The joke about Sbarro pizza is that it is, or was, in every single shopping mall in America. You could get it anywhere. Almost like the Starbucks of pizza. So if you’re going to New York, Sbarro would be the last slice you’d buy

I love it that he was actually a Financial Adviser at Merrill Lynch at the time. I mean he had acted before, going back to an episode of China Beach in 1990, but I think had largely transitioned to finance at this time. I think this led him to go back to acting though.

Conan O'Brien is known as a talk show host, but he got his start as one of the head writers on The Simpsons. He wrote the episodes, New Kid on the Block, Marge vs the Monorail, Homer Goes to College, and Treehouse of Horror IV.

Y'all not really knowing Conan makes me think, it'd be very much worth your while to go down a rabbit hole of some of his stuff that's on KZbin. When he had his show, he did remotes where he'd go out either in the US or abroad and interact with people and it was, always, absolutely hilarious. Very much worth your time; based on your senses of humor, I think he'd be right up your alley.

The end of Michael’s presentation you see “A Michael Scott Joint” which is a play on Spike Lee movies, he would always have “A Spike Lee Joint” in movies he produced. People always talk crap about Sbarros, but man in the 90s, early 2000s, if you were at the mall and hungry, it was perfectly fine. It’s pizza by the slice, they reheat cheese pizza with the toppings you want just like every pizza by the slice shop in America. With that said, the last time I had sbarro was maybe 2007.

I don’t know if you’re picking up on the pattern between Michael and Jan (I definitely didn’t for a long time), she’s always the most attracted to him when he does his job well. At Chili’s, he closed the sale after acting like a buffoon the entire night. And here, he had her on the brink of losing her job, but he acted professionally and smooth talked his way out of trouble. I love those little details that make it feel believable

@@sweettea527 Coming from a pretty rural area a city of 76,000 is pretty big but I know to New Yorkers it would be a "small town." In fact there's one commentary where they kind of admit they make Scranton out to be more diverse than it was at this time. (Even in 2020 the city was 83% white, 6% Black, and 5% Asian. Hispanic was around 14%, this adds up to a 100% because Hispanics can be of any race, but if Hispanics are underrepresented think that's because most English-language American TV does that. Interestingly I believe Scranton is way more Italian and Polish than I think the show indicated.)

As two of my favorite Brits, you wouldn't get the joke of Michael's stupidity in saying, "That's either the East [River] or Hudson [River]." These are two rivers on either side of Manhattan, so saying it's either one of those is as good as saying "we're somewhere in Manhattan." (And by the way, he was near the Hudson River in that shot, which is on the far west side of the island.)

Don’t eat at Sbarro’s-it’s considered the McDonalds of pizza and is found at rest stop businesses on highways, airport food courts and malls. It is then worst. There are so many authentic pizzerias inn New York like John’s, Joe’s, with the best New York style pizza. Just google best pizza in NYC. Anyone who recommends Sbarros doesn’t have taste buds.

Dateline does cover American crime but it was most famous for "To Catch a Predator" show with Chris Hansen where they'd honeytrap child predators with decoys in cooperation with the local police departments.
