My sweet spot is my feet not hurting. Hoka shoes and asics gel nimbus are the bomb. I dont think the sole needs to be thick. It does need to be squishy. It needs to catch your weight. Displace pressure away from the joints.

As others said, hemp is very strong but very coarse. Not very suitable for direct contact to skin unless VERY softened, thats why the inner cotton layer. Definetily a great material for uppers. And I dig the ideia of environmental-friendly shoes for casual use, it makes them also easier to repair by yourself (well, at least the glues are way less dangerous to use)

Hemp has been used for a few decades for "eco friendly" clothing when heavily processed and softened. Historically it's use was for rope and sacks and items that require a strong, relatively rough natural fibre and it is still used for this. Another similar, plant based material is Jute/Hessian/Burlap which also was used for the same sort of products.

Is it stronger than the synthetic stuff that climbers use?
@dra-wiz557
@dra-wiz557 3 ай бұрын
@@kart182 it's a lot thicker and heavier and has to hold more weight that will move around more, also there's probably stricter safety standards too expecially around being fire retardant. Hemp smells like grass, the illegal part of it smells dank. Hemp rope smells super grassy and is very strong, and I had two hemp backpacks in college that lasted years compared to the old Jansports. It's a really great heavy and durable cloth fiber that has a bit of a yellowish tint so dyes look a little weird on it. Still, it's a pretty fast growing plant that doesn't use as much resources to grow as other industrial fibers (cotton, trees). I think it'd make an amazing and super durable cloth for jeans or cloth shoes, but not for softer items of clothing like shirts.

Video suggestion: Corcoran Tanker boots. These boots are issued to Tankers and Cav scouts in the Army. They are not a traditional combat boot, and are not recommended for rucking. However, they're very comfortable due to them not having laces. They use straps, and the boot is designed for sitting or standing in an Armored vehicle for hours upon hours.

I have a pair of kiziks in a wide size (they are not barefoot but have the foot shaped last) and I got called out on by my dad about how they don't look really good. But I think if you're wearing pants that are looser fitting they are not as disproportionate. But as someone with mega wide feet this definitely has an appeal.

It would be really cool if you could cut apart a pair of Dundas boots! Either their Gunnerside 42 or one of their mountaineer boots. The Gunnerside 42 is based on Joachim Rønnebergs boots, which were used during the Rjukan sabotage mission during WWII. As you are interested in the history of boots, these are steeped in important history. I think it would be a really interesting video.

Still watching, but back in the 90s there was a big hemp phase where major shoe companies like Nike were making hemp shoes. I had a pair. They were nike basketballish shoes with a almost 2 inch Velcro strap across the forefoot that had a Nike check on it. If I find the shoe on the internet I'll update name. But at the time it was popular with multiple companies. They were similar to the Nike air mission or the Nike air veer

The biggest positive for Hemp is that it's much better for the soil. Cotton depletes the soil of all its nutrients, and it leaves harmful chemicals behind, which can take upwards of 2 years to recover, and break down naturally.
