I live in Australia, and we have a real problem with feral cats as the result of people dumping their unwanted kittens and cats. As a result, we have lost a lot of the smaller native animals to extinction due to the feral cat population. So I am a big advocate for keeping cats indoors, unless they are on a lead, or in a cat run. My cat is 100% an indoor cat. He gets plenty of exercise by running around our two bedroom apartment. He actually hates going outside, to the point of having an anxiety attack! That's because he equates "outside" with the vet. Because the ONLY TIME he is taken outside is when he is going to the vet. Cats should be kept indoors.

Ye I've had 5 cats in the past few years and my eldest two (they are abt 4½ years old) have been going outside since they were quite young so they are fine with being outside but my other cat (he was abt 1½ years old and we let him outside and he was fine) but then he got ran over last January and died. I now keep my youngest cats (i have 2 of them and they are 1yr old) completely indoors but we have a catio so they can still kinda be outside.

Hey Roly! Fellow cat owner here. I just wanted to applaud you for being smart enough to observe your cat's behaviour, and come up with solutions suiting his personality. Animals are all unique characters and as their care-takers, we need to respect that fact. Both your kitties are lovely, I wish them a long, happy life 🤗

Cat nerd here! 🤓 Cats are crepuscular, which means they're more active during dusk and dawn. It's due to the fact that cats pretty much all come from very hot countries, so dusk and dawn were the coolest time of the day to hunt. It's also why their eyes are the way they are. I wouldn't worry about the fighting too much, unless it gets aggressive, Linguo is just probably telling him who's boss. 😂😂

The good thing is: cats are very adaptable. My cat is 12 years old, she recently and unintentionally learned the "super cute whispery meow" to get what she wants. And just like you said - every few months they'll try doing the stuff they're not allowed JUST IN CASE. For me this helped a lot: ignore unwanted behaviour but make sure they know what they're not allowed (stretching the sofa) worth clapping, codewords or the dad-voice - of course something uninvasive that the cat doesn't like. Screaming in the hallway mostly is for attention - so making a lot of unintentional trips to the fridge or whatever while ignoring the cat helped for me. Spoiling them for wanted behaviour (less screaming and such 😅) is also key, ether with food (have you tried tuna?), cuddles or something to play. Long story short: uninvasive conditioning, also time and building trust. From afar your two babies look perfectly happy together ❤❤❤ Lots of love!

Every cat is an individual, and while general advice can be helpful, it's mostly about learning what works for your cat's personality - like you've done! Some cats are just really talkative, my friend's cat SCREAMS constantly just because that's who he is. My soul cat Layney was a chatterbox, she talked so much I'd get upset with her at first, but I got used to it as time went on and now I miss her unrelenting meows (she passed away in 2021).

End of 2023, we acquired a Lab puppy (8 weeks old). September was the 3rd cat, an 8 week old kitten that came from a bad situation. He is orange. Vocal! He will look at me and just scream. 🤣 He plays fetch extremely well. Plus, he became fast friends with the Lab. They are young enough to grow up together. The Small Terror is nothing like my Girls. He is chaos and mischief in a ball of fur. I did have a moment or two with both the Beast and the Tiny Terror when I regretted my decisions. It’s an adjustment,; but well worth it.

I second the orange male cat vocalness thing. My long haired orange boy was the most loud, obnoxious creature I’ve ever heard & if I ignored him he’d just get louder & louder. My girl cat, Wednesday, is a black short haired bob tail cat & I swear to god she was like an angsty teenager & NOTHING would work to make her stop clawing my couch other than squirting her with a spray bottle. I obviously don’t encourage physical discipline but luckily it worked after only doing it twice. (My vet actually recommended it) I thought I wanted a sphinx until my friends new sphinx cat had kittens. They felt like little ball sacks & it was unsettling to me lol. Welcome to parenthood. The little freeloaders are worth the stress. 🖤

I’m all for talking to and letting my 3 cats know what’s happening. I explain when I’m going out and approximately how long I’ll be gone. They have their favourite places to sleep and making sure that they all have their own space. For me communication is key. One of my boys, Monty, gets very anxious and is incredibly sensitive so I try to give him lots of reassurance. My other 2 who are brother and sister, Kylo and Daisy have a loving yet at times confrontational relationship, typical siblings. Discovering their individual quirks is one of the most wonderful experiences of all. Finding what works for you and your babies takes time. You’re an amazing cat dad. 😻😻💛

I'm so glad I stumbled upon this video because I've been dealing with very similar issues with my cat, Soup. He's about 4-5 months old and not very interested in food, loves playing with aluminum that is supposed to keep him away from the furniture, and has been causing a lot of trouble. We even tried using a water spray to stop his bad behavior, but it doesn't seem to work. He’s already broken or knocked over several things and even tried to go into the air vent, which was really scary. Unfortunately, I don’t have enough space to get a second cat, but it’s such a relief to know I’m not the only one struggling with these challenges or finding that the "classic" methods I’ve seen online don’t work. Thank you for sharing this-it really helps to not feel so alone!

Honestly thank-you for making this video, please feel free to make this a cat channel! I really appreciate you talking about going off your instincts from the start, cat's personalities are so varied. Most internet comments with cat advice can be conflicting. I have a Long hair Arabian Mau and she is also very vocal, but I do believe my older male British shorthair who's very quiet calmed her down, in turn He has also become more vocal. 15:00 Also thanks for addressing this, recently I got my two cat's who we let in the garden during the daytime esp in the summer, some live gps trackers, so we can see their territory and what they are up to it makes me much happier knowing they are safe! 16:51

You can adjust their eat sleep play cycle to a more human schedule somewhat with consistent care. If you are doing meals ( vs free feeding), delaying a feeding to night time helps as they naturally sleep afterwards. In a similar vein, a good way to keep them from waking you at the crack of dawn is not to feed as soon as you get up but to wait til later in the day. When you get up and they come looking for their usual earlier meal, use that opportunity to engage them in play. Never withhold water of course. I feed my cats two wet meals a day and there is always dry and water down.

No worries Roly, this is your channel! And after you get settled in I'm sure other things will come back to the forefront. I love cats so I'm not going to complain, they're both so adorable! 7:00 maybe he's singing and likes the sound of his voice echoing off the walls? My cat sings in the shower, and I have no clue where he got it from because I don't do that. I have a Siamese btw, so yeah, he's also a chatty catty! Also cats will hear other cats in the neighborhood, mine would meow out the window or under the door to the other cats in my building (kind of cute, kind of annoying) Oh, the sleep thing! Yeah. Sometimes they do calm down after a while/grow up a bit. My cat is now 19 and he's up every few hours because of his arthritis and it hurts if he lays down too long. So I hear you on the sleep deprivation front! I hope he calms down for you so you can do the cat snuggles soon, those are the best! I've heard many of my cat owning friends say that the older one will teach the younger one to behave better. I've only had one cat at a time so I can't confirm that, but have seen it with friends cats and dogs as well. I think you're being a great cat dad 👍😸 Thank you for sharing them with the world, I follow them on insta too, so cute! Thanks for making accounts for them!

I got each as a baby, the younger is now 7, and even though he has calmed down, he is still definitely the instigator. They get along pretty well now, but they never got to the point of snuggling each other or grooming each other. I want to say for all of my cats, when it comes to training for that scratch pad/posts, redirecting them with a firm but not cruel "no" worked best. When they scratch the sofa or chairs, I would say "no" and physically move them to thr appropriate place. Then I would give them pets and praise when they would use it after being moved. I've had much better luck with redirection for all of my pet cats and all the cats I worked with when I worked at shelters when I was young. My torti is so vocal, I named her Vox. 😆 But yeah, that makes sense. Cats ARE very social animals and when they sleep they prefer to have others with them. It gives them warmth and safety. My black boy I had was just like Globex. Super active at all hours and loved the sound of his own voice. 😆

warning about shibas!! they are known to have a very high prey drive and often don’t do well with small animals (aka cats). even if your animals get along perfectly well for a long while there is a still a risk that a squeak or odd noise could set a dog off (predatory drift). not saying it isn’t possible for them to coexist but i would just be cautious and not leave them unsupervised. they also have a tendency towards aggression so it might not be the best first dog, but it is doable w lots of time and effort for sure. plus, there is definitely variation between individual dogs too! i wish you the best of luck in your pet adventures!

I've had and known many cats in my nearly 28 years. You can seek information on cat care, but every cat is different; just their personality varies sooo much, I could write for hours about the cats I know especially mine. I think "trial and error" is a big part of being a cat owner. I've had different experiences with all of my cats, but I like to say they were all rescued (in my book, at least). Pilikia was a retired show cat, half-hairless, stressed 2yo and had many medical issues throughout his life. Osiris was adopted in a pet shop 15 years ago, was very healthy until a year before he passed, when he started collecting illnesses. Steven came from the SPCA, and no one wanted him; he had a stroke as a kitten when they neutered him, leaving him with similar symptoms to cerebellar hypoplasia. We just got Ziggy, but he came from the streets and has feline AIDS. Steven and Ziggy are still very happy kitties living under my parents' care. My roommate's cats have very different personalities, and getting to know them is a delight every time.

The thing is, every single cat is different from one to another and while doing research is absolutely awesome, sometimes you just gotta get to know your cat and try things to see what works and what doesn't. For example, my cat is not food orientated, and I don't do treats because I genuinely think that it has the opposite effect with her, where it makes her behaviour worse. By using my voice, it's far more effective and she's smart enough to pick up on that too.

Ooh - I feel your pain with a male ginger chatterbox! My flame-point Ragdoll x Maine Coon, Bonkie, comes under that description, and yeah it really can do your head in sometimes. I found that putting him in the furthest room from me and shutting the door for half an hour's time out would break the chat-cycle, but I'm not sure your Globi would accept that! The night-time thing .. I knew from the start that Bonkie, his sister and my youngest boy (a Norwegian Forest Cat) were NEVER going to be in the bedroom at night, so that was right from kittenhood when they came home at 13 weeks. There were initial protests - typical cat entitlement! - but I stood firm and used (gentle) chemical warfare against them. This consisted of the reaction to any scratch or meow at the bedroom door only ever being the following: me opening the door, completely ignoring them - no talking, no eye contact - and squirting a citrussy perfume on the door at cat height (O de Lancome ... but cheaper ones are available!). As cats find citrus offensive, this would discourage them, and it didn't take long at all to realise that their actions only got them a stinky reaction that they certainly didn't want to put their paws on. Job done. They know they are welcome in the bedroom during the day, though - and I think it's important for indoor cats to have the maximum amount of space available to them. Just not while I'm sleeping 🙂. Oh, and a daily going over with the Zoom Groom - which they love - lessens the cat hair in the environment, stopping it at the source! For the 'cat glitter' that's already escaped, apart from regular vacuuming (obvs) the Lilly Brush (just a small car detailer tool with a rubber blade) on their preferred sleeping places is *amazing* as it picks up loads of stuff even directly after using my Dyson Animal upholstery attachment. Even so, the dreaded cat hair on the face thing still sometimes happens - so irritating! Like you, though, I couldn't imagine letting mine outside, so it's something I'm more than happy to put up with.

Treats don't always work for my adopted cat either. I use the "ah ah" voice when she does something she shouldn't. First (if i see it) I will say "Mishkah" (her name) in a certain voice as a warning. Then, as she pushes it and does the thing, I do the "ah ah" in a firmer voice. As she is a real Diva and will walk all over me if I didn't tell her not to do this and that. I'm setting healthy boundaries with her but I don't scream, rant and rave at her. I got her around the same time you got Globex and it's been a wild ride and I've owned rescue cats before. But this has been totally different this time with a female tortoiseshell. Tortoiseshells have a specific attitude that is *very* sassy and cVnty.

I'm sorry, but anyone who think you can discourage unwanted behaviours in a cat by ignoring it has never had a cat 🤣 Whenever we have a new cat we bring out the squirt bottles. Negative behaviour gets a quick spritz of water paired with a harsh verbal "Psssst!" and eventually you can just make the sound.

20:30 I had to do this with my youngest. He would run amok almost all night and jump all over me and I didn’t have a way to shut him out. I tried to wait for him to grow out of it and redirect him but it got so bad I finally started pestering him any time I saw him going to sleep while I was up. It only took two days to not have to do it again. He started sleeping more at night and avoiding jumping on me. Maybe not the nicest method but it didn’t hurt him. Doing it more incrementally is probably better though

I have raised cats for nearly 40 years at this point. To lend my unsolicited advice, based on experience, keeping your kitties indoors is the best choice. You're protecting them from harm, being abducted, and you're protecting the local wildlife from them. You're also increasing their lifespan since living indoors is far less stressful than having to live and cope with being outdoors. Keeping them inside is an all around win:win for everyone. You can also either get an enclosed outdoor play area for them, or you could leash-train them and take them for walks. It's more difficult to leash-train a cat than it is a dog, generally speaking, but it can be done. Most of my cats have always been leash-trained so I could take them on walks. It also made it an option for securing them in case we had to leave the house in an emergency. Knowing that kitty is leashed and with me was a nice comfort.

You should try Poppy's Picnic - it's raw food that comes in meatballs for easy portions. Our cats won't touch anything else. We had one that would hold out to the point of medical intervention before we tried this. It's as cost effective as name brand regular foods. But their toilets barely smell, they never have upset stomachs, they've not needed any medical intervention, including tooth issues (rare at their ages). Truly the best decision we've made for our cats

My cat turned 11 this summer and just in the last few months has be finally become interested in wet food. On the other hand, he still acts a lot like a kitten and loves to leap after one of those feather things on a string.

All cats are different and will handle things in very different ways. My first cat Olive she really took her time getting to know me. She was 10 months old when I got her and her owner had spray-painted her pink and dumped her on the side of the road…. Needless to say she was a little traumatized. My second cat puck who is a Jedi master does his own thing he totally does….. but the biggest thing is is that they are not your pets. You are their pet….. that’s pretty much how cats see it. The spray bottle never worked on puck or olive at all. And don’t forget a nice dose of catnip once a week.

Ive had cats since I was a child. They have all been so different, there isnt a one size fits all. Ive currently got siblings. They are free fed which is generally frowned upon once they get to adulthood and certainly wouldnt have worked with my other cats but they stay a constant weight, never gorge so it works for us (over 6 years!) Just do what works for you and the furbabies

My cats only like the pate wet food. If I give them the meat bits, they'll just lick up the gravy and leave the meat. And I have another lady in the foster group whose cats only like the meat bit wet food and won't touch the pate. Cats are just funny like that

I've noticed the sentiment that cats 'need' to go outside or that it's important enrichment for them seems to be a little stronger in the UK than in the US? (For example, I heard recently about a UK cat rescue who refused to approve adopters who wouldn't/couldn't provide the cat with free-roaming outdoor time😬) So I hope that isn't making you feel guilty about keeping them indoors! My two cats are both turning 14 this spring and they've been exclusively indoors their entire lives. I tried taking them out on a leash a few times and they were horrified by grass! Honestly it's nice that they have zero desire to be outside because they NEVER try to escape - we don't have to be careful or ask guests to be careful not to let the cats out because the cats are fully uninterested! The bedroom is a different story - they aren't allowed in there, either, but they absolutely WILL sneak in if the humans aren't careful😂

My aunt had to sleep with the cats locked out for a year, then she happened to leave the door open and slept like a baby with the cats in the bed. So they did grow out of it (they are 2 young feral males) and now they sleep together regularly.

You're a great cat daddy, Roly... Takes time, but they obvs love you! I have yeeears experience in cat rescue. Each are unique. You have to find what works best for you and them. As long as you're not dishing corporeal punishment (I know you're not) you're alright. Some cats are vocal. Just talk back with them It's ok

The best way to train them not to scratch things is put a scratching post in that area, if you get the time Jackson Galaxies KZbin channel is really helpful, I put a scratching post by my chair and my cats don’t scratch it as much now 😊

If you want to protect your furniture, but also not go through the barbaric process (that should be illegal, maybe it is there) of declawing, you can use the Soft Paws products. They're little silicone caps that you glue onto his claws. They're adorable and they shed naturally when the claw sheds it outer layer. You can mix and max colors, do holiday themes, etc. They're a fantastic way to product your furniture and give him a bit of bling too. Note: I am not affiliated with Soft Paws, I just like their product and have had great success with it.

I second on using soft paws for cats and dogs our Great Dane wears them and it helps prevent slipping on tile floors Declawing is thankfully illegal in the UK wish it was everywhere

I'm in Australia and never even heard of declawing until my cousin in Canada got a car which had already been declawed. Poor thing ended up with weird fur overgrowth on her paws and would have to bite when she wanted to scratch.
@bonitam.792118 күн бұрын
Can‘t believe such a thing as declawing even exists. Another thing which I hate humans for. When they fail, animals have to suffer. And even the silicone caps seem like nonsense to me, won‘t they simply bite it off? They must feel and see them as annoying, don‘t they? Provide enough scratching material and play with your cat, that‘ll help for the most part and most of the behavioral issues.
@BLUEGREEN6518 күн бұрын
I don’t believe in declawing or soft paw nail caps. A cat needs to be able to scratch for many reasons and it’s natural to them. My cat uses a cardboard scratcher several times a day.

The best thing is to trim their claws to be honest, if they let you. I started trimming mine while he was a kitten and it takes like 2 mins now. And he has at least 4 scratching things in the house at any time

You're just describing very normal cat behavior LOL. They'll calm down after a while and won't do it all night long. But I've had both of my cats for 10 years and they still get super hyper at night when I'm getting ready to go to bed. It only lasts about 20 minutes now though
@MizzShanny31518 күн бұрын
They make cat window things that you can attatch to your window frame and its screened in and in the summer they can be "outside" but safely. They have bigger versions of it that if you have a window near a porch you can have the screened bigger area on the porch and connected to your window and they can come in and out of it as they please.

Ignoring any animal that is in a new environment and it's doing something you don't want it to doesn't really make sense, as you said. As for Globex meowing just for the sake of it, my mum has burmese cats, and one of her cats would do the same thing just talking for the sake of it. You do get used to it, but obviously, if it affects your ability to sleep, then you need to figure out a way to minimize that either through play to tire him out or close your bedroom door as you have done. If you want to let them outside, you could try harness and leash training so they know that if they have their harness on, they are allowed outside with you or in their enclosure when you eventually get it. Obviously be careful during the training process that they don't decide to start darting for the door every time you try and go outside.

I recently lost my cat, he was super snuggly. I still couldn't sleep with him because he would aggressively come up and snuggle my face randomly throughout the night. I could hear him coming up from the foot of the bed, like Jaws music but loud purring instead. It was adorable, but I couldn't sleep. Also the 4 or 5 am wakeups demanding food. Just no, sorry. We got him a super snuggly bed that we put right outside our door and that seemed to make him happy.

they'll annoy the crap out of you, but you love them like crazy!!! Storm my cat scratches the crap out of the curtains when she's hungry (or just feels like being irritating and wants attention) I've noticed she sleeps at the same time as me but will wake me up for food no matter the time!

By the time they reach 10, their elderly age, they will become more cuddly in the evening. Ive had my two cats for 16 & 17 and they got more cuddly when they turned 10. I also had an orange male cat and he was very talkative for attention and food.

If you ignore bad behaviour, then how is a cat meant to know it's bad behaviour? Kids and animals are the same in this. You have to TEACH them if it's something they're not allowed to do. Ignoring it won't teach them anything!! I think you are a great cat dad Roly! You've done an amazing job, and those beautiful furry smoosh-balls love you, and that's what matters! And I get what you were saying about Mr Globbykins meowing constantly, for hours on end when there's nothing he needs. It's EXACTLY like when know ds do it - and just st as annoying! Also, I think you should keep those furbabies inside, unless you can get a cat-run, or an enclosed area on your balcony, as it will keep them, and small critters and birds, safe. And it will keep your mind at ease. My cat is an indoor cat. He only goes outside when going to the vet, or to go on his holiday the cattery while we go on OUR holiday. ( A whole 4 days - Thursday night till Monday arvo). We have too many native birds and animals that have become endangered as a result of feral cats (and dogs). You've done an amazing job Roly! And your furbabies being happy and healthy ( and a little loud sometimes) prove just that! Give them a big cuddle from me, and I hope you all had a great Christmas! And I hope you have an enjoyable New Year's!! Love from Australia. 💖😻😘🇭🇲

Hi Roly. I am not in a space big enough for pets currently but always grown up with them. Eventually , when i get an actual 2 or 3 bed (one day): .i'd like to have a couple of cats and maybe a medium to big dog. I love ginger, white or black cats. Sending love and you are a wonderful kitty daddy. Can't wait to see your next video. 😊🏳️🌈🇬🇧 Leon xx

Yeah, i think once globex gets a bit older he might calm down a touch so he isnt zooming through the house all night long 😂💜 also, if you do end up getting a cat wheel and it doesn't work out, even though youll be out that money you can always donate it to a rescue 😊
