So a grapple IS in fact considered part of your Extra Attack, so is shoving somebody 5 ft. away or tripping somebody to knock them prone. I say this not because I wanna be a stickler about rules, but because I think Borky needs to be doing more grappling considering it's literally part of his personality. We need more suplex in this campaign!

More than that a grapple can be used in place of an attack anytime one can be declared. It's a different attack. That's all

@@Ash2Flame116 Unfortunately that's not quite true. You can't grapple as an opportunity attack because it's not considered part of the attack action. The book specifies that these actions are to be done as a replacement for a regular attack using the "Attack Action". This means that any attack that isn't using the "Attack Action" such as opportunity attacks, such as a War Domain Cleric's bonus action attack, etc. None of them can be a grapple unfortunately. (reference pg. 195 PHB, first paragraph of Grappling)

He has an AC of 10 +DEX +CON, and his initiative is plus 1,which relies on DEX, he is current AC is 14, which makes his CON score plus 3, originally his AC was 17, which means monty took about 3 modifiers off of him at least, damn shame

Its stated under Sneak Attack that you cannot deal it if your attacks have disadvantage on a target: "You don't need advantage on the attack roll if another enemy of the target is within 5 feet of it, that enemy isn't incapacitated, and you don't have disadvantage on the attack roll."

Not gonna lie, after last week I was expecting to see our first character death this episode. Not a very LONG death, given the resources available to the Unexpectables, but I fully expected someone to go down. But man, that was a hell of an encounter.

Considering the party averages out at level 7 and there were at least two Vampire Spellcasters along with the other vampires, this should have been a deadly encounter for the party even houseruling out the legendary resistances VampCasters get (being CR 15 monsters). Unless DnDBeyond is really missing something from Curse of Strahd, there are no caster variants of spawn, especially none that are *9th level casters* that can cast 4th and 5th level spells like Greater Invisibility and Dominate Person, so yeah no...no 1st level character playing that module could actually ever hope to take one of them, much less multiple. Edit: I know they don't use XP for levels but, for context, one CR 15 enemy is worth 13,000 XP. That's enough to ding level 8 from 7 and still have 2000 XP left over. And they fought at least two of them, since the girl went for Dominate and the one grapply asshole focused on Greater Invisibility which is why he never decloaked despite attacking and being hit.

@@megasuperiordude Superiordude Look up "vampire spawn" and "vampire spellcaster" for 5e. Spawn are literally just weaker versions of the base vampire and don't have any special abilities like charming enemies that real vampires do; they are basically just physically enhanced thralls that have vampire weaknesses and lesser regeneration (real vamps naturally regen 20 hp each turn unless damaged by daylight, running water, or holy water, while spawn only get 10 hp). The enemies here were casting at the equivalent of 9th level spellcasters and had an AC of 16 which is also higher than spawn (they have 15 AC). There were at least two vampires that encounter that were definitely not spawn. They didn't use the legendary resistances that vampire spellcasters (and base vampires even) get, but then again if they were casting stuff like Greater Invisibility, Dominate Person, Blight, and Animate Dead (which are listed right on the Vampire Spellcaster spell list btw) they also would've had 3 spell slots of 1st to 4th level they could've been using along with cantrips. If she homebrewed them as casting variants of spawn and took away some of the traits of true vampires, that's fine, but there is no official vampire spawn that matches the description of some of the ones we saw in this fight. And even if you nerfed certain abilities, you're still talking at least CR10 creature for the physical abilities and toughness they had along with 9th level spellcasting. And considering there were two of them (at least, and the Goliath vampire might have even been using the vampire warrior statblock, which is armored, has more HP, and is also CR15) and the rest of the party is only level 7, this could easily have turned very badly. If the minor chord curse hadn't come in (or if the invisible vamp had just tried to Dominate as well) you're talking potentially multiple party members turning immediately *and* still having the vampires to fight *and* the possibility of Borky or Task going antiparty or just being decommissioned due to their lycanthropy. If Monty wanted to/played it out better, she probably could have straight up killed everyone.

Charm does not require concentration and it can only be resisted when the target is attacked by the Vampire or the Vampire's companions, NOT the target's companions, much like Charm Person/Monster. Additionally since it does not require concentration and since there is no daily limit, not to mention no temporary immunity granted from successful saves, a Vampire can essentially do this once every round until the party becomes their willing food. This is why Vamps are scary as fuck, because unless you are immune to mind control, or you can kill it before it enslaves your party, your defeat is assured. It also doesn't mention anything about being aware of the Charm after it ends like most mind control effects, so it's entirely possible for the Vamp to turn a teammate into a double agent without any risk of being discovered by non-magical means. So you could be playing with a Charmed person and not even notice it until it's too late. So apparently instead of tossing a PHB Vampire at them, she used Dominate Person instead, which is decidedly less scary.

The one problem I have with the whole orb of Nox thing, is the fact that it would actually be a bad idea for the vampires to use it, it would actually set off a chain reaction of catastrophic proportions for Tracadia, if the world has the same living conditions as earth, first the plants of the land, both forest and crop plants, would be denied sunlight, their main source nourishment, then the temperature would drop below freezing, killing plants and even quicker, Along with killing helpful insects, that would then lead to a famine among both forest animals, domestic animals and the people of Tracadia, which very likely would lead to a mass exodus, or death for for weak individuals and more feral races such as the orcs, with the inhabitants of the cities and towns burning down their homes and businesses, maybe even forests, so as not to leave anything for their enemies, leaving the werewolves and vampires without a foodsource or way of mass-reproducing, and with wood becoming more or less impossible to to get due to heavy snowfall and the death of said trees during the sudden frost or likely fires set by the former inhabitants, the vampires are then likely to start feeding on werewolves, maybe causing mutations due to the properties of lycan blood, an likely making those mutants more aggressive and feral, leading to them killing those who haven’t turned yet, some vampires might seek underground to try and feed , but there are many dangerous things in the darkness below, and would likely mean the end for the Tracadian vampires, leaving the land a wasteland until for generations to come and it’ll be an uphill battle to try and revive it again. I know this is very much me rambling about a hypothetical scenario, but unless the orb of Nox somehow lets heat and sunlight through in a weird way, that would be the end for everything on Tracadia, and even if the vampires tried to move the orb to go to new hunting grounds, there is a very real chance that they could lose it in a storm, with them having to transform into bats to fly, if the scenario above holds. Anyway, I hope anyone who reads this will find it interesting if nothing else :3
