Do led's Create phosphorus deficiencies?
Have you ever paid attention to the purple petioles in the plant when growing with LED's?
I think because the the light are so strong the it creates phosphorus deficiencies.
LED's are better lights then HID's and will require more.

I absolutely agree with you. Phosphorus tends to be an issue the more intense the leds are run. I found a calcium phosphate really helps. First I tried a bioavaible bone meal from nectar for the gods. The effects were crazy. This unbounded calcium is a huge nutrient buss with 8 total receptor sites. Bring up not just the calcium and phosphorus but everything else that it passes through. It actually made everything more available and I started to get a little nutrient burn. The following round I'm amending a fish bone meal and calphos. Hoping the addition of calcium phosphate simply solves the issue and balances the soil. These additives and increased transpiration through canopy circulation really gets everything firing fast. Healthy strong plants with thick structure and solid bud structure is the byproduct. Dialed in soil and atmosphere metrics really bring the plant to the next level of genetic potential

I saw this under hlg650s, the stems and petioles turned maroon in early veg. Supplementation with bloom nutrient greened the stems right up, some varieties required a bit more (ethos cookies). Some petioles remained maroon through harvest, especially at leaf juncture. Will try pushing the bloom all the way next time to see if full greenage can be induced

Im gonna say no it just makes your plant absorb more P cause it's getting way more energy to make use of it with leds.. I had slight p deficiency last two grows starting the one when I introduced a 630 wat cmh before that only led n its just cause the further you push them and get more dialed in the more P they will need no matter the light type.

@paddington1670
@paddington1670 Жыл бұрын
bedrooms have the most CO2 in the entire house, because we spend the most time in one spot, relatively close to the ground, laying down, while CO2 is heavier than air, will fall. 1/3 of the entire day spent in a bedroom, without decent ventilation, opening a door isnt good enough, it needs to be stirred or have a cold air return involved. Anyway, not surprised your plants do well in the bedroom vs elsewhere. And by virtue of the topic at hand, heat rises so most people have exhaust up high, therefore to have the most CO2 in the grow area, place the CO2 intake at the bottom so it travels up and spends more time in the grow.

For a big engine to make more power you need not only more fuel but more air to make a bigger bang. So in your analogy I would say the sun/light is the gas/energy, the air is the CO2 (required proportionally) and plant growth is the explosion.

Similar to with steroid users - a lot of guys take inhibitors on cycle to avoid aromatase at all costs because they’re scared of gynecomastia, but it just bites them in the ass with horrific estrogen deficiency and results in the entire endocrine system spiking and dropping horribly trying to self-regulate hormone levels. When one thing increases, but everything else doesn’t, it creates very minimal and temporary gains immediately followed by horrible imbalance screwing everything up. Counter-productivity at its best to only pay attention to one thing at a time.

Perhaps more phosphorus is used because the plant is not relying on transpiration to mobilize nutrients like with a hotter light source.....Led's run cooler and make it slightly more difficult to move the nutrients up the xylem because heat is not driving osmotic pressure like w/a HID or even sunlight .......when applied liberally

lack of phosphorus appears violet on stems and not on the petiol of the leave. that's not the same but the main problem why many people are confused. violet petiols are mostly a sign of sun burn, which is often caused since LED are just in a close to the plants. you can check this when watching at petiols not affected (or where not recently) by direct straight light. they're mostly green or at least less violet. additionaly it is a matter of genetic.

PPFD DLI levels should be in proper balance to your feeding process. Test and understand what concentrations of feed work well under your lighting gear. If you're running a 200-400 watt LED with 1200-1500 ppfd set up, your feeding EC and rate would be less vs running a stronger output with 1500-2000 ppfd. Would be good to get a leaf analysis to prove the rate of any phosphorus depletion under proper controls: same strain running under a LED vs non-LED set ups.

I feel the different penetration levels/depths across the light spectrum affects the anthocyanin stress response so I don't use purple stems as a sign of P deficiency anymore after a few years of leds. I look for chlorosis combined with necrosis plus high runoff PH unless it's just all getting purple. Also the plants use osmosis to absorb Water, they release carbon cations and anions into the medium to get nutrient cations and anions into the roots through the same process but it's happening in a river going upwards. That's where conductivity and vpd collide. Sorry if that's nonsense lol
@Ramblin81
@Ramblin81 2 жыл бұрын
But that's why your conductivity in your media needs to stay below the conductivity of the plant, so it's trying to absorb water to balance the solution. The nutrient/feeding is a separate process involving the plant releasing something to absorb the opposit something... Cal, Mag, Pot = Cation. Nit, Phos, Sulfer = Anion The plant releases a carbon cation or anion so a nutrient cation or anion osmosises into the roots. I know that's probably not a word but that's the process...
@Ramblin81
@Ramblin81 2 жыл бұрын
From there the ph of your media at any time is largely the balance of cations to anions in the solution so if there's too much C, K, or MG the ph will be high but if there's too much N, P, or S the ph will be low, generally speaking and working in the inverse also. Micros do play a role in ph but not as much as macros due to the ppm levels of each nutrient (cation/anion) required.
@Ramblin81
@Ramblin81 2 жыл бұрын
That's also why pushing co2 allows the plant to absorb more nutrient cations and anions, it has more carbon cations and anions to release into the soil... Provided the river (vpd) is flowing fast enough... I really hope my rambling made any kind of sense but for what it's worth that's my input.

I´ve been running Lumatek 600w (2.7) LEDS for two years now. The distance of the lights to the plants has to be almost double of what the manufacturer states. Using CO2 has not made a difference in light burn or defiencies. I run the lights at 50% untill the buds are formed, then switch to 75% for the last month and a half. If I run them at 100% I get light burn. 3 feet away from plants! Yield? About the same as running double ended 600W LECs, running about half of the electricity.

I’ve got exactly the same light as you and am so glad I’ve found someone who understands my problems with this light. I completely agree with you in terms of doubling the hanging height as the recommendation by lumatek is just pathetically close. When I start my seedlings I hang the light 120cm / 48 inches away from the seedlings at 25% power and that seems to bring them along well. I let the seedlings develop into veg stage until the plant ends up at 60cm / 24 inch to the light. The plants can handle that but I end up burning the plants when I switch the power to 50% half way through veg and raise the lights to 100cm. What hanging heights do you recommend brother ? Do you keep the light at 25% through the whole of veg and then hit 50% at the start of flower ? Any feedback would be seriously very much appreciated 👍🏼🪴 thanks brother

Has nothing to do with light "type". It's all about ppfd and spectrum. Initially, "led lights" lacked sufficient IR. That's addressed by many newer models and beyond that, the only generalities you might make are that led lights often have better coverage and so "penetration", especially with sufficient IR/FIR. To make these conversations more meaningful, they need to be focused on a spectrum graph, ppfd distribution grid, and environment including CO2 levels. When you're looking at that information, the type of light is completely irrelevant because you see everything the plant cares about. Averages don't tell the whole story either because your grow likely has a daily-cycle with highs and lows that matter as much as the "average environment", each encouraging deficiencies or optimums at various points in that cycle. In hydro/aero, there are also reservoir cycles with their own lows, highs and averages. PulseGrow Pro can take ALL those readings and isn't absurdly expensive for someone really wanting to understand their grows.
@soultrap8554
@soultrap8554 2 жыл бұрын
Couldnt agree more, Michael - greater availability through better coverage and improved spectrum is a big part of what's happening here. I've recently changed from HID to LED and so far noticed that I've had to bump up nutrient levels to accomdate lower temps and slower volume uptake.

You can average 800 ppm of CO2 with the natural microbial breakdown in your soil. I'll normally run a "little buddy" propane heater's pilot light to increase CO2 levels in a small space. The pilot flame needs to be a pure blue flame. The blue flame means a perfectly clean burn. Carbon Dioxide and H2O are the bi products left leftover. It is basically a one burner CO2 generator. A CO2 generator is very easy to build for about 50 bucks (one or 2 burner generator) People worry and go overboard about growing a weed. lol Hell, I use Miracle Grow all purpose fertilizer along with a few more ingredients and get results way better than most. Stop buying all that hyped up, high priced, single ingredient bull shit nutes and grow supplies. The plant doesn't know the difference as long as it's getting fed. lol

Agree pretty much. By time you buy the next thing someone says you need you eventually defeat the purpose of home growing to begin with. Might as well buy the finished product and save a ton of money

Iv seen perfectly healthy feeding plants usually in DWC with everything green no pink or red or purple stems on the entire plant so this colouration must be down to some deficiency 🤔

Those mushroom bags are pointless. I tried them and they literally did nothing to the co2 levels. You would be better off with yeast and sugar and even that is stupid. Get a co2 burner or tanks or run air exchange.

The giant ad that takes up 90% of the screen is a greedy simp move. The content appears sketch when you push your miracle juice to such an ridiculous extent. Drops of imbalance in this case.
