If you have severe knee osteoarthritis and are exploring non surgical treatments, you might have heard about platelet rich plasma injections. PRP has gained a lot of attention for its remarkable ability to reduce pain and symptoms in mild to moderate knee osteoarthritis. But what about severe arthritis? Do PRP injections still provide effective relief for advanced conditions? I’m going to delve into the existing research and share my own experiences in treating patients with severe knee arthritis.

I just consulted with two doctors about PRP for my hip that has severe arthritis. One doctor from Wexner Sports medicine in Ohio and the other with University of Penn in Philadelphia. Both said that I was not a candidate. I also asked about subchondroplasty or any other possibiities. I am now referred to a surgeon for hip replacement. Just a waste because I am not going to do that and do not trust the medical statistics of success. Even one of the doctors I saw agreed the medical field is full of lies of successful procedures. Lawyers are always running TV ads about failed hip replacements.

@@johnleca - thanks John & best wishes ! Sounds like you’re doing due diligence which is smart. My father is 97 and can hardly stand because of his knee & other issues. Was wondering about PRP but he’s on anticoagulation & I’m not sure I would be comfortable with him off them for 10 days or whatever.

Thanks for the video. I’ve been to a couple drs and all they have said was that I needed a whole knee replacement. I scheduled surgery a few months ago and then a couple weeks out they said I needed a cardiologist to sign off but you can’t get a cardiology appt for months so I had to cancel. Now my new dr says I should wait because I’m “too young”. I agree with people not being told to stop nsaids when they have the procedure as well as drinking alcohol can interfere with the success of the procedure.

Why aren't insurance companies covering this procedure? They cover strong opiates which could kill the person, but will not pay for this procedure. Most people cannot afford this treatment if they have to pay out of pocket.

I love your videos ... I did some research about PRP for my severe 'hip osteoarthritis' (my ortho wants to do a total hip replacement -- i don't!) ... I've reviewed several meta-analyses ... PRP works much better for the 'knee' than the 'hip' -- is that your conclusion/ experience as well?

Dr Peng, what is your opinion on some of these clinics that claim to offer a proprietary technique to concentrate platelets and bone marrow concentrate cells. In other words, they’re saying their technique is the best but they won’t tell you how they do it.
