Our nearly 2 years old cockapoo hasn’t been left in the house by herself for over 2 hours😢. Daughter luckily can take her to her office and if she can’t she get left with our parents or family members. Even if we leave her at 8am 11:17 we all won’t be back after 5pm😢

I've always had two dogs but this last year I experienced the unexpected early loss of a dog and the remaining one going through the grieving process (which I still not sure he is over so many behaviours have changed) now I am not sure what is better or worse there are pros and cons for having 1 dog and leaving them or having more than 1 dog so they have company.

Agree but then you have the mourning dog when their friend is gone. It’s painful to watch them, can get a new dog but at times that doesn’t help, they want THEIR friend and eventually your own circumstances may not be possible to get another one.

I’m a new dog owner so it’s really awesome to see. I was there when my pup was born and hand fed her because she the runt. Things were very rough at first but at 10 weeks now she’s so smart and already at like 20 commands. I love that girl with my whole heart 😂😭 I used to be skeptical but I now know that there are really no bad dogs… just owners who misunderstand their companions. They make everyday an adventure.

Recently, several times in a row I was in a rush when I left my little yorkipoo at my friend and/or sister’s home for a couple hours to run an errand or go to church. Upon return I was told she was noticeably distressed and unsettled while I was gone. This was surprising since these two places are her very favorite places and people to visit. Upon reflection I realized I didn’t say goodbye and tell her I would be back before I abruptly left. Since then I make a point of letting her know I was going out but emphasized I would be back, which I always did/do when I leave her alone at home. Now, when I do so at another’s home she calmly watches me leave and has a fun and relaxed visit until I return. She’s so smart and affectionate….I love my little buddy.

Every time that I come home, wether I was gone a short or long time, my dog has taken my pillow that i sleep on into the lounge room floor or by the bay window where she keeps lookout for me. I guess my smell on the pillow comforts her and maybe even lays on it each time. She has done this from the time she was a pup.

My supervisor has two small dogs at work, when she leaves I put on a Dog Anxiety and separation YT video and those really work, If I listen to it, I start getting sleepy. It truly takes the edge off the dogs.

we really don't prefer to leave our dog alone AT ALL aand she's not she's always with someone whether it's one of us, our son, or even my mother in law. not bc she has behavioral issues or anything, but bc we treat her as if she's our child, like our toddler that never grows up. is that unhealthy that we give her too much love and attention?? even if it is were not gonna stop. she deserves the world🤷‍♀️

I puppy sit for my best friend sometimes and pupper always look out the windows when she leaves. When she doesnt come home at the scheduled times, Sky start to whine. Though after a few minutes after she leaves in the early morning, Sky gets in bed with me for cuddles.

They have a verry different response to you coming home depending on their expectations. We used to have a Golden Retriver. We lived in the city centre. Both I and my partner worked within a few minutes walking distance from home. The routine we put in place was that I came home for lunch first. I heated and ate my food. I then heated my partners food. She cama home and I went back to work. She would eat and then take the dog out for a potty break. After work I came home f8irst and took the dog out for a good walk. When I came home for lunch he did not really react at all. I was like air to him. He had no use of me as I did neither feed him or take him out. When I came hame after work he greated me enthustiasticly as he knew that I would take him out.

Mine won’t drink water when I’m gone. Once I get home, they really gulp it down before going out to potty. I don’t know why, but if I had to guess, I’d say since they don’t know when I’ll be back, they don’t want to be bursting & have legs double crossed trying to hold it.

I walk my dogs twice a day, I'm lucky to work from home. Walking around the neighborhood though, I see at least 5 different dogs who don't ever get walks. At least 3 of them live right across from a park 😥

My 12mth old golden retriever who is normally a gentlie well behaved lovely dog throws the biggest destructive tatrums even if im only gone for a short time destroying anything paper, cardboard, pillows , couches and my mattress ripping them into shreds and hes not even left alone he has my 11 yr old jack russell for company who has never behaved like this and is cowering when i get home as she knows its naughty.

Have 4, 3 Dobermans and a pit bull. All very spoiled, all have health insurance, and twice a week I cook for them. Usually hamburger & rice on Wednesday and rare steaks on Saturday. Treats are mostly human grade jerky and milk bone snacks. I'm retired so almost always home and they are not used to being alone. On those rare occasions, 3 of them are left out but still have to crate the 1 year old Dobie because she is still busy and will get into something. I can be gone for a half hour but when I get back you would think I was gone for a month. I hate crating her and feel like I just locked up one of my kids or something so try and not be gone long.

My dogs do ok if im leaving to go to work but they know when im leaving and NOT going to work… how is that?? So if im not working I don’t go anywhere unless they go with. None are crated and they have a doggie door and a huge back yard to play in while gone. And get to sleep on furniture or our bed when they please ❤❤❤

I taught my Aussie "bye bye". I say 'bye bye" when I leave and "Good bye bye" when I return. A little treat or an ear scratch and she is just fine. She has learned that I'm leaving and sees it as something that happens from time to time. I love my dog but I find it important for her to learn her own sense of security and frees me up to have a life knowing my dog is well adjusted and capable of handling my being gone. REMINDER : Train your dog from the beginning and reinforce that training throughout their life. The smarter the breed the easier it (may) be.

My rescue dogs prefer the kennel when I'm at work. Would it be better for them to leave the kennel door open so they can come and go from it while I'm at work. Soon, i will be able to work from home two days a week. I'm just working through my probationary period before i can work from home. My husband also is home most days 2-3 hours before I am.

Dogas are just like us. Some handle seprteion well others do not. What separates us from them is most of them are "survivors" (e.g. dog looses owner to sickness but dog gets a good new home....a seen in many YT vieos the dogs look fine...some take a few days to get voer the sadness but they do usually eventualy carry on happy.....i guess stil they never forget the original owner...memories stored away. ..if htey had a good first owner they were close to and had good times. .........if hte owner was bad/abussive...i thinkt he dog gets over them fast...)... My Pug ha been more than smart enough to know i would return if gone for a few hours (e.g. shopping). No destructive behavor telling me he had no anxiety. or resentment for not taking him with me.
