Is a job offer required in order to get a work permit?
In most cases, you'll need a job offer to get a work permit to Canada or the United States. The company should be willing to sponsor you and submit a work permit application to the government. The applicant is also required to apply for a work permit. There are however exceptions to this. A good example is when you're looking to start your own business. In such a case, you may get a work permit without necessarily having a job offer from a different company. In addition, if you're the spouse of a work permit holder, you can get an open work visa. This means that you don't need a formal job offer in order to get your open work permit. Finally, if you want to expand your business into Canada or the US, you may get a work permit without getting a formal job offer.
