So I recently went with a friend to the hospital and now she's invoulentarily confinded in a psychiatric facility. I was with her every step of the way but I still feel guilty she's having such a hard time. (this is day three for her). Your videos have really helped to dull the pain of all this, thanks for sharing your journey.

One time I was at the hospital and couldn't calm down. I willing went into a room and it had pads on the walls. I just didn't know what to do with myself and it was the only place I felt I could try to gather myself. They did use that room for people although it's not like people often understand it to be. I also experienced someone trying to get out of the hospital. She actually ended up injuring her hand and wrist in the process. She was not paranoid or psychotic in any way. This was 20 years ago. Once the doctor didn't trust that I was no longer in an active eating disorder and they locked me out of my room. I have also been in the hospital more than once where they had to battle patients and give them a shot and or hold them down. Sometimes the person falls asleep because the goal is to calm them down ao they don't harm themselves or anyone else. And other times they strap them to a bed. One of the first times I was in the mental hospital a patient not in the right state of mind thought I was someone they knew and had an issue with so the staff had to quietly move me to another location because they caught her trying to go after me in bed. A family member of mine was not ready to ready to leave the hospital and we tried to tell the hospital but they let them go anyway. So of you are on a 72 hour hold you can sometimes talk to the Dr about going voluntary and some doctors are glad to do that

In some hospitals there are fully padded rooms usually for adolescents but like you said it’s for when in crisis or a fight

My mental health has really taken a dark turn lately and I've thought about what happens if I check myself into a psychiatric hospital. My biggest concern is work, I can work remotely, but only if they let me have my laptop.

My own experience: I have been in 6 mental hospitals. They all had a quiet room but only one had a padded room. I was there when one patient eacaped less than 4 hours after they brought him in, but no one seemed to know how he escaped. Forced treatment was definitely a normal occurrence in all the places I was at. Also there were usually only two people watching everyone but they could call for 2-3 extra people for backup if there was a situation. They people working there missed a lot of stuff patients were doing. Everything from just having writing tools or food in thier room to self harming.

Also!! Mental Hospitals and psychwards differ from country to country, law to law. Mental hospitals in Egypt may not be the same as mental hospitals in America

That is very true! I am located in the USA, so remember that when comparing to your local facilities. The best way to know the policies of your local facility is to search their website or to call and ask!

Thank you so much for watching! I really think the media loves to sensationalize things, especially mental illness and the treatments for it. A mental hospital really isn't that exciting. It's lots of crafts, playing cards, and group therapy activities. Nothing like what they put in the movies!

Another reason you can be checked in is for a severe manic episode w. or w/o psychosis. Sometimes (like me) because mania keeps you awake for days at a time, you can be admitted for medicated rest. Esp. If you have a history of suicide attempts and can't prescribed a sleeping med to take home

Ha, ha.... I opened the locked window undoing the ' robby ' screws with a bent hanger. Also the magnetic doors can be bypassed with just a piece of paper above the door... didnt want to go and told the nurse how it could be done..

I will tell u that people do try and escape. I tried busting down the door that is locked and is impossible to get out without a code. They won’t let u try for long. It really sucks when u reliaze there is no escape

It seems like you were there against your will and I'm sorry you had that experience. In my experience, the people don't try to escape because they want to be there. I was there because I needed the help. But yes, all of the facilities I have heard of have similar procedures in place to make sure people don't leave. It's a safety precaution.

I know that iv ketamine treatments are knew and can take a few months to complete the initial treatments then I believe it's an as needed after that my question is did they talk about or did you hear about it while you were there or Spravato treatments?
@piekaboo
@piekaboo 9 ай бұрын
I know it's been a while since you asked this question. Hopefully you've already found the answer to your question. If it's helpful, I have been doing IV Ketamine for the past year and a half. I was given the choice between a couple of treatments, including Ketamine, and being admitted. I opted for Ketamine. It took me longer than the initial series of six infusions to get relief, but I seem to be unusual in that regard and ultimately it has helped significantly. Now I do infusions on as as-needed basis, usually making that decision with the input of my therapist since I trust his perspective more than my own when I'm not doing well.
