The "prove you're gay" story is just proof that the people who get offended on behalf of other people are the ones who actually have something against the people they're preteblnding to defend. I recall jumping in a discord call with a bunch of friends of mine, 90% of whom are gay or some derivative thereof, and I greeted them with a term that KZbin doesn't approve of. Someone I didn’t know was also in the call. He yelled at me for saying that word to people I claimed to be friends with. Well, one of us got jumped on and chewed out by the gay people in the call, and it wasn't me.

Prove Your Gay Story. The absurdity of the argument can be seen clearly by pushing it to it's logical conclusion. If no one can play anything but what they are IRL, then everyone will be playing commoner humans. And regardless of how Michigan felt about it, Michigan had no right to demand some one prove who they are gay. Although I am now just a little curious just how Michigan wanted that proven, although I am afraid of the answer.

Yeah these types are very weird about their gatekeeping of strange aspects that never mattered. "no, you can only play x because you are y!" And "how dare you, a y, play an x this way! Change it or I'm out!" are incredibly self centered phrases because they demand people to meet their own expectations of different roles. Anyone can play anything given the DM approves of it. If it's a joke character, you can take the grievances to the party and your beef player. If everyone says you are in the wrong, you might want to perform some internal investigation as to why you're pissed about someone else's character. Then again, this is next to impossible for narcissistic personalities.

You just sit there and let me speak out against the big mean [insert majority group] for you, sweety!” It’s infantilizing a group while having some unnecessary savior complex. That being said, I could understand Michigan not believing a gay man would purposefully play a stereotypical flamboyant gay character. I can't say for sure but as an uneducated guess as a gay person, my guess is two things - one is it's a little bit of confirmation bias. I've met many straight guys who had a gay stereotypical voice but didn't think about their voice, but if i knew they were gay maybe I'd make the association. Similarly, if you expect stereotypes and don't see them, you may not realize that all those people you might have assumed were straight and had a nonstereotyped voice were actually gay. The other is camp culture in connection to the queer community coupled with a cultural tone/way of speaking. Not every gay person is interested in camp, but gay men especially are in average the largest proportion of camp enjoyers and I could see that bleeding into how some people speak.

I have animal people in my games, and not one gets this fucking weird. Each one has their own cultures that ISN'T the annual orgy going hedonists. Because I know furries better than the furries themselves at this point and I am still not sure to this day if the nightmares were worth it. But I digress, I know full well that furries aren't all hedonistic wanks hence why I craft my worlds carefully to ensure the majority of the cultural niches are fulfilled.
@Jean-Luc_Renard2 ай бұрын
I'm not a waiter, but here's some food for thought anyway. One: You can't "know" furries any more than you can "know" tabletop gamers, and to say you know a group better than themselves is historically dangerous territory. You're not the first person to think that way. Two: If you regularly use animal people in your lore and worldbuilding, you are a furry. Furries are people who like anthro character designs. You don't need a suit. You don't need a fursona. You don't need to attend conventions. You don't need an account with any furry website. You don't even need to interact with other furries. It's a matter of taste. Nothing more and nothing less. If this linguistic fact offends you, that says a lot about how you see furries. We're no more or less libidonous than anyone else. Many furries are asexual, many furries are prepubescent children, and one furry is my mother. I'd appreciate it if you refrain from talking about my family like that. Merci beaucoup.
@bloodwolfgaming92692 ай бұрын
Reminds me of that one story from a while about a reporter who decided to go to a furry convention to "prove that ALL furries are sex freaks that do inappropriate things to animals" only to turn around in their story they published about how wrong they were once they went to a convention and actually started to get to know furries. It's like the people who think that ALL cops are power tripping assholes who abuse their power and only want to shoot people. Yeah, there are some absolute garbage cops in this world. But they are only a minority compared to the good ones. It's just the media only tells the masses about the bad ones. Same goes with furries. Yea...there are some rather messed up individuals in the community who take their fetish WAY to far. But it's only a small fraction compared to the community as a whole. But since there is that stigma out there, A LOT of people assume that ALL furries are that way just because a few of them are.

Prove You're Gay!: This is stupid on many levels. Even if a player doesn't belong to a particular demographic, there's no prohibition against playing a pop culture archetype or even stereotype. Metagamers: If that's what they enjoy, I guess? It just seems like "Cheat Mode" might get boring fairly quickly. Kicked: Well, that escalated quickly. At least the problem was diagnosed and treated quickly. Zootopia: Ugh... When it comes to forcing peculiar kinks on other players, furries are certainly overrepresented. DM vs Players: This is why DMs need to study players' abilities with an eye toward creating opportunities for every players to use unique abilities rather than being surprised by them and summarily shutting them down. This is essence of the basic DMing principle of, "always shoot your monks." After they reach 3rd level, monks have Deflect Missiles as a reaction, but opportunities to use it are scarce. In world, this can be justified as the enemy archer believing that the unarmored guy is a better target than the paladin wearing full plate. Throw turnable undead at clerics, have hidden messages in druidic for druids to find or allow a creative application of Wildshape to work, have enemies realistically panic and flee before the seemingly unstoppable barbarian who just absolutely bodied one of their allies in a single turn--you get the idea. Challenge players but make sure their characters' unique abilities matter.

There's definitely ways for a straight person to mess up a gay stereotype character, but it depends on the person and isn't limited to gay stereotypes. If you can implement stereotypes in an interesting and knowing/understanding of the broader context of said stereotype, then have at it imo. It's when you just spread a stereotype without even trying to understand it that I have a problem. You can even get edgy with it, idc. My best friend is a straight guy and could see him doing this easily because he's just been so surrounded by queer people for so long that he's just sort of osmosised that knowledge over time.

First, the formation of the name and some grammar I saw makes me think they're speaking Portuguese, and by the numbers are probably Brazilian. I've known a few and being sensitive or reacting strongly happens a lot. But far more importantly, I'm old. Old enough to remember when Goon was the name for a Something Awful troll. When you reached despair saying "Vanity Fair" or "That Episode" (That broke spacetime and decency so bad that it still comes up if you Google That Episode.) There was little cross-pollination between groups and even today D&D kind of non-conspiracy creates little not just Normie fiefdoms but actual chronic gamer dude places. They tend to act like early Illuminaughti. Before she got into plagiarism and scams she did Reddit reading, badly. One of her go-to jokes was to do a furry sub and just fake vomit every time she saw furry intimacy. Not even cringe anything. It was forced, performative disgust over furries being intimate, like kissing or hugging. Like Cartman talking about gingers and Jews. So I tend to disbelieve the scope of "D&D guy bravely only vomits a little on seeing a furry, demands a crusade to destroy furries" stories. It sounds slightly awkward, and also sounds like a macho possibly Brazilian Goon performatively hated furries for Reddit karma from the other insincere PoMo always-online types.

That assumes DM would indeed leave new players at a disadvantage compared to veterans. Could give the new players free magic items or have a plot device cut off veterans from their old stuff. And now I'm trying to figure out how to make Meta gaming actually work in a game but make it fair for all the people playing.

Offended on "behalf" of others, sure. My theory? NEEDED to be the biggest drama queen at the table and didn't want to be up against that stereotype when doing it.

I feel Doge mentioned it before and I forgot, likely because it doesn't come up often. Probably too used to another tabletop horror story narrator consistently mentioning their orientation in relation to stories.
@Here_is_Waldo2 ай бұрын
It rarely comes up. I've heard Crispy mention being asexual a few times when talking about some story involving sexual themes. Den of the Drake has pointed out being straight a few times, but I don't recall anyone else mentioning their preferences.

@@Here_is_Waldo With Crispy it makes sense because a lot of those things blow past them.

Why would it even matter if the player is gay or not? Should gay people not be allowed to play straight characters? Or anyone else play cross gender characters or characters of other races?

3rd story... From the sounds of if they were going to have to each have a one on one fight naked. That's pretty tame dude. I've had that kind of thing happen in even non furry groups. A better reaction would have taken that moment to to get an idea of what is and isn't going to be expected in the game.
@ArcCaravan2 ай бұрын
The insistence on nudity and trapping the party in the room was enough red flags to leave. Someone not deconfirming OPs concerns afterward doesn't help, like they expected everyone to automatically enjoy whatever nude event happened.
@SapphWolf2 ай бұрын
@ArcCaravan Deconfirming their concerns? They didn't voice any concerns they just left the session and blocked the person who messaged them without responding. Like, I definitely get why someone would have been uncomfortable in that situation, but they made no effort to express that or move the game away from that kind of situation or get clarification on what kinds of themes are gonna be explored in this game and reevaluate if they wanted to be a part of the game. They just dipped.
@ArcCaravan2 ай бұрын
@@SapphWolf Apparently the group couldn't figure out why OP would be uncomfortable trapped with nude furries, instead assuming they'd enjoy the situation instead of asking what was wrong. And what would be gained from staying and having their fears confirmed?
@SapphWolf2 ай бұрын
@@ArcCaravanThey literally were never given a chance to correct course or rectify the situation in any way. OP literally said nothing the entire time. Made no effort to communicate their feelings. Seemingly everyone else was having fun and continued to have fun after OP left. The scenario was present and OP dipped. That's it.
@ArcCaravan2 ай бұрын
@SapphWolf The person who messaged OP could have asked what was wrong instead of just saying OP missed "the best part". People are free to run fetish games so long as they are up front about it and understand not everyone wants to join them or stay with them.

I think Doge might like Magical Kitties Save the World, might be fun to see him get some players together to play the game with him playing one (or more) of his kitties or having all his kitties playing some notable NPCs if he's the GM

Blade. The titular character is what'z called a Daywalker; essentially a Dhampir. He's got the speed and resiliance of a vampire, but he can survive sunlight.

Damn. I should start listening to glory story videos more, maybe I'll actually see stories where furries aren't creepy pervs and diddlers. I have a furry centric setting myself, but would never do things like this. Here's a PSA, you can be a furry, and play D&D without being a creep, it is possible I just wish people would try. Haha

I mean being a furry I play with other furries and we don't have that problem. Like you've noticed its just selection bias from listening to horror stories.

15:32 No, the OP had it right with "Ranger and me." Always treat the sentence as if the other party isn't involved. "John brought dessert for I" isn't right, so "John brought dessert for Ralph and I" would be wrong.

First story - Yeah this is one of those stories where I'm not sure anyone was in the wrong here. I feel like the worst case scenario is that OP and friends were the type to not be offended by something, but aren't able to fully process why OTHER people might be. It's not a super great look, as based on what they said about the language they used, I'm guessing the issue is that they aren't bothered by using the F Slur. Which is fine I guess but it makes you look like a shitbag nowadays. Which, again, if homeboy is gay and still uses that language and (probably) goes all Bronson Pinchot in Beverly Hills Cop in game, that's their right. But you still look bad. That's all I'm saying. Probably best for them to part ways, because I'm not even gay and that would bother me too.

Ehhhhh, I feel like the paladin story feels dubious and I'm not sure I trust it. For one the gear discrepancy would make me uncomfortable too? It feels like he's touting up his one friend who still played (and it is his ONE friend being the only person) also despite it being stated "I'm sure the GM will do x" he never actually states that such a thing happened, that and OP talking in the GM's place feels very icky for me ngl. But what do I know
