time and if it doesn't click or if it's not a track I know, or know from other games, it can be daunting

The unique thing about Zolder, I find, are the first two turns. Their apexes/MRPs are so early. They start straight(ish) and finish in an expanding spiral. You have to brake just right, but not too much, and trust that you have enough run off. It’s like a blind turn.

Dj needs a solidly mounted seat ffs. He is losing so much time and precision from the seat movement and not being able to push himself back in his chair. If you took high quality photos of your desk and chair from a few angles each, I could probably come up with something.

Extremely fun video concept and great sportsmanship from you guys. Its was definitely surprising that it turned out to be someone i recently had followed! Im sure this will be a popular video so if you do it again at some point to maybe give both drivers the same amount of time on a track/car combo they dont know or you do the same as this video, but just saw how long it would take you to hit their lap time. I think the biggest mistake was to limit yourself to an hour of practice. I usually do around 3 or 4 hours of practice at the beginning of the week for road to get good consistent times, but maybe it because im a dirt oval guy irl 😂

Your boy wasnt wrong. Most oval drivers have AWFUL driving standards/decision making. I cannot seem to find clean racing in ovals so I do not race them very often any longer. How many times can they wreck you on the first corner, during the warm up lap behind the pace car, or even under cautions? The answer, when not racing with A drivers, is "most of the time" there is exactly this kind of BS happening in ovals. Its a HUGE turn off. Even formula drivers are easier to navigate than the wreckless oval racers. I cant stand hiding in the back and not actually "racing" so I can have a clean race.. That seems to be the only way I can avoid being rear ended, hooked, brake checked....from my perspective, oval drivers in the sub-A licenses are doo-doo to drive with. Sloppy doo-doo.

@Caldwing8 күн бұрын
This guy focuses mostly on rally. It's pretty easy (though still a mistake, as they are very different skills) to look down on other motorsports when you are decent at rally because nothing else gives you the enormous breadth of driving skills required. It requires you to master weight transfer of the vehicle. Weight transfer is more important the more twisty the track, because it is key to maintaining speed through tight corners. It's possible to get to a surprisingly high level in track racing without having a great feel for weight transfer, though of course top drivers will be masters. Most racing teaches you only right up to but not beyond the limits of grip. Rally is all about playing in that space beyond the limit, and moving back and forth across it at will and without fear. Mastering this allows you to more easily find and ride the limit in a variety of conditions. That's why he did it in the rain. He knows the ingrained training of most track-racers, who have super-human consistency, would actually work against them. It's exactly the same way Michelle Mouton was able to win at Le Mans.
