I also done the exact same restoration on my headlights (both very oxidised) about a month ago and they've maintained the clarity well, made night driving a lot better as the lights were brighter without upgrading to better bulbs!

Hi. Great video. Did my Mx5 Mk3 sport today. Used the Holts kit after much research. Drill attachment and plenty of pads down to 3000 grit, polishing pad and paste. Recommend using plenty of water and the paste and unless they’re really bad start with the 1000 grit. Also had a spray sealant. For £15.99 it’s brilliant.

Top video mate, found your channel earlier this year when I was looking at buying an NC, had mine now a few months and find myself coming back for useful stuff like this

I used the Cerakote kit and it gives you 2 of everything so you have plenty of material and the Cerakote finish is extremely durable.

Might have to try that next! Cerakote are meant to be really good ☕️

When I had a MK3, i would just used Autoglym polish on them each time i polished the car. Also, the lights are not xenon, they are projector lights using normal bulbs

Why do you not have a mk3 now? Very true! My mistake I thought they were.

@CarThought4 жыл бұрын
Mk3 would be an NC, so maybe you have got an NC?!
@SubwayTutorials4 жыл бұрын
@@CarThought I think I maybe have. Hahahaha I always thought the NC was the sportier version! I binged watched all your videos a few months ago which assisted my choice into getting an MX5. Went to collect it today but unfortunately it failed it's MOT due to the exhaust having a hole in it and a fracture in the rear suspension spring. They're fixing it for me and hopefully, I'll have it by Friday!

so the number 4 pad should be the finest grit right? perhaps i should just give the number 4 pad a go first and see how it turns out (not much oxidation going on my car just tried the vax thingy only and got a better result directly) i mean it would be unessessary to go through all the pads if the oxiD is very superficial?
@CarThought4 жыл бұрын
I would just try the polish first and a soft cloth if it’s superficial mate, sounds like you might make it worse with the sandpaper, if that doesn’t sort it, then go for the 4 👍

I just used UV clear coat spray instead the ones that comes with last 7months. the 3m or sylvania ones are actually better.

I’ve actually heard clear coat used a lot since filming, I bet it’s a much more permanent finish 👍

I'd love to see a little paint restore/preserve series Maybe something to keep you occupied during lockdown 😇 Everyone on here seems to take the "Here's what happens when you have £500 to blow on strawberry-scented snake oil" approach and I'd much prefer to see your "I'm not a detailer" journey
@CarThought4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment Dan! £500 snake oil 😂😂😂. I like the idea! The detailer community seems to be a bit OCD though! I do have a rust restoration video coming shortly, feel much more secure with a spanner in my hand and oil on my forehead!

what pressure do you have in your tyres? mine says 51 psi but when i do that it feels really lumpy / bumpy on the road, i have heard that you only need around 30 psi but not sure, cheers
@CarThought4 жыл бұрын
Are you sure your tire doesn’t say ‘maximum 51 psi’? That seems very high. I run mine between 28-32 normally. Usually take them down to 25 psi on track due to expansion of air in the tire. 51 psi you will run the tyres bald at the centre in no time. What tire size and tire are you running?
@richardcoates44714 жыл бұрын
Should be 29 all round for everyday use. They are very sensitive to pressures and I’m amazed you can keep the car on the road at 51.
