TLDR for episode 12. The original has a controversial scene but 4Kids completely changes it. I really recommend checking out the 4Kids version if you skipped episode 12 for whatever reason. It's hard to find though. I watched it on DailyMotion because the KZbin version cuts out parts randomly.

4Kids changes might be controversial but the Miss Magix one with the girl having a breakdown over her voice rather than her hair was definitely the best ever. I can relate to that myself and it's important to not influence little girls with ethnic hair with the original dialogue

I wonder if it's because Italy has a relatively small black population (I think it's 1million out of Italy's 60 million), so the backlash concerning hair isn't as noticeable. If I recall correctly, the reason Aisha was created was because American fans wanted a black fairy in the group.

The thing is even before this there were background girls with afros, but they weren't cartoonists large nor did they have a jelly texture to them nor did they bounce when touched like the girls hair when bloom touched it

I'm glad Tecna's VA is growing on you! I agree that British accents are used a lot to convey intelligence and sophistication in contrast to American accents, but it sounds so good for her! Bloom's suspicion of Lucy could've been done better. She could've been surprised by Lucy being from Popularia at first given their apparent reputation for friendliness, but eventually she sees the Trix messing with everyone except for Lucy and exposes her. Honestly, a pageant episode was the perfect thing to do to discuss how we define beauty and whether or not they should outweigh your skills/personality.

I personally don't mind that Bloom undoes the spell because of how the original did shoe her being suspicious of Lucy and questioning why The Trix were there in the first place, which didn't have a pay off in the original. This did give it a pay-off. Plus, as her spell stated, it would only undo magic if it was present. "If there's magic here, reveal it now. Show us what's real when she take a bow." Also, The Trix were still messing with contestants to help Lucy win in the 4Kids version, they just were clearly having more fun with it. I also feel like them doing this just to play a cruel trick on Lucy was a bit shallow in the original. I prefer how the 4Kids version did it not just to crush Stella's dreams but also to have Lucy end up doing all their homework in all subjects for the rest of the year to be a smart move on their part. As they've stated in the past, they already break the rules by cutting classes and breaking curfew for the greater evil, so they still need to get their homework done to keep Griffin and the professors from getting too suspicious. So by having Lucy doing all their homework from now on, means they can dedicate more free time to trying to steal The Dragon Flame. That feels more evil and clever rather than being a high school mean girl. I love this episode and how The Trix are acting like the ultimate trolls lol. And yeah, the making fun of black women's hair really hits hard for me personally because my fiancée is half-black and was really hurt and offended by things like that. So I'm glad 4Kids changed it for other black women and black adjacent women to have an alternative to suffering from their natural hair being made fun of. P.S. I actually got my fiancée into Winx Club and she is even coming up with headcanons of the afro girl and is trying to get me to do edits of her in my version of WInx Club. Concerning the whole Stella passing her test in the Miss Magix competition, I actually don't mind that. I mean, I like to think that it was thanks to her friends helping her cram that did it and when they fell asleep from helping her, she forced herself to stay awake to study so she wouldn't let her friends down. But I also understand why people would prefer her to fail because it's important to see characters fail and not always get what they want. Plus, it would teach her a lesson about taking her studies more seriously. So honestly, I could go either way with it. I'm glad you're growing fonder of Tecna's 4Kids voice, which I always felt suited her perfectly. I feel like making Tecna British is a smart move and not just them thinking, "She's smart so make her British" stereotype. It actually adds to her character because of how Tecna is very foreign from the rest of the Winx Club (Even Bloom) because of how things are different on Zenith. They don't express emotions, don't get jokes, and don't even know what a mop/broom and a bucket are. In England there are a lot of major cultural differences in behavior from America and other places so it makes sense to have Tecna be English. Plus, I have a friend that is British and she actually said she thought that American school buses being yellow was just a creation of Hollywood, similar to Tecna's misinformation about simple cleaning implements. I'm also kind of fond of this episode because, if my memory is correct, it was the first episode of Winx Club I saw as a kid. But I do agree that I prefer the Undine being called the Undine rather than The Junior League. That was a little too silly. Sorry for the super long comment, which you remember my comments from the past as quite long (I guess I'm just not wired for quick KZbin comments lol), but I was entertained by this as usual. Keep up the good work and I'm really glad you're enjoying this dub.

27:14 Bloom definitely looks more concerned about Stella stealing her screentime xD I forgot about this episode long ago because it was set out of rotation after its initial airing. 4Kids has done a magnificent job of completely removing the racist undertones the original episode had, they have my respect.

For 12 it’s cool episode but besides the hair thing it is kind of mean with hurting the other contestants and making Lucy feel bad. Plus stella is seems competitive mean. Also lol thanks for mentioning and showing the exotic dancer and stormy laughing thing. That one’s kind of suprising how it is. Not sure why it’s not mentioned or how and why it happened considering how obvious they are as adult jokes I think. But it’s funny and happens other times as pointed out online and it is from Italy. Overall if they just changed the hair thing it should be ok to allow again

Man this episode is a mixed bag for me. I am white from homogenous european country and I was so confused about the afro scene, what a flop on Rainbow's side and also Lucy's story seems to be given too little screentime. The things I appreciate about that episode though is that we learn about culture(s) from magic dimension and the girls have unique talents, they all have one body type but different skin colors and two are even alien (afro shaming looks even worse given they have unique hair), Stella can perform pretty unconventional dance and I learned how the suits look in magix.

Where'd you find the Miss Magix episode, Rainbow keeps getting it pulled (even the 4Kids version that didn't do a racism) so they don't look bad. I kinda wanna rewatch it, so I have the full story for my rewrite fic.

I personally think the Stella related changes were unnecessary because they just made her a typical blone mean girl obsessed with fashion and boys just like her Nickelodeon version that everyone complains about. Her og characterization was a subversion of the trope while she might he all of that sometimes yes, she still had depth to her and was kind and caring and friendly and serious about protecting and saving innocent people and fighting evil. So making her one dimensional blone mean girl takes away from her depth and makes it seem like she saves people because she's forced to rather than because she wants to. But this is my two cents on it.

Not sure why winx doesn’t get more reviews. 1x12 would be fine if they cut out or changed the hair scene like 4kids. Also 25:28 um wow isn’t that alittle more than panty that’s showing cause the way she’s laying um wow they really did that
