Reminds me of when I played in a game with a self proclaimed "skill monkey" rogue who wouldn't do anything unless it's combat, so much so infact, that before we were aware of this, we made a whole plan revolving around his expertise in stealth and stealing, where he'd cut through the back of a cultist leader's tent, steal his plans/tactical documents, and return to us so we could find out the cultist's plans and hit them off at the pass as it were. The whole time we're planning this, the guy's just going "yeah"... "yeah"... "mhm" "yeah", so the DM moves us onto the map of the enemy's encampment, and we're like "okay man you're up!" so he just rolls an attack. We ask what he's doing, and he says "what?! you said it's my turn, I'm attacking" so we had to explain the plan to him a second time, thankfully the DM allowed him to take back shooting a shortbow at a random dude and putting the whole base on alert xD

I have already had a dm that banned a player from using his phone for this exact reason. If they don't want to be there or are bored just tell them they don't need to keep coming back to play...if you would rather be doing something else don't ruin everyone else's experience.

Every time I click to watch one of these, you're almost always playing a game I just picked up recently, makes the videos twice as worth it because I get to see what I'm getting myself into and a story to boot

Wait, Uthgar was clearly trying to Coup De Grace on a sleeping target. Why was it treated as a regular attack?
@elf-lordsfriarofthemeadowl20393 жыл бұрын
It was 5e, where there is not Coup De Grace rule. (Although a smart DM can tell you that attacks with 5ft of an unconscious target are auto-crits)
@chrisrudolf98393 жыл бұрын
Even older more severe coup de grace rules wouldn't let you deal infinite damage. IIRC, in 3.5 it was quadruple the max damage you could deal with your weapon, so trying to oneshot a sleeping boss monster that is essentially built as a Kaiju won't work. One might handwaive that rule when dealing with high level enemies that are still essentially human (Because yes, if you slit the high level barbarians throat in his sleep with your sword, he should totally be dead, no matter whether he has 200 HP), but you wouldn't expect to be able to instantly kill a sleeping Godzilla by sticking a sword into it.

It was a long time ago, but when I noticed that I started to lose interest in the second campaign with a new group, I told the DM a day afterward. He told me it was okay if I left and since then I focused on other things. Maybe someday I‘d love to join in a DnD server again but for now my life is just too busy ever since.

Sounds like a great DM that showed THAT GUY that his actions had consequences. But I would assume that the characters head would be blanc if it got it's mind read, since the character was played like a total idiot.

As funny as I think it is... why is mooning someone and being moderately rude worth charges of treason?
@Lersa252 жыл бұрын
Because it's not someone, it's a queen and holy leader of dwarves :) if some moron can moon her and suffer no punishment, then there's no leader anymore, dwarves are fallen into chaos, all gone. Hey, some IRL kings could be offended if you turned your back to them still wearing pants.

I think this was a case of "everybody's an asshole." I don't think Uthgar was right in behaving with such disinterest in the campaign. However, I have to wonder if that came before or after the detailed incidents that OP laid out early on in the post/video. If he'd been better behaved earlier on, I can understand why what happened to him would have pushed him to start acting out at the table; not to justify it, but it would be an explanation. Here's how I see the situation. It sounds like Uthgar tried to be in-character and stand up for his god and faith when that character started denouncing Tyr. Whether or not his slapping their face was excessive or not is a matter of opinion, but I think his IC anger at his god being disrespected is fair. Then the party all takes the other character's side. Above table, I can imagine Uthgar thinking "Great, so the party is siding against me when I try to stand up for the honor of my diety and faith. Well I can see this becoming a problem if I keep pursuing it, so I better just get rid of this aspect of my character before it leads to the party hating my character." Next comes Uthgar's chastisement by the high-powered NPC for his actions. Again, above table I can imagine Uthgar's player thinking "Oh great, I can't win here. If my character defends his faith and god then the party is going to side against him, and if I try to get rid of that, the DM is going to have his NPCs talk down to me and give me grief about it, and the party's just going to sit there and let it happen. No matter what choice I make, it's the wrong one. Screw this." Lastly, the incident in the camp with the giant. Above table, this could have been an effort by Uthgar's player to get his character killed off in a way that was believable so he could roll up a new one. But it seems like the *DM* was the one who said "ah ah ah! You're not getting out of this that easily!" and instead used this as an opportunity to wreck the party's plans by making an enemy that could read Uthgar's mind and then not killing him off. I blame that whole situation squarely on the DM for taking it in that direction. Overall I'd call this all a case of people not communicating with each other and everything going to s#!t. Uthgar's player should have voiced his frustrations and OP and/or the party should have done the same. Nobody was in the right here, in my opinion.

I disagree. It was a plot point that these giants were nearly impossible to kill without the plot coupon, the players were made aware of that, and were able to plan around that fact. Going on quests for the magic sword that lets you complete a different quest is a common part of TTRPGs.

Out of curiosity, when you're looking for a story to cover on your channel, do you try to avoid doing ones that other youtubers have done, or do you focus on stories that you have a specific idea for commentary to add?
