Thanks for this video. It makes me feel a lot better now. My mechanic gave me the option of changing one out or not without giving his opinion. I didn't see it but he said it had a very fine groove that you could barely feel with your fingernail, so I didn't change it. I didn't let it run long when the tap started, so I'm sure that helped.

Get the turbo version then you've got a cheaper srt4 setup in a pt cruiser. I was considering one when my Neon died but lil sister made me a great deal on her 06 Charger RT so I got it instead. You'd have at least a extra 100hp and still get decent mpg, and nobody would suspect a thing or steal it. Would be a fun ride and somewhat useful too. I changed my lifters and rocker arms and my cam looked like the first cam you showed if I remember right 3 different lobes looked like that. But I made the decision to go ahead and use it cause the damage wasn't where the roller rides and I have since put 140,000 miles on it,rockers failed at 150,000 miles,I now have 290,000 miles and all is good! Now I just had a flexplate crack all the way around the flange. But really that's not bad for almost 300,000 miles. Other than those 2 things I had to replace some leaking coolant lines above the transmission and that's it. I bought it brand new and I'm the only one that's ever worked on it so i know what has been done to it!🤣

Great Video!! I had a 2011 Durango with the 3.6 ltr V6. I never had a single problem with it other than the recall on the alternator. If people would just maintain their engines regularly using the oil that's recommended, and ya don't drive like a maniac- the engine will last. I gave my Dad my old 2004 Durango with 5.8 hemi and thay engine runs like a dream- nothing on the engine has been replaced other than the spark plugs and fluids. But I've seen a lot of problems with modern day dodge products with the introduction of fiat and now with possibly peugeot/citroen. BAD IDEA! They build crap!! WHICH is why I've switched to a LEXUS SUV.

@88jopar
@88jopar 2 жыл бұрын
If well maintained, there are many pentastars have over 200k miles. Change oil and filter every 5 000 miles instead of the 8.2k thar Chrysler recommends in the owners manual.
@88jopar
@88jopar 2 жыл бұрын
They've worn out as early 40k miles, on an engine that didn't receive on time oil changes to as much as 200k on a fairly well maintained engine. If very well maintained, these engines are very durable. It is not uncommon to see these engines with 300 to 400k. The 3.6l v6 pentastar had most of their issues on their 2011 to 2013 models. Generally, the 2014 and l8tr engines are bulletproof, with only a 2% or less failure rate. The pentastar tick were most problematic on the Jeep Wranglers/TJ and the least problematic on the Rams and Durango.

The metal from badly worn cam has to go somewhere? Even if replacing the cam, what kind of long term durability can be expected from the engine?

I enjoyed the video but cam wear should be measured using a precision measuring device such as a micrometer. I agree if the lobe is smooth and shiny no scoring and measurements are in spec. Then sure absolutely reuse it...

David: if you get the camshaft position sensor on the wrong Bank will this cause the engine to run rough and have a mist fire on bank 2 on the 3.6 vvt 2014 dodge caravan? OR should I start all over by checking the timing chain marks on bank 2 making sure the camshaft phaser arrow or in line with each other. I have replace all 24 rocker arms and lifter replace the Exhaust camshaft.. and did it by the book like your video show but I got a P000C engine code and P0302 number 2 misfire P000C camshaft 1 position slow response.. So if bank (2) and bank (1) sensor or in the wrong position will this cause a misfire and rough Idle?

How many different camshafts are there? 2 for each side or all 4 unique? I assume if someone is going to do the roller/lifter repair, they need to have rollers, lifters, and camshafts readily available if they need to be replaced (unless you don't mind doing the repair all over again later on).

There are 4 different cams. They cost round $400 each. They need to plan ahead incase they need cams but I wouldn’t order all 4 until I know which I need…..if any at all. But you won’t know until you tear it apart. Yeah I would do all 24 lifters and rockers at the same time
