@@Evil_Empire42 no. You will be blowing more hot air behind your right leg, along with the already hotter right side air. Putting heat to heat only produces more heat.

@@Evil_Empire42 Similar, but not the same. There is more heat on the right side, so it will not feel as cool to the rider. Also there are more obstructions on the right, so the air will not flow around the rear cylinder and out as well with left in place and the right removed.

Just added the air deflector wings and a 1.5 inch tank lift to my 2015 FLHTKL and while I don't have historical data on the Temps in the short time I've noticed that I don't feel the heat like I have before. When I have felt heat off engine due to slow speed and changing direction it quickly disapaits when increasing speed and/or changing travel direction. So I highly recommend. Dk Customs has impressed me with their customer service as well as their products. Tank lift,Cooling defector wings and the 606 AC with Transformer EBS. Order wrong size Thunder Tourque Inserts and DK has gone above and beyond by sending correct size. Just can't beat their customer service.

I totally agree with these tips and have done most of them. However, Pipe wrap? A friend wrapped the pipes on his Shovel and it did keep the heat in but the pipes got so hot that they basically disintegrated.
@DKCustomProducts4 ай бұрын
On the product page it says "DEI does NOT recommend wrapping exhausts made of titanium. The alloys used in the production of titanium exhaust systems tend to be thin and are designed to dissipate heat quickly. Wrapping any titanium exhaust pipe, regardless of brand, can hold in too much heat, and make the titanium alloy turn brittle and prone to premature cracking." If his exhaust was Titanium it is possible that was the issue. Kevin has had exhaust wrap on his Sportster exhaust for 10+ years and they have not rusted or gotten brittle. Here is a video about good exhaust wrap- kzbin.info/www/bejne/j5uagauQjayboZY Thanks for commenting! MB

Kevin, I wrapped my bassani header tonight, but now read some techs saying the heat trapped in the header by wrap has molten effect on some headers and that most vendors will not warranty headers that have been wrapped!! Thank you for your replies to all our questions, reason I wanted to wrap is hot hot right foot/ankle with just shields!
@DKCustomProducts2 жыл бұрын
If wrap will make a molten effect on headers, it could be one, or both, of these two reasons: 1. Engine is running too hot for it's own good (regardless of the wrap) 2. Cheaply made exhaust. There are more and more knock-offs coming out of Asia, some with really poor quality It is understandable that an exhaust MFG. will not warranty wrapped headers. They have not control over whether the bike will be put up with wet wrap, time after time. Done enough, it can result in rust and eventual failure. I also have the Dakota gauges where I can monitor oil temp and head temp. The head temp at its hottest was 333 deg. while the oil temp was 175 deg. This was on a 75-80 day. What are your thoughts I'm not sure if I want to raise the tank. Thanks.
@DKCustomProducts Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your business, we appreciate it. When you say the head temp at its hottest was 333 F. What was this measured with? The Power Vision ET gauge is what gets the direct temp read out from the embedded OEM heat sensor. There is a read out on the PV of Cylinder Head Temp, this is not an accurate reading of anything. It is a computed number that is not stable or reliable. I do know that the oil temp read out on the Dakota Digital has not been accurate the few times we have tested it. We have also had Customers report to us that it is not accurate. The way you can test your oil temp accuracy is to measure it at the dipstick hole...use a oven thermometer, and see if the reading is close to what the DD is giving you. Here is a video that I believe will be very useful in explaining the different readings the ECM uses- kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZqfFhZ6Iq6uUbpI One other thing to note, it takes the oil far longer to heat up than the OEM heat sensor. To get an accurate reading, you will want to ride at a good clip (50 mph or more) for close to 45 minutes for the engine to fully warm up and get an accurate read of your fully warmed up oil. If, after riding for 45 minutes, you are able to verify that the oil (at the dipstick) is 200-230 F and that the heat sensor in the cylinder head is over 300 F, then you will know that your oil cooler is working very well, but that not enough air is getting to the engine to keep it down in the optimum temp range (which for your M8 is between 230-260 F), and that you will benefit from increased air flow to the engine.

@DKCustomProducts3 ай бұрын
Yes, some of the air blown over the engine will be in the pathway of the air cleaner, especially at a standstill and going up to about 20 mph. It still produces a net effect of much lower engine temperature and a corresponding increase in performance. Floorboards are done on the cheep to with pieces of pipe cut to 1" and used as a spacer and longer bolts , this is also a much more comfortable riding position .. external breathers are obvious .. I always wanted an Ultra for the lowers , my '88 Tour Glide was last year before the TGU , so never got one of those , as soon as the RGU hit the floor I got one , and 1) the vents would not stay open and 2) I hated them , they have been hanging in the shop since the second month I got this bike .. I need your help before I buy my next bike. I like the Street Glide and want to buy the ST model. When I do my research on them so many people comment on how bad the wind buffeting is and the best way is to install the fork fangs. But here on this video you say to remove them when the outside temp is 70 and over. Why don't you recommend to remove lowers too, would they also block air like the fork fangs? Can I leave them on and install a oil cooler fan to help things out and not get it too hot? I am in California and can not install any tuner to help out and the FL-ViED Fuel Enrichment for Harley EFI Plug-n-Play you sell are not available for the newer M8. When I ask others about the Street Glide buffeting some say to just get a Road Glide or to install the fork fangs. I would not be running lowers or the wind baffle, just the fangs. If the fork fangs and baffle raise the temp when hot outside by 20 degrees or so, will or can a oil cooler fan lower it back down 20 degrees or so with just the fangs? Will your cooling wings still work with the fangs installed to help things out? Thank You!!
@DKCustomProducts2 жыл бұрын
Everybody experiences buffeting differently. So many variables: How tall Slouch or sitting up straight How tall are the handlebars Backrest or not Helmet Foot placement and much more. I would recommend riding a Street Glide and seeing if buffeting is even an issue for you. One of the biggest ways, for many who experience buffeting, to reduce it is to get a recurve windshield. Lowers do not block air flowing to the engine like the fangs do. Lower push air onto the engine in two ways. 1. They are rounded, with the inside half directing air onto the engine 2. They have vents that can be opened to direct air past the engine Say your engine is running at 270* and you put fangs on, that bumps it up to 290*, then you put an oil cooler on, that will drop oil temps by about 20* and engine temps by about 10*, so now your engine temp is 280*. Whereas, if you start at 270* and do an oil cooler (-10* ET), Cooling Deflector Wings (-10* ET), and tank lift (-10* ET), you are now down to 240* ET, a full 50* less than adding fangs, and 40* less than fangs and an oil cooler. Yes, CDW's will work in conjunction with fangs. A tank lift and cooling deflector wings do about 70% as much good at reducing buffeting (for those that experience it) as the fangs. @@DKCustomProducts Thank you for the help. I am always told to install fangs to get rid of the buffeting. Is there a recipe that will work for cooling that include the installed fangs? I would be installing fangs, replacing the stock oil cooler with the electric fan Harley version like the police bikes come with and doing the wing deflectors you have, would this be OK and reduce the heat enough or are the fangs as you say going to reduce so much wind even with your wind deflectors I should not run them?

@@ericjames7680 There are many things you can do to cool it down...even with the fangs. It is just that you are starting in the hole by 20* with the fangs. And as you had told us, I just got off the phone with Harley and they stated that 300 degrees is normal, then I told him yes but not at the recommended per manual temp just as you said! I would not be able to install the oil cooler you recommend because this would be a new bike purchase and void my warranty but I think the tank lift and wind deflector you offer would be OK. I would however have them install the Harley part fan/oil cooler that is standard on the Police bikes here in California.

Ok, I thinking about adding one Mid frame shield/scoop , but for the mid-frame shields, looking it over, I'm going to have to ask as a matter of engine cooling only (not rider comfort issue considered): Don't you think removing only the right side (rather than the left) would better serve? The left side shield is farther from the cylinder head and partly due to being out from the cylinder and not having a large airfilter box in front of it, its likely can scoop more air due to this, and by removing the Much-closer to the cylinder, right side shield.. I wondering,, wouldn't esp at no or slow movement traffic, that the heat could escape easier as opposed to the left side (since the cylinder is tucked farther under the tank)?
@DKCustomProducts2 жыл бұрын
We recommend having the right side deflector in place and no deflector on the left for the following reasons. 1. There is more heat on the right, so having the scoop there also shields the rider and passenger from some of that heat. 2. The air flows much smoother from right to left, than left to right. So by leaving it on the right, it will result in more and faster flow of air past the rear cylinder. 3. If at any point you decide to add cooling fans, then #2 above is even more significant This has been our experience, both in real life testing and with a fan and smoke pen. We did not video that, so we may do that experiment again with the smoke pen & video it this time.

What are fork faings ?
@DKCustomProducts2 жыл бұрын
They are wind deflectors that mount on the forks. Here is a link to a photo of some- www.harley-davidson.com/content/dam/h-d/images/product-images/parts/batch-3/57400143/57400143_OB.tif You can see how they block a significant amount of air from flowing over the engine.

Can triple tree rake be put on a 2019 HD trike?
@DKCustomProducts3 жыл бұрын
Yes, there are several companies that make rake kits for the HD Trikes. One place you can contact that sells them, and can install them if you want, is Cut-n-Shoot Customs in Texas.
