Oof, that canned air thing reminded me of my sister's ex. After she left in what was meant to just be a break, the a-hole tried to get her back by chugging down a bunch of pills. She did call 911 for him, but did thankfully have the wisdom to leave him for good. Though in later years she admitted regretting saving him. In her defense his own sister and mother have suggested they wouldn't have judged her if she hadn't...so gives you some idea of how bad he was.

Man, this story...I'm honestly at a loss for words. Thom has some serious issues and it's a shame that Mandy didn't take the hint and GTFO when she had the chance. Seriously, anyone who would risk self-deletion just to get back at his girlfriend for calling him out for pretending to have an addiction is not someone you should be hanging out with, let alone agreeing to marry.

Younger people today don't realize what life was like before the internet. We didn't have the resources available today and the collected wisdom of community. You learned how to play D&D from a friend or friend group. If things were toxic you didn't know any better. If you had a "that guy", power gamer, in your group You either put up with it or you didn't play as finding groups was much harder. They usually consisted of already established friend groups. Just to make it clear I'm not trying to sound like a old lady yelling at youth, I much prefer the access to information we have now. Spotting toxic players, finding gaming groups that fit for you and Examples of good play are a good thing for the hobby. Although I still prefer face to face play around a table, take it from someone who's been playing D&D for Over 30 years, stories like these have improved the hobby tremendously. 🖤

Starkiller's been non to semi-canon for a long time. George Lucas didn't like the character, so he treated Force Unleashed as non-canon. He did the same with the KotOR games, but liked the idea of Revan (even wanted to write him into Clone Wars). The EU's kind of a mess when it comes to canonization, but Disney certainly didn't help matters there.

Aww. Hello Lucky. Story 1: It started off quite good except for min/maxer. Uh, the pregnancy bit is a big red flag if not handled right. That was quite manic. Ohhh. This is not good; being the forgotten child per say. Ok, the red flags are piling up too fast now! That was clever of DM of blowing up the Galleon but the issues are piling up fast. Ok; that was dickish; attending a meeting just for the ego boost. Uh… I think we have some serious hidden issues with Mandy and Thom. That was Hunter: A Parenting moment there. Brutal. Ok, Thom is starving for attention and his plans are hair brained at that.
@corvusdove8742 жыл бұрын
Believe it or not, the pregnancy played out well. Jane's character had the baby, but not as expected, as when she saw the penalties late-term pregnancy inflicted in the BoEF play out, she wanted to get away from the concept. So, I had them enter a "groundhog day" situation where they were ensnared in magic in a village that looped time, but every time the party got the puzzle wrong (such as by killing the Mayor), the day started again, but with the village distressed a bit more, like the plants rotting or the buildings being damaged. I ruled a component of the magic caused Jane's character to give birth to a baby-sized gem instead of an actual baby, one with which the sorceress absconded, but the key to getting out of the trap was to smash the gem at the bottom of the village well. When they did, the town vanished, having been trapped in that loop for thousands of years, and the party was standing in the old ruins. Then there was no more BoEF usage requests lol.

Aggressive metagamers generally shouldn't be welcomed in most groups. Either the group is 100% metagamers, or it's 0% metagamers. It's surprisingly easy for a DM to keep information away from their players that their characters wouldn't know, and it's easy enough to explain a player's monster knowledge away as a character's own monster knowledge in a world where these monsters are real. This isn't meta-gaming. For you problem players out there, power gaming & min-maxing also aren't metagaming. It's perfectly acceptable to min-max, and it won't harm any decent player's fun at the table. Min-maxing doesn't automatically make you a worse roleplayer any more than building a terrible character automatically makes you a better one. Metagaming is so heinous because it breaks verisimilitude. You take a logical story with internal consistency and you break that consistency by declaring that a character suddenly acts on information they are proven not to know. The boundary between player and character blurs, and we're splashed with the cold reality that we're just a bunch of nerds playing at a table. This can be fine, of course, and D&D is obviously a game played by a bunch of nerds at a table, but most players in the hobby like to use this game to escape their realities in the same way people do when reading books. We like to immerse ourselves in another world, and suspend our disbelief for just long enough to feel what our characters feel, and truly be there in that fantasy world we've all created. Metagaming ruins all this for everyone, which is why it's so bad. It should really be reserved for pure meat grinder games with no roleplay, and nothing else. No metagaming is acceptable, because what most people consider "light" metagaming can easily be explained as information that characters could be explained to have. It's either blatant metagaming, or it's not.

I always find it interesting that when women play overtly sexual characters people give it a hand wave and don't treat it as the severe red flag that it is. In contrast a dude that plays an overtly sexual character labeled a creeep. Not saying that they aren't, it's funny how a red flag based on the genitalia of a player is ignored.
@corvusdove8742 жыл бұрын
In this case, it wasn't. I don't mind sexually charged characters in a game played right, and she did. She didn't present any red flags during gameplay other than initially asking me to dig out my copy of the BoEF, which I normally kept more as a curio.

As explained in another comment, it's a rare book now but was "official" under the open licensing of 3.5e. Interestingly, it's approach was quite mature for what it was, speaking matter-of-factly and presenting tables based off of real world statistics. It got a bit cringe when you came across it having "sexual healer" classes, but the mechanics were presented in a way that you could easily "fade to black" and simply do the dicerolls for some things. I used it twice, in that game and one other, and in neither was there actual ERP, just references to it for powers and biological consequences between sessions and, of course, trying to fit in heavy plate male while in the second trimester.
