My social anxiety is like my legs are tied together and my arms tied behind my back. Then there's the guy with the whip standing in front of me getting pissed off every time someone speaks to me, then he punishes me for it. I'm 36 and still live with my parents. I feel like I have failed at life, that it was totally avoidable and that it's all my fault. I feel like a child in a 36yr old's body.

I suspected that I had social anxiety for a long time, but because it was not all encompassing, I wasn't sure. I avoid being a guest in private homes like attending would be certain death!!! My anxiety in private homes is over the top. I do better in public restaurants and the best in open parks and beaches. When at a meeting at work, I make sure I'm really close to the door so that I can exit fast if I need to, and I often need to. I'm not claustrophobic because I can have an MRI like it was child's play. LOL I'm the offspring of a mother with schizophrenia and I read once that social phobia is common in that scenario. It was really nice watching your video and being able to spot the things I have in common with social phobia. I think I understand it better.

I loved this. I have found it hard to differentiate between social anxiety and shyness- this definitely makes it more clear.

Excellent video. I see clearly that I have been an introvert all my life (I am now 73) and have avoided many social situations for many, many years because I always have felt I would be unwelcome. When I am feeling "down" I feel like I have ruined my life.

Truly inspiring words, I've been feeling shy all of a sudden and I find myself doubting to spend time with the closest people of my life for the fear of being unwelcome, heck, I was already told to get over it, yet, there is not enough confirmation I can't deny the only thing I'm not welcoming is myself

@@BarbaraHeffernan thanks! It’s weird because I feel like I’m not normal do I don’t think I’m just shy but I also feel like it’s not that bad so I think it’s social anxiety. Any suggestions?

Criteria A has been diagnosed back then, for C & D. Effexor helped me manage that. Introverted for sure, but if I go out it has to be with a small group of trusted people. Borderline ambivert

I think in the workplace I see this happen more often than it should. I would say I have experienced social anxiety avoiding certain areas because of how I am feeling. When I start to think about my WHY I'm usually able to overcome any blocks that I've set up in my mind. Really great video Barbara.
@BarbaraHeffernan4 жыл бұрын
Hi: Yes, it can definitely impact the workplace. How wonderful that you can question the "why" and then readjust! We all need to do that!

In school I act more like A. In course, like B. N in an other specific place that I think I'm not capable of describing, I act more like C.

Interesting. I wonder if it would be useful to explore why - what is under the differing response to the different situations?
@tobiboladawn3151 Жыл бұрын
@@BarbaraHeffernan Well... I don't really know, but I think it's the people around me. If people already seems to don't like me very much, I'll be more anxious than normal. Like... with my school classmates, I don't always feel much anxious with them cuz sometimes they look to like my presence. In those moments I don't feel so anxious with them. With then, some moments I think I'm not very welcome, making me very anxious n other moments I feel more welcome, making me less anxious. In the course, I feel like I'm not welcome from most of the people, most of the time. I think that difference is caused by the people who's around me in the place. If in my head, most of people there hate me, I'll feel much more anxious than in normal places.

I think you do a great job in English! I am always impressed by people who can communicate in multiple languages :). Given what you wrote - one question I have is: so what if they don't like you? What is the risk? Is there danger? maybe it is ok and thinking that can sometimes help us not care which can lower our anxiety. Also, some of this seems to be driven by thoughts you are having that just thoughts - not truths... Wishing you all the best!

After the last few months of unusual behaviour from myself even before covid19. I think I might have general anxiety due to work stress. Things that’s happened: I’ve had a panic attack at work embarrassing myself because I wouldn’t cope, I felt claustrophobic one Sunday in my room and I just wanted get into my car and get out of my house but I talked myself out of leaving in worry that I would loose my parking spot 😂👍. I have issues sleeping but this has become better recently because I falling a sleep listening to audiobook. Also working from home recently has taken out a lot of work stress. Although today I just simply left my house to fill up my car with petrol then return home and I found that I could feel myself shaking but I wasn’t physically shaking. I do worry about when I do return to work to the office if my stress will return. #advice
