First story, Shrek *does* have a choice in this; divorce. Is it extreme? Yes. But what Gruntilda did is equally extreme. All of what she did ending with the cops being called on her? Over a *mini* . That she *still* stole in the end. What happens if it's something more? Not to mention she's isolating him with her behavior. Is she really worth having her in his life?
@TigerW0lf Жыл бұрын
Shrek could have just let her stay and let her try to stop the police so they could arrest her. I mean, she stole the mini in the end, so she could be arrested for theft, and if she tries the "it's mine" defense or "I don't have it," cuff her.

Man, I wish my group could've handled our Bard-like player like the DM in that story did. We had a gal and her hubby join our long term group, and she chose Artificer geared towards ranged attacks. She never paid attention, would game during session, never played the mission, and complained about having ranged spells. That she chose. She complained that if she was high she'd have trouble remembering or paying attention, so we made a table wide sobriety rule to help her. She constantly broke it by having her camera "be broken". It came down to half our table wanting to kick her, the other half thinking we should continue to give her chances, and ultimately we ended up kicking both her and hubby because they owned up to breaking the sobriety rule on camera. I wish we could've just ejected her straight up, because her husband was actually fun to play with.

As someone who frequently is in games with partners being on the opposite side of the DM screen, it can work easily and does a lot. It's just that... the times when it doesn't, it really doesn't. And there are ways you could balance with a dragon. Maybe it was a runt and would never get big enough to be a full dragon in terms of power. If you're willing, compromises to make everyone happy are almost always possible. That girlfriend is just toxic. In general, that's problematic behind the game and that favoritism has little to do with love and more to do with fear.

Shrek didn't really have a choice but to agree to the (possible grand larceny) property theft Gruntilda insisted on committing because they're married? Regular married people tell their partner to stop when they cross a major line, and then question the potential longevity of the relationship. Marriage doesn't take your individuality and morals away. I'm angry that the DM was being excused at ALL. He's just as guilty. "I'm sorry man, I don't want my wife to be mad at me. You understand, right?" No, sorry man, you're a thief too. Also, that story had nothing to do with one of them being a DM, it purely had to do with games being played in someone else's house and deciding to use the collection for play. The moral to the story is: keep your expensive collection(s) out of reach in your own home...don't trust others to take care of it for you or even take care when using it. They won't value it as highly as you do.

My old ttrpg group was basically all couples except for one guy. And we all rotated GMs, so spouse would be the gm while the other was a player. It worked for us bc we managed to be mature about it all and it wasn't toxic (though one couple wound up divorcing due to out of game issues). Paraphrasing: "Couples is ALWAYS s problem if dm/player", and "MY class was so unique and rare that every one would instantly know it was my won glorious self writing this.", "NEVER store your items at a friend with an evil succubus icky girl friend!" Talk about know-it-all, he has one bad anecdotal event and is hellbent that is how it always must be. OP comes off very immature where everything is ALWAYS and EVERYTIME. Yes he was immensely unlucky that one players was a nutcase but that doesn't make ALL friends EVERYWHERE evil thieves. Of course Gruntilda is fully in the wrong but she isn't every dm/player couple. The problem with Grunhilda was that she's most likely afflicted with Narcissistic personality disorder. That her husband was the DM (in a seat of power for her to use) didn't cause it but enabled her behavour. Of course the games being at their home is yet another position of power and both enabled and enboldened her attempt at property grabbing. Likely this was about the money she could get from selling the stuff and also just the (sickeningly) exhilarating feeling of power they get from taking what someone else owns and loves. My advice is to spot NPD tendencies early in a gaming group (not just TTRPGs) and simply leave that group and not look back. Same with a workplace really. If you really, really have to stay then be prepared for the fight and make sure that the afflicted and any dependents do not get seats of power as this is the only real way to keep them behaving marginally acceptable.

Shrek was equally a horrible person because he lacked the testicular fortitude to stand up to his wife. I'd never let my SO get away with such behavior and vice versa. You say, "Um, honey. We'll find you a baby black dragon, but this stuff doesn't belong to us." (You can leave out the carrot of another baby dragon if you want. Why enable her?) Couples play RPGs together all the time. Is there favoritism? Sometimes. I've been very lucky not to experience that in any significant way. (There was that one DM who held mini-sessions for just his wife and roomie so they always were a level or two above us with more magic. That was annoying. But no coddling them in-game.) ETA: I really hate that bard stereotype. Wonder if Bard's husband explained bards to her that way? Anyway, I'd call her an annoying player, not a problem one. Her behavior was icky, but I have seen way worse & it sounds like she tried to tone it down after the DM spoke to her. My problem? The husband? Were they in the same house? Why didn't he take the time (hopefully out of game) to teach her how to mute her mic and/or com eover and mute the damn thing? And why was she the only one handling the kids? At least this is what it sound like. IOW, both the partners in these stories got a pass when they're partially responsible. The idea that they didn't get involved because they didn't want to deal with problem child? That there? That's the problem!

While I do understand the warning in the first story, I would also like to point out that what Gruntilda did was extreme and that there may be situations in which it's fine to leave your stuff at another player's house, if you feel like you can trust them. We've been meeting at the same house to play DnD for years and each one of the group has left their DnD stuff at his house and never ran into an issue with it. Both he and his wife have always been respectful of our things and whenever we meet up to play, our stuff is always exactly where we left it. The one time he moved it, he sent us a text about how he was doing spring cleaning in his house and needed to move our stuff so he could clean his cupboard. I'm just saying, you should indeed be careful of where you leave your personal property, but it's not a rule set in stone. Sometimes, there are people who are perfectly trustworthy who won't mess with them. You just have to establish that level of trust first, which takes a few months/years, depending on how often you meet up and how much you interact with them. It's only extreme people like Gruntilda that cause issues like these. Always be on the lookout for red flags. If they start showing ANY signs that they're treating your stuff like it's theirs, act immediately and move everything out of there ASAP! Use your own good judgment, but don't blindly assume that no one else can be trusted with your things. There are good and decent people out there too.

First one: the story is made up. The police do not settle property disputes. That is what courts are for. One could try to raise criminal charges for theft of property, but dispute of property is a civil matter. The owners of the apartment can say there was an understanding that op was giving it to them; a cop cannot give summery judgement, force the transfer of property, or even search the apartment for the property without a court order. They sometimes stand by to supervise the transfer of property if there is a fear of violence or escalation; ie, a cop might be there if you clear out your stuff from your ex-partner's place because you are afraid they are going to assault you, but they do not weigh in on who should get what.

@@robinmohamedally7587 the whole story is a humble brag about "1,000's of dollars of my mini collection." The police involvement is just to provide drama; the author probably means it as a "and they all stood up and clapped," moment. Issue is laws for property disputes are fairly well known.

With how small minis are they likely can be destroyed or gotten rid of with little to no effort so waiting for any amount of time would just lead to its mysterious disappearance.

@@AtelierGod op said they had several dragons; those are generally 18 cm for an adult with 16 mm scale. They would take up a whole china hutch if they are displaying them, I would think. They also said it they got them through blind boxes, so there are a ton of repeats as op did not have to store them.

Sounds like you're more jealous of this guy. It's a story on the internet who cares if it's fake or not?

Sometimes it feels like the op is just the fun police. Like they take the game too seriously and get easily offended.

I ship the husband from the first story with the bard from the second. We need an NTR fanfic of this (With OP getting their dragon back). 🖕🧹
