Yep as far as on everybody's top 3, from a pure athletic standpoint, I'm not sure he's even top 10. He was physically gifted no doubt, but there's nothing necessarily elite about his physical skill-set. But when it comes to pure desire and dedication to perfection, it's Jordan #1, Kobe #2, and a pretty big gap before you come to #3.

Kobe and MJ hold the record for 9 All-NBA Defense selections. NINE. People always look on the offense side of things but those 3-peat Lakers and Bulls with Kobe and MJ playing perimeter defense were extremely difficult to break down from up top. Playing defense is about attitude so give me a player who wants to be THE stopper, excels when he's mad, and never stops to evolve every aspect of his game beginning his days at 4am in the gym. To have all those attributes plus his mamba mentality to win, there isn't another player in NBA history who's comparable except for MJ. Those are the things that makes him top 3

In LA Kobe was a God. Came into the NBA at 17 (drafted out of high school) and was immediately dominating seasoned college and NBA players. Grew into one of the greatest American athletes of all time before our eyes. Beloved by most NBA fans but worshiped in LA. Not only a great baller and athlete, but a philosopher and role model in how to achieve anything through hard work and belief in oneself. Truly a man who knew no ceiling. (The man had just won an Oscar (Academy Award)) An incalculable loss to NBA world, and the people of LA. ♥ RIP Mamba and Gianna♥

Very well said, as a Los Angeles native growing up in the 90s getting to witness the life & career of Kobe Bryant as it happen was something truly amazing, A bright mind and soul that inspired and motivated so many. Most would say Kobe got all of his moves from Jordan which is true but Kobe mastered it and did it better in my eyes, seeing him play was a treat seeing play in person was a gift. He might've dominated, but he didn't play much his rookie year due to Eddie Jones being an all-star shooting guard (who the Lakers ended up trading to Charlotte) and Dell Harris who wouldn't play him (who ended up getting fired and replaced by Phil Jackson)

Southern California in general, not just LA. Orange County, San Diego, the Inland Empire. He was THE man. Hell, he even had a ton of fans in central and northern California as well before the Warriors got really popular. He was a Laker through and through his entire career and then obviously died tragically young. I don't know if there will ever be another athlete as good as him who was that legendary for just one team. The closest I could think of in the modern era was Tom Brady, but then he went to play in Florida.

This video only had highlights from the back half of Kobe's career. His first 10 years he wore #8 and he wore #24 his last 10 (The Lakers retired both numbers). The lakers were never my favorite team but Kobe was a favorite player of mine. I was devastated when he passed away. These highlights were really good, however they missed the Olympic year with the Redeem Team. If you can watch a highlight video of that team you can see how much of an influence and how important Kobe was to that team. Without him they would have lost for sure.

I’m not a die hard basketball fan but I loved Kobe on & off the court. Wish I would have seen him play live. Watched him play on tv many times at least, glad to say I knew him long before he passed away. His off the court passion is something to be admired, he left nothing in the tank, lived life to the absolute fullest You can always find a better video to react to but you guys got a pretty good one here, there are longer ones if your interested either react to them or watch them on your own time if your interested. Kobe was one of a kind He played injured, since I was a kid I’ve loved the clip of the guy trying to scare/make Kobe flinch, he acts like he’s gonna throw the ball in Kobe’s face from a few inches away & Kobe just stares him down, doesn’t flinch whatsoever. Complete badass move. Most players when injured get off the court & into the locker room quickly, Kobe reminds me of Larry bird in that sense both would suck it up & keep playing even with serious injuries, just cut from a different cloth

Watching it live, when he split that double team and hit that pull up jumper I started bawling. The game was like a microcosm of his career. Started off slow(first two years riding the pine, then he took off. I’m the game he missed like his first 4 or maybe more shots I can’t recall ) the game came down to Kobe making heroic shots at the end- 60 and a win. He literally left it all on the floor. I’m getting choked up type this, I really miss that guy.

While I wouldn't argue too strongly against anyone who has Kobe top 3, I would probably put him more around 5-10. With all due respect to the late legend, I don't believe he was even the best player on his own team for much of his career. (Shaquille O'Neal request!) I don't actually have a list or anything. Frankly I find the ranking of players to be a bit tedious. There's no question however that Kobe is one of the most iconic players in NBA history.

In terms of all-around skills, Kobe is easily top 3. The dude really had it all: good shooter, amazing post moves, excellent ball handler, good facilitator while also being a top 5 (possibly top 3) all-time defender. He’s definitely in my top 3 when it comes to the best and he was also ranked 3rd by current NBA players a poll that was conducted last season, but he’s also a very polarizing player due to his personality, personal life and style of play and so many people don’t rank him quite as high. One of the best things about Kobe was his insane work ethic and unshakable confidence in himself. I think many people would agree that there’s no one you want more than Kobe when taking the final shot in a big game. The dude never shied away from the spotlight. Just look at his performance in the last quarter of the 2008 Olympic Gold Medal match against Spain. The Netflix Documentary “The Redeem Team” really does a good job showing how “different” Kobe is compared to typical NBA players.

Biggest problem I had with Kobe was when he didn't have a good offensive game, he amplified forcing shots to try to get his offensive game going. Kobe started his career with 8 as his number and then changed it to 24 in the 2006-2007 season. So if you wanted to do another Kobe reaction video down the road, I would search for his earlier career highlights where he was sporting the number 8, and had a lot more high-flying dunk highlights. Kobe and Pau were incredible together on the lakers, one of the best duo's of all time imo, so Kobe knew they were going to run a pick right at the beginning of the game, and Kobe said to his teammates "I'm running through Pau's fucking chest". As a person who regards himself as a laker hater and used to be a Kobe hater back in his prime as well (whike secretly admiring him behind closed doors,lol) I’ve lost a ton of many to the great Kobe Bryant and his dominance. The man was just unhinged and unflappable. He’s the definition of obsession over your craft, dedication, and relentlessness. I grew to appreciate him as his career started to wind down but man early in his career, oh man he caused my teams a lot of headaches. 😂😂

I had the exact same path with Kobe lol! Like down to each step, the increasing respect as his career progressed, all of it. He's still probably not even in my all-time top 5 but he was an all-time great, no doubt.

crazy thing about those highlights is i think all of them were with #24 (he chanaged it in 2006 is a kind of rebranding and a new beginning) and stayed 24 until the end of his career in in 2016.. he was drafted in 1996 straight out of highschool (very rare to happen almost 98ish% of nba rookies went to college for a year or have played pro ball in another league outside the US. You guys need to find highlights of his early career when he wore #8!! those are just as crazy if not more bc he had even more athletic ability

I think one of the most important contributions Kobe has made to the game was being a mentor to so many of NBA’s current elites. He definitely was/still is this current generation of player’s Michael Jordan.

I loved Kobe's 8 era. Shame there's very, very little in here from when he and Shaq made a joke out of the league when they won back to back to back championships from 2000 to 2002. I'd love to see you two cover that Laker team. Untouchable.

This is NOT a take against Kobe, but it will sound like it. Kobe missed the most attempts EVER. It's a piece of knowledge to help put him into a little bit of perspective. The ultimate gunner, the ultimate the next shot is going in kind of player.

The most missed shots argument is irrelevant. It’s because Koby took that many shots, that he scored a lot too. You can’t score that high if you’re not constantly trying to score. Like the NHL great Wayne Gretzky once said “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” This from the top goal scorer in NHL history. I’m pretty sure Gretzky’s missed shots total is high also. Gretzky’s career shooting percentage was 17.6%. That means he missed 82.4% of his shots. Michael Jordan missed a lot of shots as well. His career shooting percentage was 49.7%. Lebron’s is 50.5% so far. In Baseball, Ty Cobb still has the highest career batting average at .366. That equates to a “shooting average” of 36.6%. That means that 63.4% of the time, he made an out. I think your take WAS against Kobe.
@LuckyLefty92
@LuckyLefty92 Жыл бұрын
He played 20 years, and was the only perimeter oriented player in the top 5 scoring in NBA history and ALL of them are top 6 to 7 in missed shots. Thats not perspective if you only point out that Kobe was at the top but not that he finished his career as the highest scoring non big man of all time. It's a media driven narrative that will change once Lebron overtakes him in missed shots. Don't say you heard it here first tho
@phunkjnky
@phunkjnky Жыл бұрын
@@LuckyLefty92 Lebron averages 19.7 shots per game,. This means he could play the next 182 games (MORE THAN 2 SEASONS) without hitting a shot and still have a better shooting percentage. Tell me more about how its just a media-driven narrative.

Kobe is a 5 time NBA champion, one of the highest scoring players in NBA history. 4th most points all time in NBA playoff history, and 4th most points all time NBA history. He's got 2 NBA finals MVP's, he was teammates with Shaq for his first 3 NBA championships so those finals MVP's (rightfully so) went to Shaq, but Kobe was still one of the top 3 or 4 players in the league for those first 3 as well. He's an 18 time NBA all-star. He's a 9 time NBA first defensive team selection and 3 time second defensive team selection. Meaning he was one of the top 10 defensive players in the league for 12 seasons. 11 all NBA first team selections, 2 second team selections, 2 third team selections- meaning he was top 5 in the league for 11 seasons, top 10 for 2 seasons, top 15 for 2 seasons. 2 time scoring champion and has a regular season MVP as well, although the one thing most NBA fans agree upon is he should have at least 3 MVP's. Steve Nash completely robbed him in 2005-2006 of one when kobe had one of the greatest seasons in NBA history, and by a mile the best player in the league that season. These were great highlights. Here are 2 more to check out: -Kobe's 81 point game highlights (most ever scored in a single NBA game in the modern era, second most ever in NBA history) -Kobe's final game performance before his retirement

Kobe Bryant goes beyond the highlights, he may have the greatest work ethic in nba history. He only slept for 3 to 4 hours per day and was in the gym at 4am almost every day. Mamba mentality. Also Kobe Bryant is the best tough shot maker in nba history and it ain’t even close. The shots he makes is unreal! He had a 20 year career so the video yall watched is actually missing more INSANE highlights of Kobe Bryant. Y’all watched mainly the number 24 Kobe Bryant in the 2nd half of his career. Y’all now need to watch the number 8 Kobe Bryant, that’s the highlights when he was younger and even more athletic. Nasty dunks
