In my experience role-plays with rpg systems either do not work at all or only last very briefly. The only exception I have seen is a 1 v 1 role-play with someone I have role-played with for along time. Unfortunately, things got gradually worse going from bad to me trying to explain why what they were doing wrong getting to the point where they were being verbally menacing which was scaring me and the people in the next room. I eventually had to say we were not going to role-play because he kept making excuses which were basically what my character would do or they did not remember something negative I had brought up. That unfortunately ended roleplaying with someone I had role-played with for thirty years.

I always post this when I run a game. -- Personal sexuality, ideals, beliefs, political affiliations, opinions, etc do not affect who I allow in my games, but if that is all there is to your personality, this might not be the game for you. I simply do not care. I'm looking for people interested in playing the game consistently. I don't care about what should be your private life. This is a game where you play a character. If you have an issue separating your persona from your character persona, do not apply.

Hey, so, I was a moderator for Heroes of Ivalice, that Final Fantasy Tactics forum RPG. I was on it for about 7 years, from the age of 14 onwards, and became staff in the last year and a half; the game is a cherished memory, but oh my god was it a nightmare to run. The mechanics were a snake's orgy of numbers and formulas and equations, the props were fun but several broke mega bad, and the biggest reason for losing players was attrition- we divided the game into 'campaign turns', which were a month of game time, where we advanced time, processed everyone's movement around the big world map and handled kingdom actions, but whereas these turns were supposed to take 2-3 weeks to process, they frequently took 2-6 months. I have a few other horror stories about props in general: * An infamous mission called 'Advent of Virgo', in which they split the party AGAIN, except instead of trying to kill a dragon they were trying to prevent Altima- FFT Lucifer. They failed, and she was both reborn and opened another portal to hell that affected the entire setting. * A plot critical quest in which a group of powerful heroes chased a major villain through an ancient dungeon. They came to puzzle based around a giant magitek clock they could manipulate. Instead of doing that, they chose to wait for the clock to tick into the right answer, wasting hours of time and giving the villain an incredible window to prepare a brutal ambush * A sequel to the above prop, called Dragon Omelette 2 (they were killing the dragon to steal its eggs for a chef), in which one of the (rejected, I think) applicants was a dragon fetishist who intended to sabotage the party... Which would make TWO such people, because as the party found the dragon, one of the members went berserk, broke concealment, silenced the entire party, who then went on to be destroyed * A prop I was in, for lower level characters, in which the party climbed a mountain said to hold buried treasure. It turned out to be a Zodiac Stone, a legendary relic of which there are only 13, highly powerful, and each connected directly to a fallen Angel that would try to take over the user's mind. The prop immediately dissolved into arguing over who got it, which we resolved by literally drawing lots. The pope shouted at me over that. The winner of the contest would immediately go inactive a month later And those are just props- I have other stories about the backstage stuff, which I might share if anyone's curious. That said, for all the pain, I did dearly love the game and cut a lot of my roleplaying teeth on it.
@rb98769 Жыл бұрын
I loved the idea of that game. It's a real shame I only got to it when it was way past its heyday, and I do remember turns were taking waay longer than they should have, so I ended up not playing much. It's understandable though, the game was designed in a way it definitely required an extreme amount of energy from the staff.

1. Ah forum games. some of the best experiences I've had gaming. Not much to say here, its a 'split the party, I died' scenario. 2. Very little to even critique here. Its 'Gm's wife wanted to private ERP with me once, and I turned it down so nothing happened.' There's so little to it I would barely even call it a story. The entire thing could have just been a comment post saying 'one time my GM's wife hit on me, and she was my ex's sister.' 3. I've heard this story elsewhere, because guys like Doge mine from the same source. It really sounds like Bard wanted this game to be a spicy, homoerotic ERP and was upset when she was denied her fetish of being a gay man.

This video has kinda filtered to the staff of the game in story 1 by now (hi). From what I recall, the GM that handled story 1's game uh. ...Did not have much patience for such frippery. And since this is about as massively multiplayer as TTRPG got, I guess he thought a "fuck around and find out" treatment was a-okay because they could just ... do someone else's plots and get back up to speed or... I dunno. We all were burnt out as fuck, this was going for years and the weight of the game's weird swings from really good to really bad was making it unmanageable. Said swinging is in no small part thanks to some WAY more cursed/nasty/cringe/whatever staff before our time in the start... like oh the stories I could tell of corruption and cheating and sexual harassment... it's a testament to the saner folk running it even at the start that the game was even worth saving from them. Uh. Point is it was the kind of ride you had to be there for - dumb players, cruel GMs, amazing players, genius GMs, wonderful premise, botched executions, shining moments of good execution, dives into weird nepotism garbage, secret plans to fix the game... You really did have to be there. ...Oh. Can someone poke the reddit OP of story 1 at here if he hasn't been already? I think it'd be hilarious.

I (male) have to confess I've had erotic RP moments with players in vampire the masquerade which where fully story driven. One of the hottest scenes was with a girl who was in real life very much a lesbian who did indulge her prostitute/madam character (setite) in a scene with a male NPC with a whole group sitting at the tip of their chairs. The scene was intense erotic, borderline pornographic at points but both she and I and everyone around the table knew exactly what was going between us (nothing except a scene that worked for the character and campaign) I've also had scene's like this in more private settings but always with the clear understanding on both parties that it was nothing except a scene in that characters story. I also once had a scene with a guy , although due to me being straight there was far less inspiration for me to go from. I honestly think in a mature group such things can at times occur if players wish it and dm agrees, but the boundaries should be really defined, its RP not real. Its not unlike a scene in a film, and as long as you angle the camera's away at the right moment I see little issue in it. I think the real problem is when people take it too serious or think there is more there then a scene. Be professional about it and don't let it go to your head. If you can do that, it can add to a story, if you can't do that just don't do such scenes at all.

If I could get a dollar for how many times people have called me/my character a twink and have made very VERY strong advances because of his looks alone - I could have paid off my student loans. For the Warhammer story, being part of an open relationship is perfectly fine...but this shady way of trying to get another person involved is just creepy. If you, for whatever reason can't just ask another person if they'd be interested...or at least what their feelings on such things are then why would you think it would be a smart idea to create a TTRPG campaign to try to get the other person interested? The last story...Bard, not knowing anything about them outside of what was presented in the story, comes off as that straight person that sees homosexual relationships (and apparently other things as well judging from the teaser of another story) as a fetish that exists only for their enjoyment. There has been this case I have witnessed in multiple role-plays which is either an immediate end to the session or eventual end. There is a major boss which can not be beaten by one player. Player 1 wants to fight the boss. Player 2 is that guy who joins multiplayer role-plays, then likes to run off and solo role-play. Do not be this person. If you want to solo, just write your own story in a forum and write something in the description that tells people not to reply. Do not join another role-play which will result in you being in it influencing the plot then decide to solo. Also, take advise like this for yourself and do not try to force it on others. For the love of God, do not be like a large percentage of the people who watch these dnd horror stories. Expecting people to act as though they had the information gained after the fact in the moment. You are a bunch of losers who do not practice what you preach wanting things to be better for you personally.

That bard player sounds like she has main character syndrome. Role playing in a TTRPG is all fine and well, but trying to force something on another player - or even the GM - when they've told you they're not into the idea is selfish. I will play devil's advocate in that the cleric player should've held her ground so that she didn't give the bard player false hope. As pointed out by another commenter, the bard player probably should've been playing a dating sim rather than trying to coerce a fellow player into an in-game romance. It does seem that she is obsessed with role playing same sex romances even to the point of insisting on a grooming relationship between her male teenage character and a man double his age.

on splitting the party: on one of Critcrab's videos he was reading off of someone's altright paladin wanting to take the fight to this 30k orc army when the party was there to train the villagers to fight. ended up in a total party wipe cause the paladin player in character said a paladin never retreats..... eh no, the right, the altright not the left and altleft acts like that, but the altidunnohowtoplay a paladin does, but I digress the dm who was ousted gave the players everychance to turn around, this game for that set of people would have been a good time to split the party and let the paladin get himself taken prisoner at best. Paladins do retreat btw, but they are the last to leave covering the rear. romance characters ingame: yeah the best way to deal with stuff is not to have it at the table. Do not ever ever force something on another player like this. Mature topics and this is one them is best talked about during session 0 or out of gametime with the dm and both players, if even one of them does not wish it, it should not happen. if one of the players still wants to deal with this, a good response is to tell other player character that your character is already spoken for and that you are not attractive enough for me to consider cheating on my beloved.

Consider the demographic, even if it's had more avg people playing in these pandemic times

That last story was the worst. It sounds like every session was about character sexuality and player v player hook ups. What the hell happened to D&D?

Everyone: Talking about the Dm's trashiness in the first story, the cringy-ness of the second, and the forced relationship of the third. Me: Why is the crying wolf girl in the thumbnail making me sad!?😭 (I have full sympathies for the players of course (the non-jerk ones), but that was the first thing my mind thought of)
