When I learned about Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, it really struck a chord for me. My ex said he was diagnosed with ADHD as a kid and had been terribly neglected and abused by his mother. Symptoms of the two conditions overlap each other in major ways. (See Patrick Teahan on You Tube) I spoke to my ex about that and encouraged him to look up the channel and find help for the trauma. I was trying to validate his experience and offer a way to heal. He seemed to be listening. Later, weeks later, he told me how I'd insulted him and put him down in the lowest way. Never would I have used that info to hurt him. Yet that is how he interpreted what I said. So, so sad.

I knew a very narcissistic person once who would encourage me to offer criticism like this, would seem to be receiving it well and then weeks, months or even years later, he would bring it up and tell me how insensitive and rude I was for saying what I had said. He would say it was “never okay” and that it’s been bothering him the whole time. Reminds me of your story. For the person I knew, I believe he was encouraging me to say things that he could later use to shame me.

This is so accurate! Your ability to explain these people is truly unmatched! It took me over a decade to come to grips with what I’ve been dealing with. I always knew something was wrong, but I thought my love and care would help him. All he did was use and abuse me; mentally, emotionally and psychologically and did it over and over. Then at my lowest he would discard me and leave me in that hopeless state. Then come back with this immaculate apology and the cycle would repeat itself. I had to see it for what it truly was and that’s when the game changed . My desire for him no longer exists and it’s the best feeling!!! 🙌🏼❤️

The worst and hardest part for me of all this was accepting the reality of who he is. It has taken me a good three years to be at peace with it and I still cry sometimes. To The Survivor: If it takes a long time to believe the truth, you will eventually. You will get stronger. I am not done my journey but It's been much easier this time. I never thought I could accept the facts but I have begun to and I hurt so much less. He had told me once when he was stoned that he "was pretending to be human and he feels empty ." My thing was trying to help him see another way of being for a really long time.
@susanparker9877 Жыл бұрын
We don't want to accept another person, especially someone we love, having such an empty soul. What he told you WAS the truth. Like you, I spent so much time trying to help my ex see the good in himself. I failed miserably and hand the soul saving over to God. I reconcile myself to being powerless to help him. He must ask for that help and want it with everything he is, then he will find healing. I must heal myself from this cruel, mind-bending experience.

It really is the hardest part to accept who they really are. Survivors often go through a intence rumination and grief cycle many times over until they finally come to terms with the truth.

When I got discarded the Narcissist admitted he was a lost cause and damaged goods. Why you would date anyone if you had that view of yourself is anyone's guess, but I thanked him for his honesty. I still felt as though he'd projected all his worst feelings on to me by that point, it took me at least 6 months to feel like I was getting myself back. I love this guy. I have a lot of compassion and empathy for him and I accept him for who he is. I don’t know if he’s a narcissist, but I can see that he does have some type of developmental delay. I can’t pinpoint it but I think it’s probably high functioning ASD. He has traits that are frustrating and seem like narcissism but it could just be that he has mind blindness and other traits of ASD that are just because he isn’t an NT. I think he’s emotionally immature because of some kind of childhood trauma. He has so many good qualities and frankly my heart is broken and I miss him and I’m wondering when I will ever stop crying over this. This person was my best friend and he is a wonderful father figure to my young adult son. This is something that warms my heart.

Holy crap, that was a good point, I did think it was sad, in a weird kind of way because they'll never get some of the best things in life, and it's a cycle of their own creation.. I felt so bad for her, that's one big reason I kept going back but that's exactly right!! It's not sad for them, not from her perspective because she doesn't even know, basically what that even is!! So how can they miss something that they never even had to begin with.. they don't know that they chase off the very thing they're looking for in the first place.. That was a 🤯 right there.. I need to roll that around my head for a minute, good call with that tho, I can't believe I never saw that but it's so obvious.. 💯 🤯 (Says "edited" coz somehow I spelled "chase" I put"case"🤦🏻 Spell check should have caught that tho, right? Lol.. I have no idea why I felt it necessary to add this when I changed that but, I will add, spell check, here now, has saved me like 3 times already,so.. lol.. Dropped the ball earlier.. 😂😂 ok, I'm done, sorry) (Omg, had to rewind that whole episode.. 😂😂 Ok, now I'm done.. promise this time.. 😂😂) Did any of that make any sense? Maybe I should get a dog, or something.. 🤔🤔
