I suffered from constipation for years. I finally got it under control by doing two things. First, no matter what, I drink at least one liter of water a day. Seltzer does not count. Get yourself a 1 liter thermos, fill it up in the morning and make sure it's empty at night. Second, I try to walk for an hour a day, or at least every other day. Set your timer for one hour and don't stop walking until the alarm goes off. You don't have to jog or run, just walk. These two things have had the biggest effect.

Love your videos Dr. Berg. I don't know if you read comments on older videos, but I saw a video recently from a KZbin "gut expert" who said we should do a stool transit test. She recommended eating corn and sesame seeds and said they should pass through by the next day. She also said we should be pooping twice a day. I've been having bone broth and green juice for lunch...and big salad w/ salmon for dinner. I never pooped twice a day. I used to be constipated for days, weeks, months. Several gastroenterologists could not find the cause. One said he thinks my body just gives up. I am grateful for your videos. Since doing healthy keto and eliminating processed foods and whole grains, I've been pooping more regularly, once a day. But lately, since I'm not eating as much, I'm not pooping every day anymore. More like every other day. I guess it makes sense since I'm not eating as much.

If bowels are dry and hard, eat foods that will soften and moisturize... like avocado, okra butter, oatmeal and for sure drinking plum juice but the store calls it prune juice which turms people off. And not just one application. Initially, to get started do it for every meal in the day starting with breakfast and do it for days until you get relief. Also move around gently, walk and stretch legs, arms and tummy. Then when you're all better, just continue to consume some for maintenance but not necessarily every meal.

Dr. Berg, I *really* need to thank you for this video. It's about time. I was eating keto with the mass quantities of plant material and that 100% cured my PCOS and pre-diabetes. My thyroid health has even turned around. (No more hot nodules! yeay!) But I had horrible IBS diarrhea for 18 years. Ulcerative proctitis earned me three surgeries over the last year. I went carnivore in desperation. Five days later, I'd lost SIX INCHES off my gut and my diarrhea was resolved. (I just started taking your gallbladder formula and that's made things even better) The UP is just now clearing up three months on. And, remarkably, my scleroderma appears to be in remission. Joint pain is gone. Fibro pain is greatly reduced. Keto did not do that. Carnivore did. My mother lives in a retirement community and she's having fits with the nurse and nutritionist. She's had chronic constipation. Tests have shown that her transit time is FIVE DAYS+ and it's been that way for years. They're pushing fiber on her and won't listen when she tries to explain that it will only stop her up worse. Forget them. I need to know if there's any logical way to help my mom with her transit time problem. I don't know if IF would help her when her guts barely move at all. She's recently had a stroke. (Complication of the flu, of all things) and needs to eat fat to help her brain recover.

I have slow bowel syndrome which means my colon doesn't move well on it's own. In fact, I was going only 2 times a month. A MONTH! For years I was told, more fiber more fiber more fiber. UGH! Nothing helped! Eating meat (made it way worse) and fasting didn't help either. I was also told avoid caffeine. Well, back in the day when Starbucks came to Dallas, I wanted to try it but I couldn't have dairy because that also made me constipated, so I ordered a cafe mocha with soy milk. I had a bowel movement an hour later. Weird but it must be a fluke right? Well, it happened again. and again. I became regular. I have been using soy creamer (NON-GMO organic) for years now. I recently went to Guatemala and they didn't have it there. I drank coffee but no luck. I finally found some soy milk after about a week being there and I was on the toilet within 30 minutes.

I went gung-ho on using a Vitamix for Smoothies for over a year and wound up fighting painful constipation, which I never experienced before . . . and I was completely puzzled tow hat was happening. I was following the healthy advice of getting more vegetables, but the problem wasn't going away. I did back away from my vegetable and some fruit smoothies, increased at times some probiotics, added more minerals and vitamin B complex to my system -- and hard constipation also ceased . . . which only goes to prove that we are all fearfully and wonderfully made, and even though we are basically made with the same organs, we are not, despite the rantings of the liberals -- all singularity created equate with the same emotions, the same level of health, and the same resistance to the same problems. Health experts can only basically give you generalities until they know you personally . . . and we are each responsible for our own selves to achieve maximum good health.

@hymns4ever197Ай бұрын
I dunno. I used to think fiber was supposed to speed up bowel movements. It depends as to whether it is soluble or insoluble fiber. My impression now is that soluble fiber slows digestion whereas insoluble fiber speeds it. Along with exercise they work hand in glove to keep things moving. Also, there is a RDV for daily intake of fiber. The first thing I would do is make sure I was hitting that target.

Dr. Seyfried also says on every video that sugar and glutamine are the main feeders of cancer, by blocking these it basically starves cancer.Meat and animal products are the foods with the highest glutamine levels,yet all these doctors tell everyone to eat mostly meat.This is why it's critical to do your own thorough research. What we do know as fact,over decades of long term studies,is that the original blue zone groups are 95-100% plant based,live into 100's,stay active into those years and no chronic disease. Why not stick with what we know as fact,with evidence to back it up? You won't find any studies showing meat eaters living long or healthy,because there are no legit studies like the blue zone groups have. (*NOTE-The Massai tribe live mostly on meat.They are old age by 40,rarely make it past 42-50 years of age) Do your research before just believing what you hear,even from doctors.

I'm confused. Some of your videos say we should be eating at least 7 cups of veggies a day, such as big salads. Now we should cut way back?
@Drberg5 ай бұрын
As you probably already know, 7-10 cups of vegetables per day is necessary for healthy nutrient levels in the body. Many people have a difficult time consuming this amount of vegetables. There are four potential reasons why you might experience bloating when eating vegetables. 1. Small intestine bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) - SIBO is a situation where you have an overgrowth of bacteria in the small intestine. This robs your body of nutrients and causes excess fiber fermentation, which leads to gas and bloating. The best remedies for SIBO include: • Avoid all plant-based foods (for up to two months) • Go on a carnivorous diet • Take betaine hydrochloride • Use oregano oil 2. Leaky gut - This is a situation where you have holes in the lining of your gut. This leaks into your body and causes a lot of inflammation and irritation. The best remedies for leaky gut include: • Avoid lectins • Nightshades • Beans • Legumes • Grains • Consume a moderate amount of pasture-raised meats • Consume plenty of saturated fats (like lard) 3. Poor microbiome - A healthy gut contains trillions of bacteria that benefit the body. If you have too many microbes and not enough good microbes, this creates an imbalance in the gut. In turn, this can cause loads of fermentation and bloating when consuming vegetables. The best remedies for a poor microbiome include: • Non-dairy probiotics (take it with your salad) 4. Vegetable sensitivities - The last situation is where you have a sensitivity to certain vegetables. If you notice that your body doesn’t respond well to a particular vegetable, avoid it and try some others. The best remedies for vegetable sensitivities include: • Avoid vegetables that bloat you (broccoli and Brussels sprouts are common ones) • Try vegetables like lettuce and cabbage

What about the fact that they say too much red meat will make you constipated because it takes longer for red meat to digest and that will conflict with the bile thing

I never had a problem with constipation until colon cancer...lost entire sigmoid colon to a very aggressive cancer. 4 months from very first symptom to surgery. Tried to get advice here, but to no avail...thanks a lot. NOT !!!!

I always get constipated on Keto and eating hamburger, especially, really blocks me up. Metamucil (with plenty of WATER) always gets me going within 1-2 days. It actually works better than other Psyllium husk products for some reason.

Thank you dr Berg, very well explained, Scientific, logical and practical. I’m so glad you are willing to just be open about all these medical myths about fibre, fat etc as it’s not a matter of being right...it’s people’s lives that are at stake now. Hope this info gets to lots of people

I made a mistake last month of starting to walk 6 to 7 miles each day while I started craving milk each day and some ice cream a couple days of the week for a couple weeks and now it's been over a month since I gave up dairy and im still constipated and with bleeding and throbbing pain. I'll need to try your advice cutting out the fiber because fiber is definitely making it worse (even prune juice)

What if you are vegetarian. What should we eat when we cut vegetables for a month? Beans and less veggies?

Oh wow I've been experiencing constipation during this diet. I definitely drink enough water, but I'm guilty of thinking fiber helped move things along! Thanks yet again Dr Berg

I love watching these videos and taking away information. But I have to say, 7 to 10 cups of veggies a day? I don't think I even eat 10 cups worth of food a day total.

I have been an IBS and GERD sufferer for years. I recently started eating a lot of flax and nuts on my Keto diet thinking I needed this fiber, and I have been dealing with painful bloating and gas for the past two weeks. Ugh. Big mistake on my part! Time to cut out the flax!

I discovered that leafy veggies are hard for me to digest. Also, if I eat a slice of the best bread, my gut gets lazy again. For me to poop everyday, I need to be on meat, fruits and vegetables only. And a lot of water.

Check - have had all of the above. Even the MDs are slowly catching on - my GI doctor and general practitioner have both told me to avoid extra fiber (I knew this anyway...lol) - but it's good to know at least "some" of the MDs are catching on. Basically Low FODMAP diet works for me best...and small meals...intermittent fasting makes me feel great. Thanks doc! :-)

You are so on point here Dr Berg.. I suffer from constipation from a baby ( according to my grandmother) and throughout my entire life. I learned this concept the hard way😳 ~ fiber is NOT "my" friend... : (

I had colectomy over 15 years ago. I had the small bowel joined to the lower part of the bowel (the rectum)5 years ago, I take a tablespoon of psyllium with half glass of water15 minutes everytime before eating or taking green juice. I make 1 litre of green juice everyday, which includes 15 vegies with a slow juice extracter. Of course I don't trow anything away of the fiber. Makes wonder for me, very easy to digest completely, but if I forget the psyllium, diaria 45 minutes later.

I have a history of hemorrhoids, constipation and rectal bleeding. Also family history of diverticulitis. If I cut out my 7-10 cups of kale and broccoli where to I get my vitamins and minerals?
@vlatkomarjanovic65942 жыл бұрын
If constipated your diet is most likely low on fat. I have reduced, grains, vegetables and fruit intake , and my symptoms of IBS completely gone. I had diarhea at least once a week lately. I couldn't pinpoint the reason, I thought it was dairy, but turns out it was fibre. Also lost 13kg and blood pressure dropped nearly 25 points on halved meds.
