It seems unlikely until one realizes that each decade brings tens of thousands of new songs to the audience. Unless a young person listens to radios who broadcast songs from different eras, it's actually not that strange that major artists and songs are practically unknown to them. The labels want to push new music, it's hard to make money with the older one.
