To make a more waterproof roof with the palm leaves, dude should have weaved from the inside-out. 1. Take one palm leaf and cut off heavy end, at least 5 fonds in from the last fond. 2. Split palm leaf, along the spine, from end to end, start on heavy side. You will now have a left-sided half and right-sided half. 3. (Sit comfortably)Take one of the halves and lay it on your lap with the pointy ends facing away and the back-of-the-leaf side up. 4. Always starting on the heavy end, take the first 3 fonds and start weaving. *How to weave - Take fond 3 and push it backwards OVER fond 2 then UNDER fond 1. If done correctly, 3 will hold down 2, with 1 holding down 3. Lift fond 2 up, skip 4, and take fond 5 and push it backwards over 4 and 1 then return 2 to its original position. Now lift fonds 1 and 4, skip 6 and push back 7, return 1 and 4 to original position and repeat this over and under pattern until all fonds are used.

Here is my thing. Why build a fire out in the open where the wind off the surf can hit the tinderball. IMO i would of went in the woods where wind would not be blowing as hard and would of moved the fire into the woods where there would be less rain. There is a few good things bout the rain. 1 the obvious hydration. 2 the rain hitting a fire becomes a smoldering fire and then it would smoke like crazy making a signal sign
