SM needs to realise that Super M needs time and many more albums to 'cement' themselves in the US music industry, and to prove to fans and the gp that they truly deserve all the titles they have been giving themselves, but seeing as members will start going to the military in a year or two, it's not going to happen, and neither will they be able to make the impact they want before that time.

@muzikk675 жыл бұрын
Honestly, I don't think they expect this group to be big. I think they're introducing the idea of using already known idols from different groups while certain members are away at the military. That way the members who are not at the military can still make some money instead of waiting around for other members to come back. I don't think SuperM will be the only group that SM will try this concept on or that the current members are permanent . Also, I think it's a way to cement NCT into the same league as the older groups which have much more brand recognition.
@Icannotbelieve6935 жыл бұрын
muzikk67 I could see your point about doing this with other groups or the members not being permanent if it wasn’t for the fact that the whole idea was Capitol’s not SM’s. It does come at a very convenient time for Taemin and Kai and I have even wondered about them switching members out since according to some sources Baekhyun will have to enlist next year (although others say 2021), but looking at their singing and the things they have said, I can see them being able to perform while missing one member at a time with just a couple months off till one gets out after another has gone in. Everyone is really under estimating NCT’s popularity though, and while I do like their music EXO is the group I stan. I watched the news and read the news articles written about 127 on their tour and they did really well, people claiming that this is a group just to prop up NCT or make them more popular haven’t really looked at what they have done. They don’t need this to make them more popular, yes it may hasten it some but they do Not Need it. The facts about SuperM though is that while there are a lot against them for whatever reason, if you look at polls from neutral sites the ones for it far out weigh the ones against it and usually the ones that are meh about it out number those against it. I was also shocked at the concert tour with only 5 songs released but they have a very healthy amount of work that they have done as solos or pairs that they can do, plus Baekhyun has said that they have new songs that will be in the concerts that they haven’t released yet. They also sold out many of their concerts within the first day. These guys in this group are very nice, talented, hard working, not to mention very good looking and they know people are underestimating them if not wanting them to downright fail and they will work their butts of to make sure that doesn’t happen. People also have this inflated idea that this group was created to take another groups spot which is ridiculous! Maybe, if it wasn’t for the fact that people can like more than one group but they can and like Taemin has said they feel like there is plenty of room for more than one group and they aren’t trying to compete with anyone they just want to spread Kpop.

The lyrics being mindless and only a flex is due to the fact that it's catered to the US market, not because they think it's 'typical KPop'
@RinUesu15 жыл бұрын
Jopping isn't catered to Americans no matter how SM or Superm say that it is. As hard as it seems we Americans are tired of the flexing of money, cars, sex, and girls of the rapper/singer. We want something different than that. As hard as it is to grasp we like deep meaningful things. It's a stereotypical thing to assume we as a whole, think that way. The only thing we would honestly like about this is the dancing and that's it, but that can't last forever when superm wasn't designed for just dancing.
@faithcarponelli5 жыл бұрын
@@RinUesu1 I never said Americans all just enjoy mindless music. Obviously, just like anywhere else, there are lots of people that want other things as well. But SuperM is targeting the American market and is going for a broad audience and therefore they go for stereotypes. Even if there are lots of Americans that prefer deep lyrics there's no denying that this "flexing" is very prevalent in the charts. And so Lee Soo-Man went with it. And yes, they are indeed designed for dancing, given the fact that the group is full of some of the best dancers SM has to offer, with only one "main vocal", instead of the usual several vocals/some dancers. Now all that doesn't mean that SuperM can't show another side as well and hopefully they'll do, but this debut was 110% going for all the stereotypes they could get, to start with a bang.
@RinUesu15 жыл бұрын
@@faithcarponelli I said superm wasn't designed JUST for dancing. Yes, I know they have go dancers that's not what I'm getting at. People can like the dancing, but in that way that appeal won't last long. As for the stereotypes they have to get over the lyrics let alone the title. Not saying that they can't but it's gonna be hard on them. As well as having concerts already. The only people who are gonna go are the already fans of the members, because America, non fans weren't looking out for superm. Technically they are a new group in the eyes of America and them having a concert right after their first mini album America is gonna be a little confused.

@@bell-ir7xs Total truth. Even the huge monster success of BTS hasn't really hit mainstream radio - you don't often hear BTS songs - the reality is songs not in English just don't get played on American mainstream media. Even when the so-called Latin wave of the 90s hit, the only reason those artists got radio play is because they released English language songs - Shakira and Selena did the same thing. I enjoy Jopping. It's a fun banger, but "I Can't Stand the Rain" should've been the lead single for SuperM's debut. It's WAY more interesting and the drum beat just pulls you right into it. I do think SuperM will be successful, in the fact that they'll get attention with enough show appearances and their concerts will probably sell well. But yeah, if Bangtan is the litmus (which they SHOULD NOT BE - that's like making the Beatles back in the 60s the litmus for pop groups), they likely won't reach that, at least not with the way they're being presented now. That all being said, I enjoyed the heck out of their EP and have had some of those songs on repeat. They're just going to need to stand out more if American mainstream markets are to take notice.

You know something, there was a time when people used to said that kpop groups wouldn't be able to break into the american market and, guess what, BTS did. So for me is very annoying when people said that SuperM or any other kpop group for that matter can't reach the levels of succes in the american market like BTS. That's just disrespectful and also is underappreciated their hard work. Is like we are not even given them the oportunity to try it. I'm not an Army, but i respect and value BTS succes, so i think people who isn't eather a Exo-l, Shawol or a NCTzen can do same for SuperM. Like Chen said "there is NOT competition in music".

I think the reason why ppl say superM wont succeed is bc ppl/fans (some) just dont like the idea of making this kind of grp, taking the most popular member of big grps to make one grp, while the respective grp has to delay the cb though the grp still in high demand and doing great. Like of course superm have big potential to break into american market, but ppl are in denial bc they just dont like those idea. ppl said that bts would fail back then is also bc of denial. So, we'll see, if they success, they will success anyway no matter what ppl say.

@@van182 Just because SuperM said they want to raise up the bar for Kpop means they are saying the bar is low. In fact, they know how high the bar is and they want to surpass it and, there is nothing wrong with that. And remember, before BTS there were BIGBANG, Super Junior, TVXQ, SHINee, 2PM, Infinite, Teen Top, U-KISS, F.T. The fact that the listeners' opinions are so divided on the debut announcement and the song itself (even within the sm fans whom superm are targeting at) is already a straight up slap on their unrealistic expectations. You hv to be at bts level and hv that reputation to live out the bold statement of "avengers of kpop". You hv to earn it first to make people comfortable in looking up to you that way, not just suddenly pops up and branding yourself in such a statement. SM doing it is like a random stranger telling you how gd or how smart they are in order to gain your attention and affection but that's not gonna work. It's just being annoying. Also, I'm not sure if they'd know that this move is gonna irritate a lot of fans, especially the armies(which make up a great share of the US kpop consumers lol). They should try to lure them in not shut them out, although it might not be easy. I really hope they didn't raise our expectations so high just to let us down, it's damaging to the superm members. TBH, its annoying that Super M keeps getting compared to BTS. BTS didn't immediately become successful in the US. They started becoming really big around 2017...like 4 years into their career. Super M, although they are successful in their respected groups, shouldn't be expected to INSTANTLY become as widely known as BTS. Give them time to come out with more albums and gain a bigger fandom. To me, although I ADORE BTS, i feel like their 'success' is mostly reflected on the fact that they are 'mainstream'. So most ppl who starts getting into kpop want to jump on that bandwagon. Because honestly, if it was because of how talented they are, they would have become HUGE earlier on. They've had better albums and songs in the past. I'm not saying their current music is bad AT ALL, but i do think their older stuff just slapped you in the face with greatness.

Yes, it did take time for BTS to get popular. I only knew about them and KPOP after I saw them on the AMAs. But to me I like all their music past and present. As they mature as a group and try different genres I still like the music a lot. But I love BTS not just for their music and dance but for their personalities, the way they treat the ARMY, the UN speech, and the fact that each member is unique and to me the total package. I think it will be hard for any other KPOP group to have that kind of success and following with just their music and performances alone. But I wish them luck and I hope they have success. It’s amazing that Someone my age (I have a 23 year old daughter) living in California can be such a big fan of KPOP now. But if it wasn’t for BTS I would not know about KPOP. I’m going to hope that all KPOP groups do well in America.

They clearly already had their current fandoms, but after their debut, the next step is to GAIN more fans. I feel like they've done really well so far. The funny thing is that Anonymous American Music expert is one side of the coin as far as music industry analysts over here go. Half of the industry analysts I've discussed things with (I'm a music business marketer) believe this debut is really forward-thinking and could potentially be very profitable and begin new trends in terms of the mass marketing partnership between SM & Capitol Records. And others have taken a similarly pessimistic view like the music expert featured here because it's not something that is very radio "friendly", but that may also be a positive since they want to distinguish themselves from typical kpop & American acts. We will just have to wait and see how everything pans out in the next few months because success doesn't happen overnight here. (i.e., Lizzo's 'Truth Hurts' hit #1 almost two years after its initial release) Honestly, the American music scene is currently in a weird slump, so maybe this debut can shake things up or not even make a dent. Only time will tell.
@shawolcherry5 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Your comment will probably remain under appreciated because too many people who have no clue about exactly how the American Music industry works are commenting and/or comparing things to BTS and assuming what the "End Game" is for SuperM. Not even BTS was an overnight success here in the States so how can anyone say SuperM is already a failure or will not succeed? And why are so many so stuck on the word "Jopping"? (which is in the Urban Dictionary by the way) I hope the same people are reacting the same way about if floss or flossing is mentioned in a song. The lyrics are braggy like a lot of hip hop songs played on the radio, so while the song is definitely not my favorite on the mini album I understand why it was chosen as the title song. The other songs were either not flexin' enough or did not feature vocals from the whole group (i.e. Super Car). The marketing strategy and what's to come with SuperM won't be like BTS because THEY ARE NOT BTS AND AIN'T TRYING TO BE! The media reports before the debut leaked enough information for the public to understand what's really happening and it goes beyond the music industry. Sounded almost like a DreamCatcher x King's Raid kind of deal is happening but with Marvel/Disney. I mean do people seriously think SuperM can say the word "Avengers" and sample the Avengers theme song as part of their marketing and Disney will not come after them to sue or give a cease and desist order? Think about it! IF everything works out as planned they will indeed change the future of K-pop but just not in the way it seems a lot are thinking and pre-judging by. And I'm all in for the ride!

Maybe it's my personal taste, because I was never a fan of the 2000s boy bands to begin with, but I honestly don't see it catching on over here. If their fans love it, that's great! Y'all enjoy whatever you want, no hate. But I'll be super surprised if it even slightly gains traction in the mainstream over here. Now KARD I could see going someplace. The SuperM EP has multiple album versions + merch bundles + concert ticket bundles for their ARENA tour (all of that counts to Billboard200 album chart), if it were any western act and a label like Capitol, they would be expecting a top 5 debut on BB200 from the concert ticket bundle ALONE - top 10 would be worse than expected - and if that EP debuts worse than no.10.... it's gonna be difficult not to call that a flop given the sheer amount of money invested. bell Idk if anyone can predict the future there are many possibilities. How can you judge something that’s happening for the first time. There have been many artists that have been told they wouldn’t make it and have. Also why do they have so many views already, and who is this expert??.. Even David said he still thinks they will succeed. They’re haters if their putting them down rather than supporting them, and if you’re embarrassed by the music you listen to then why do you listen to k-pop.Also how is it not a good idea people will like the members and check out their individual groups as well. All they need is a platform that people outside of kpop fans will know about. Americans only don’t like it because they know nothing about it they shouldn’t have to change who they are to fit in anyways people are literally talking shit because of one word. I mean this is capital records idea. Plus this has queen stadium vibes if you think about the catchiness of the chorus. If Idol can be a hit anything can anyways. Since a lot of haters start with BTS.

@@shhhh5895 1. I have a right to an opinion, so i'll judge whatever I want to lol, wether its good or bad 2. this isnt just a rookie group, this is a "super group" filled with members that have already "made it" in their own respective groups. im talking about super m, together, that ppl were skeptical about them. 3. of course you bring up views. this is AMERICA, were talent, music, & art >>> views. 4. i'm not putting them down? all I said was people who don't believe they will make it aren't haters, they're stating an opinion. if people ARE putting them down, then that IS hate. pls learn the difference. 5. did you even read my comment? I said "Some like you loved it, some HATED it, and some were embarrassed of it (knets supposedly)". Where in that sentence does it say that I was embarrassed?? hello? SOME. and mostly from KNETS. PLS read. 6. "Americans only don’t like it because.." well sorry to break it to you, but if americans dont like it then thats a big problem. they're debuting in america and are appealing to americans. if the target audience doesnt like it, then don't you think thats kinda bad? 7. idek why BTS was being brought up but go off I guess lmao
@shhhh58955 жыл бұрын
bell First BTS was brought up in this video if you watched it. Second when you’re blatantly saying their not going to make it in America that is putting them down. When I said Americans don’t like it I meant Kpop in general and it’s mostly because of the language. I have asked many people that don’t know about kpop and that’s their main complaint when they listen to it. Anyways I’m American I like it so anyone else here can too. Also Americans aren’t so sensitive over one word if the whole song is catchy. I know your trying to sound cool or something by having an attitude, but I can read just fine. So that’s the end for my part I’m not trying to waste my time on this when we just disagree on everything.

@@shhhh5895 I- ...are you reading right? I NEVER said they wouldn't make it. I said that it wouldn't go as SM wanted (people 100% falling in love with super m, crazy album sales, crazy numbers, etc.) not that they couldn't make it at ALL. I also said that people who "don't believe that they'll make it aren't haters, they're just stating an opinion" because a lot of us fans were confused and skeptical from the start. Where did I "blantantly" say they werent going to make it? Or did you jump to conclusions that I hate them because I'm not bowing and kissing their ass? You asking "many people" is NOT the opinion of the general American population but ok. The whole point I have been trying to make isn't just over the word "jopping". Its the group as a whole. Since you want to bring up BTS even though they didnt add to your point, I'll bring them up to add them to mine. BTS got popular in the west due to a combination of timing, music, and their FANS. Super M's fanbase is all over the place atm. Without fans constantly giving their support, how are american locals gonna start looking into them? Sure super m is getting some TV appearances but everyone knows social media is king. And when you look up super m on social media its a hot mess. We as kpop fans are used to sounds like this (kinda) but to the average American that might not be the case. You & your circle of friends saying the song is catchy doesnt prove anything, its the numbers and the sales. and where are those?

To start, let me just say I love seeing Kai and Taemin together in the group!!! I’m an ARMY who has always liked and respected NCT, EXO, and loved SHINee w/ Taemin as my bias, but honestly the Super M fans are gonna have to put in some work if they want to help SM Entertainment make a mark in the US market. It’s been SIX days and they still have not approached the 30 million mark. I’ll be forever cheering Super M and their fandom on from the sidelines. This video is currently at 21 million. I want good results for the members, but this won’t get them nor SM the numbers they were looking for. SM admitted they put this super group together in hopes of taking America by storm after seeing the reception of BTS here. They think because they can speak some English as a group that this will get them BTS numbers and TV show invites. Doing things this lazy way comes off as SM Entertainment thinking Americans are stupid and desperate for Kpop and any old thing will do never mind the fact that US fans were instrumental in bringing Kpop into the light since generation 1 w/ BoA and Rain. English is not a requirement for US fans. Never has been. Not for an American kpop fan, especially not for fandoms as dedicated as us ARMYs. BUT, we do like for the English that gets used to make sense and be accurate. This song needs a lot of help; better writers, better producers, better PR, and better collaboration. The mere idea of mashing up words to get “jopping” was childish and much like "fetch" it will NEVER be a thing! ;) The members of Super M are, of course, superb! Don’t, for a minute, think I am dissing THEM. But, honestly, this song is just okay. Each group in their own respective corners had better songs than this one and I am surprised SM Entertainment thought, “Yes! This is the one! We will introduce the group with THIS!!!!” The members deserve better and more in-depth attention paid to their content and presentation. There is a valid reason they have not been able to even TOUCH the 30 million views mark after SIX DAYS and are still hovering at 22 million!!! Doing business this way will NOT get them the hype they seek and that is disappointing for the guys. I love Taemin and want good things for him and Kai as well. Heck, all the guys deserve good things and just about every artist deserves better than SM. ;) It also does NOT help that there are haters in the comments of the video saying that us ARMYs are "not welcome" and that we somehow have no right to support other Kpop artists. Yup. SM has somehow brought forth those good ol' salty haters which is just going to hurt the group by keeping other fans away. Just sayin'.

It is not US army toting bts its their social media following toting them. They have a big internet following, that is why their views are so many...dont get it wrong, they arent as big here as people are thinking they are...barely anyone knows who they are...
@ThatBlackPiano5 жыл бұрын
Tchelle McKay Nice try, but no one said US ARMY was “toting” BTS; whatever that means. ARMY is massive and we do pride ourselves on our collective internet outreach. Thanks for noticing. Internet outreach on its own, however, does not get BTS the clout they have in America. Not sure if you’re American or where in America you are from, but more than enough Americans do know who BTS is on a national scale. If your region does not know that simply means they are lacking in ARMY representation and do not have the numbers to get enough radio play demands. You do not make it onto the programs BTS has made it to by being ‘barely known’. 😉BTS would not break US sales records and charting records that they’ve broken if ‘barely’ any American knew of them.

“Anonymous American music journalist”? Could’ve just been a friend lol. Jk, I understand her not wanting to reveal her identity...kpop stans be cray and might blow up her social media accounts for what essentially is an articulate insight on the SuperM thing. Also, as an American Kpop fan, this whole SuperM situation is actually pretty great. If this is SM’s answer to BTS’ success in USA, then it’s like if two hot guys were fighting for my attention. A win-win situation lol! I’ll admit I’m a fan of everyone...not just BTS, but EXO, NCT, and Shinee. I even bought tickets to the SuperM tour in NYC. My rationale was basically what SM was banking on...I’ve never had the chance to see EXO or Shinee live, so hell year at $50 a ticket with a free album, I’ll shell out!

I agree. I don't give any real credibility to an Anonymous Music Journalist's forecasts or opinions. I seriously don't understand why so many are looking for any reason they can find to tear this group down. Korean fans are the only fans I have ever seen, who elevate their "idols", to God-Like status, only to murder them later, on social and other media venues. Instead of overthinking this, why can't everybody just enjoy the music? We'll be seeing SuperM in Chicago, and we're excited!

Sadly, I was very disappointed in Jopping. I was really excited for this group cause I love Taemin but.....I listened to the whole album and I only loved the song "No Manner" but the single (Jopping) and the other songs was not that amazing in my opinion. The dancing was still dope though...as expected. I just hoped for so much more when it comes to the music and I hope they get some better songs in the future.
