In terms of game design, I can't pretend I like the Primal Knowledge allowing the Barbarian to Rage to use **Persuasion** (emphasis added due to some misreading) and Strength in any social situation. I would be OK with it *if* was to convince folks in combat, like Persuasion to exert leadership, give morale, etc. My reasons are obvious : some characters may be built to be social/charismatic, let them shine, rather than allow a Barb with 18 Str attempt his own non-combat Persuasion. Compare that with a Fighter who wants to play a leader: the Barb will oddly be better at Persuasion, pretty much for free (well, while Raging only), while that Fighter will invest in Charisma, a proper subclass, etc. - I am of course *not* talking about Intimidation, which is fine. Barbs could have a permanent feature to Intimidate with Str and I would be fine with that. I am also ok with Acrobatics using Str while Raging in combat or Persuasion with Str in combat to lead NPC allies in a charge.

"Well while Raging only" is a massive understatement here. Barbarians do not want to use their rages if they don't have to. If you feel like a Barbarian at your table is using this feature "for free" I'd challenge you to run more encounters per day because burning a rage should never feel free for a Barbarian player. Also, while some players do build their character to be social, there's also like every warlock who gets to be super good in social encounters just for playing a warlock. I don't see this as anything different other than it being way more limited due to the rage requirement.
@Bomber130096 ай бұрын
I actually really like how this feature works: It gives a risk for expending a use of your rage for a better roll elsewhere; Do you risk potentially not having a rage for the next combat encounter just to get a better price on that magic axe? Also, on the DM side of things, I think that using Strength for some checks would lead to different results failure or success; Sure, you managed to persuade the shopkeeper to lower their price on the item, but in doings so, you’ve scared them so badly that they never want you to come back to the shop and will call the guards if you attempt to do so.

I love having all of those choices, in the “Totem Warrior” the new Wildheart. The more options the better. I just hope that the Elk with the increased mobility features, is still an option. That one is my favorite. Please Wotc have those options still be able to be chosen!
@TheSilverCrescent136 ай бұрын
About 17 minutes in you say something that isn't quite accurate. You claim that people thought they had to choose the same animal totems in the original version of Path of the Totem Warrior because they saw the same animals reappearing in each feature. While this is true, it leaves out the fact that the subclass description discourages choosing different animals, saying it is very rare for someone to have multiple types of totem animals. It said that you *could* use multiple, but to me it heavily implied that you shouldn't without consulting your DM.

I am so excited for these updates! I love playing a barb and now being able to use strength for intimidation checks just feels right. I do however wish they would change how dual wielding off hand attacks works. With so many other things costing a bonus action dual wielding never feels good on any melee class. Like when i think of berserker I think of 2 hand axes or battle axes and just being a whirlwind of steel. But with frenzied strike, rage, and other things being tied to bonus actions the default is always just using a 2h weapon and using either the frenzy bonus attack or GWM bonus attack. I know they are adding the nick mastery for light weapon dual wielding, but I think if you took the dual wield fight style or feat that you would be able to make additional off hand attacks up to the amount of extra attacks you would get from your attack action. That way you would really feel like a true dual wielder instead of, "im going to swing with my main hand 4 times and then my off hand once" as a fighter.

Is it bad that I’m not crazy upset by any of the new changes I’ve seen? Like, I get the vibe from the comments that I should be angry and up in arms, but I’m not.

The main problem I encountered playing the Barbarian was problems with rage. but in the voiced fix, everything will be fine for barbarians up to level 14. But here an alternative point arises: in high-level adventures from level 16 to 20, the barbarian feels very weak, especially in the example of a warrior. Will you touch his peak form? is this an epic of power and fury, so to speak, his final version of the barbarian in DND?

Barbarian was my first Class playing DnD The new Berserker Subclass sounds like the Subclass I really wanted. But the exhaustion condition made me to pick an other subclass

Did someone say powercreep? Going to be really great to see the MM is going to deal with all this increased player power.

Barbarian isn't some strong class - it needed buffs, lol. Like every other martial.
@Thecavalryshere5 ай бұрын
@notsochosenone5669 I'm not saying it's strong compared to other classes, if you watch all the new PHB videos, it's a massive powercreep across ALL classes. Going to need to see that power increase reflected in the MM.

@@Thecavalryshere don’t worry bro monsters are all overhauled to more accurate match their CR. With that being said a CR 5 should give 4 level 5s a decent challenge now instead of 2014 monsters.

It sounds like the overriding philosophy for the 2024 Rules is "As long as the Players are having fun, it's good," which is great... Sadistic RAW DMs everywhere will now be pushing Homebrew Rules from AD&D with a Tomb of Horror's flavor.

Glad to see barbarians getting to use STR for more, but hate making them use a rage just to be good at a skill outside of combat. Just attach the bonus to subclasses or something else. They are already stretched for stats.

I am hoping Call Emotions get a clause for Rage. It feels wrong that is no longer can be used to counter a Rage by pausing combat for a round. How is a barbarian able to use a bonus action to maintain rage when can't feel that rage?

Anyone else feel like Primal Knowledge sucks? You can use it on Acrobatics, Intimidation, Perception, Stealth, or Survival. You get to use strength for the check and since you are raging, you get advantage. Why does it use up a rage though? That cost is too high to be worth it. You can maintain a rage for 10 minutes, but how many of these checks will you make in a 10 minute span? I'd say you would be lucky to get 3 checks. You probably aren't chaining stealth checks. Once you try to intimidate someone, you'll either get what you need or you won't be allowed to try again. You usually won't be hiven multiple perception or survival checks in 10 minutes. And the chance of you neesing multiple Acrobatics checks in 10 minutes is low. Barbs shouldn't have to spend their combat resources to have any out of combat use, because then they won't be useful in combat (without rages) and are basically just a worse fighter. Not being able to rage in combat also locks you out of most of your subclass features most times. Reckless attack is hard to justify most times without rage resistance.

Is it true there's only 4 sub-classes per class in the handbook? They're just going to ignore half the 2014 wizard schools of magic or cleric divine domains?
