Fun fact: John Krasinski (Jim) and BJ Novak (Ryan) went to high school together, and were in the same graduating class. They played Little League baseball together, too, so they've known each other basically their whole lives at this point.

One thing to note throughout the series is that Michael is/was a great salesman. That's how he got promoted to manager in the first place.

Michael Scott is a perfect example of the so-called “Peter principle,” which states that in a hierarchical organization, people tend to be promoted until they reach their level of incompetence.

The Poconos are an area of northeastern Pennsylvania (PA) that's pretty close to the PA-New Jersey state borders. It's a vacation/holiday destination in the Mid-Atlantic region of the US. There's also the Pocono Mountain range in that area. Which the Poconos is pretty close to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (S/WB) area. It's to the east of the S/WB area. NASCAR has the only 3-turn track in the Pocono mountain range. Which is located in Long Pond, PA. Hopefully, that helps both of you out with the Pocono mountain area.

So Michael putting the cash reward out then rescinding it for petty reasons is reminiscent of how Christopher Columbus nailed a gold piece to the ship's mast and promised to give it to the first man who spotted land. A crew member did and every one celebrated. Christopher Columbus however said he had seen land first but just didn't say anything and pocketed the coin.

I laid carpet in college, helping out a friend. Laying carpet in an office is easy. Cut it to fit, then glue it down. Stretching and seaming carpet in a house is much harder and you need to know what you're doing.

It is weird for the warehouse personnel to be changing the carpet. I think the director/producer just wanted to have regular characters doing it instead of one-off, nameless characters.

It's a cool hidden joke in this one that Michael actually WAS RIGHT that it was a "present" out of love, not hate (at least as far as you believe Packer is capable of love), as unbelievable as that sounded at the time :) Love your theories about how the end of the season/Pam's wedding/who's running towards/away from who is going to go :)
