I dunno if you're being serious or not but in terms of competitive games MK8D is really quite simple, there's some FPS games where 0.1 seconds is the difference between winning and losing a gunfight and that could happen multiple times a round. Not to mention that it's a lot more complicated than simply pressing a button

I remember in Mario Kart 7 that in cannon glider sections, if you hold down on the controller stick, you would go faster for whatever reason. You can clearly see the difference in Waluigi Pinball as you slowly overtake racers who aren't holding down.

The reason is that the hop brings out your glider fast than tricking/nothing would. The cannon glider only gets you to those big speeds once your glider is out.

I have a question. What's the difference between atvs, normal cars, and bikes? You talk a lot about inward drift bikes, but everything else just feels the same.

The only difference between those categories are the way the characters appearance and which animations they play for certain actions. There's no "intended" gameplay differences but their inherent physical design makes their hurtbox different sizes. Kart is standard, bike is narrower and ATV is taller (generally).

I think it's almost the same. But I wouldn't worry about it. I would always just tey to hop over it, and if you miss, then you barely lose any time anyways.
