Chen's marriage not only sets the precedent for EXO - maybe it will make the idea of an idol dating/getting married more acceptable to Korean society on the whole? Not that that could become the norm since sex appeal and romantic imagination is a large part of what the K-pop industry sells.

He literally, in his letter, said that EXO members & company were consulted & the issue was discussed before the letter wss revealed. So where is this lack of consideration they're talking about? If the members & the company were fine with the timing then everyone else needs to STFU themselves. I honestly think this is mainly a K-EXO-L issue. I truly hope he doesn't let the negativity win because EXO would be at a horrible disadvantage without him. This is coming from someone who is not an EXO fan.

these so called "fans" that are calling him out for not thinking about his members when publicing these news obviously did not read his letter and neither have they any idea of what brotherhood really means! This person gave a good explanation: Chelle_newyork 5 hours ago I'm not an Exo-l but I think because Taeyang was dating publicly for 3 years, everyone knew about it and "assumed" they would get married someday which is exactly what happened. Even so, it's a big deal in Korea if they happened to be pregnant first before marriage, it's a cultural thing.. it happens but not something you can openly or proudly talk about. Chen's situation is a bit different because he was hiding the fact that he was dating and all of a sudden the fans get news of him dating, marrying, and even a baby on the way.. a 3 combo hit lol. So I heard they were upset about the fact that he hid this from the fans and he only confessed after the baby is almost due. Also they were upset that he hid this fact during his solo promotion, had everyone spend all that money to support him and then dropped the news..so they're saying he was manipulating his fans. They also didn't like the fact that he dropped the news in between the member's bdays and the day before one of their member's press conference about some other gig, they find the timing to be selfish. And lastly, they think Exo's image will be tarnished as an "old daddy group". So in Korea, being an idol means being someone you can be looked up upon and everything above + premarriage baby is too shocking for the fans since they "think" they have this family-like relationship but all this news suddenly gives them a reality check and they feel dumb for spending so much time and money on them. I don't really care so much about this issue but I looked into it one day so I've read their side of this issue. As an outsider, my initial thought was "what?!" but quickly turned to congrats.

It’s funny how the Korean fans who have turned their backs on Chen don’t understand that they’re the people they’re talking about. These ‘fans’ are the reason why those things are trending and why the members are negatively affected by the news. It’s because of them. I don’t understand why they don’t see it. They keep acting like it’s because they’re mad he ruined the groups image and they want to protect the group but the reason the groups image is being ‘destroyed’ is *because* of the mad ‘fans’ themselves. If these ‘fans’ didn’t have such a negative and ugly reaction (which they fake as concern) then no one would want to pull their contracts or deals from the group. There is no reason to. So it isn’t Chen’s fault it’s theirs. If any brands pull from the group it’s because of the ‘fans’ and their toxic and hurtful reaction. Once again. If there wasn’t such a negative reaction by salty and controlling fans then companies and brands wouldn’t pull away from the group.

BTS may not all have the same political views, they also just may not want to say anything more specific about their beliefs. Being a positive influence through encouragement works a lot better than attempting to tell others how they should live, what is right and wrong. Our words can be twisted by the masses so easily. We've become so concerned with "speaking our truth" that we've forgotten that we can still live that truth without telling everybody about it. I personally prefer not knowing specifically what BTS' political standings are. They aren't running for office so they don't need to broadcast them, they may not be useful. Sometimes our "truth" only matters for us, our individual life. We don't have to share every freaking thing.

Also, these ‘fans’ should like the group for their talents and artistry. It’s ok to be attracted to a member and have a little crush but to think that they owe you something back is idiotic and childish. It’s also ok to be shocked by the news and a little sad because that can be a natural reaction for fans but how some of these ‘fans’ handled their feelings shows that they weren’t raised correctly and shows how they see these people as products to only serve them. Like, I’m still going to be shower singing to Shall We? and Beautiful Goodbye by Chen as well as Universe by Exo etc. Etc. Because I actually like their music and don’t pretend to be a fan because I think they should dedicate themselves to me. Like da*mn did he mur*der someone? Did he hurt someone (literally)? Did he do something morally wrong? No. He literally has a fiancée who got pregnant and he wants to marry her. He’s nearly a 30 year old man. He didn’t want to “drop” the news (I don’t know How is it that you know Chen did Anything of this purposely??), an article was made without his consent. Also seven months OLD and seven months PREGNANT is a different thing; and SME denied it. Also Chen didn’t plan to release the news between members birthday or schedules, he had a *plan* (he said he talked to the members and the company) and that article spoiled it. And slow down the group? I think that is subjective. Everyone has their own schedule and for the times they have to be all together, Chen may or may not appear depending on his responsibilities and that is not a bad thing, nor a reason for him to not be in the group. Also his members should know how to deal with media. Look at Heechul, he literally asked everyone to refrain from asking about his relationship. I don’t think exo can’t do the same to an extent.

It's interesting to me that "people who go to k-pop concerts" vs "people of who go to art galleries" are not perceived as being the same... humans are not one dimensional characters that are defined by one sole interest. At least from my personal experience being an ARMY and interacting a great deal with other ARMYs online, I have seen first hand what a worldly view most of them have and how varied interests are. On a daily basis I notice how art in different forms circulates inside the fandom, not just related to BTS. So I would disagree that kpop-listeners and gallery-goers are often not the same individuals, liking a genre of music and appreciating other forms of art is definitely non exclusive :)

@🤍 yeah well end of the day its not your choice to make, whos to say he can't balance both? His members obviously support him so who is anyone to say that hes hurting the other members careers or halting them in any way? from an outside perspective, to me, it looks like the people who want Chen out of the group are trying to cover up the fact that theyre upset that their weird fantasy of a bunch of hot single men who only live to sing love songs to y/n has been broken by the fact that Chen is a grown ass man who deserves the right to have a family and still pursue his career.
@kima_955 жыл бұрын
@🤍 Well, I see what you're saying and you make logical points, but I just want to say something. For one, EXO is well past their peak/stablity eras. That's not to insult them or say they lack potential even now, however, realistically I would say they are quite established and at a point in their career where they can be comfortable. I say this because of how established they are in South Korea, which is where SM planned to profit from with EXO specifically. Looking at their track record, they've already done the standard for a successful group and more for a 3-5 year senior group. Of course they could always do more, say shoot forvthe stars and try to win different western award shows like Big Bang or BTS, but overseas success was never the goal. SM is perfectly fine with them just having influence in Korea, otherwise they would be doing more for them as far as coverage and promotion go. I mean, sure, they've gone to things like KCON, have overseas tours like every other group, and performed at the Olympics, but that doesn't change the fact that they are marketed to Korea, for Korea. Have been since debut. And so, as I said with them already reaching the standard and beyond for Korea based acts, they can afford to take that time off and continue on being a group focused on solo activities until otherwise. Similarly to most 2nd gen groups before them. Although, knowing how SM exploits their popularity when needed and how much the boys enjoy coming back, I imagine they would have more comebacks than most of these groups. Probably more like Super Junior, forming subunits if they want to do idol/group work and whole group comebacks when possible. It wouldn't be that hard, especially considering that this normally happens anyway, evidence being the time between their comebacks since the beginning. Even more so nowadays with SM debuting overseas based groups and having to juggle them while figuring out older lesser tended to groups. But that's just been my observations as a longtime EXO-L. Personally I don't see the need for him to leave. I would rather he stayed and they tried to work it like UKISS and Eli, I'm thinking solo with no stage time but more TV appearances or even just continuing on with his OST/collabs. But maybe that's just me. 🤔

omg the fact that chen is going to be a father chocked me but in a good way! he is at the age after all and i'm glad he find is significant other😬! God only knows how being an idol deprives you long enought of developping and nourrishing an healty relationship ! Wish you joy!! CHENCHEN!!

BTS have enough pressure on them as it is. Them involving themselves in political issues more directly will just pile on too much pressure, especially now when they have so many eyes on them to the point where political leaders have even asked for them to come to their respective countries... They've been talking about how much of a burden their position can be for quite a while now... It's too much to ask of a group of guys in their 20s. Being a positive influence and empowering individuals IS their way of countering the social and political negativity that we see everyday. Instead of criticising, they're giving people strength to fight it on their own. They're doing way more than enough. Yes they have a HUGE platform that can be put to so many good uses... but we also have to remember that these are just normal young people who also want to have a life outside their work. Weren't the lyrics of Shadow clear enough? Let's give them a bit of a break please.
@Starcore6005 жыл бұрын
Yeah, politics can be a horrible minefield. We just need to look at current political leaders and see them fail over and over again to navigate this minefield. And they've been trained for it, with years of experience in previous positions. I really can't blame BTS for treading carefully. Plus, I think that what BTS are doing is just as valuable.They're giving people strength and educating the next generation.

And they are such a huge commodity for South Korea and world representatives for the country, making any kind of overtly political statement could get them in trouble. The blue house has them on speed dial.

I want to just take a moment to appreciate BTS. They are already the biggest band with the biggest fandom. There was absolutely no need to do this thing, but still they invested money, energy and time into this project. This just shows that BTS are true "*Artists*" , who appreciate *ART*

I think that BTS and BigHit are actually quite brilliant in their approach to changing the world. Obviously politics has a large place in world order, but BTS chooses to approach people as individuals or small groups of people and empower them to make and become the changes that they want to see in the world. I think BTS's power is in how they inspire the individual to become bigger than themself, and how inclusive they are in everyone. Fans who are contemporary artists may have never expected to be incorporated into the BigHit mix and relate in the way that Connect will allow. They also make people realize that they can follow any dream and use it to inspire and influence others. As long as I've been an ARMY, I'm still absolutely amazed daily at their reach to people personally and the waves that they make in lives.

RM is super into art, so I can see this being his idea, to connect artists together world-wide. ETA: Please read shining summer's comment 👇 for more info 😊 Also, with BTS using books like "Demian" and "Map of the Soul" to influence their music, they've introduced philosophy and psychology to millions of ARMYs. As in, people are reading those books. So encouraging fans to explore modern art sounds right up their alley. Kind of a "Feed Your Soul" campaign. Also, I don't know if you know this, but "Old Boy" is highly recommended by US critics. I've seen it on so many lists, and it's referred to a lot, both its themes and in comparison to other movies. Just wanted you to know, it's very much on the American radar. We stan good movies. :)

In my experience, the intersection between BTS' audience and art lovers is much bigger than what most would assume, mainly because BTS' love for the arts very much translates to their work. A personal example would be my grandma, who has been a museum curator for over 40 years and has a lot of respect for BTS.

Actually the reason why int fans are very supportive bcs as you know being a father and having a baby is a blessing not a crime. Whats the matter for being in a group, married and also having a baby? Even a bigger group such as One Direction, 2 out 4 member are having a child and they still have so many fans and even waiting for their comeback every year. Just respect his decision and let him being a responsible person. Because before he is an idol, he is a human too like us, he deserve to be happy the way he wants.

Those EXO L that are taking Chen news badly , pretend that they care about their Idols but at the end of the day they only care about themselves. Why would you deny a person a life just because you're part of their fandom?! Those idols live crazy lifes, and they need some kind of normality in some part of their life in order to stay sane. Those fan would be the first one to give out about the management company for not taking care of their idols. Let them live their private life in Peace. He obviously talked it out with his members and company. they all know the consequences.

- EXO Chen - his being a part of EXO is up to the members of EXO and their label, the fans have no right to make demands or marketing conclusions - the negative reaction of fans is what creates negative buzz, and loses their contracts - if the fans were nothing but supportive, then there'd be very little difference in their public perception, and they'd remain as marketable as they ever were - it's the fans that make their brand, it's the fans that destroy their brand - non-fans aren't the ones buying the brand in the first place, so their perception makes no difference either way

I think Chen handled this like a man. The woman that will be his wife, is long time girlfriend, not a one night stand. You can tell he loves her very much and will make a great father. Everybody on earth can slip up and it’s their business to give news when they wanted to. You know their are things they could have done, but they want the baby. Be happy for them and let the innocent baby come into the world surrounded by love. Chen does the job he is paid to do, very well, the rest is nobodies business. No telling how many this has happen to, and they made different choice. Wouldn’t want to be them. Much happiness to Chen, wife and baby. Peace and love.
