In this video we take a look at the sprinting tendencies of 100m athletes to see which if these tendencies link to common sprinter archetypes.
Complete the Sprinter Archetype Questionnaire: forms.gle/jzr8BakT83b1UbbC6
6:27 correction: Gatlin has also hit both a sub 3.80 first 30m split and sub 3.40 final 30m split in the same race

I think an important thing to consider is that a lot of people are just more motivated to run better in relays because they’re part of a team

I think raw speed shines more on the relay while athletes with less raw speed can compensate with technical ability at the start of the 100m

I always wondered how Degrasse's 100m results have stayed roughly the same since finishing college yet his 200m times continued to improve and every year he runs in the relay he goes God mode, even in 2022 when he was out of form

He can run much faster in the 100 than his pb. He ran 9.74 with only a slight wind

The 200 is a longer race so there’s more aspects to improve on.

Degrasse might be an anomaly, like Kim Collins

Lemaitre was a true finisher. In the 100 there is basically no special anatomy for those archetypes wich is strange. I mean for finishers there are big heavy guys like Fanbuleh, Bolt. There are tall skinny guys like Lemaitre, Prescott. Small skinny guys like DeGrasse or Laird, and lots of hybrids like Gay, Blake, Gatlin, Lyles. I believe it's mostly a neural (muscle activation pattern) thing that decides if one is a good starter or finisher. Also saving sme energy in the first half of the race absolutley will enhance the 2nd half. It's a trade off. At the end it's max V that have the biggest impact. The athlete with the highest max V will win 9/10 times.

I like that comment at the beginning. I hate hearing 'The Way to Win' saying that it is better to run a slower start and drive phase in order to improve the back end. But obviously, if a person's start is bad *because they are technically bad,* their start would get more efficient and less energy-expensive as they improve while getting faster. Maybe it just bothers me because I don't see how to improve one's start without getting technically better. Maybe others are able to put in more energy

imo the next record holders of the 100m record will have to be dual dominant sprinters since one would have to excessively go much faster than bolts highest recorded speed to make up for the poorer start which i very much doubt could ever happen

I think you can be predisposed to an archetype so-to-speak, but I have often had weakpoints in my racing that I concentrated on and they became my strong points (stuff like muscle contraction, tendon, fascia). You even have guys like Erriyon Knighton who you would think are skinny, elastic but also have the connotation of 'weak/frail' because of their small joints, narrow rib cage and narrow hips (which is thought to be less advantageous for weightlifting) but he is still extremely strong in the Gym.. There are patterns like with everything, but the individual athlete might have so many different things going where it's hard to put them in a category, only once your a sub-10 guy and have a definite race strategy that doesn't change (like degrasse, lemaitre) only then would I be comfortable with putting them in a category. you also have these types like Matthew Boling, Wayde Van Niekerk, Fred Kerley who are great generalists and have very 'average' body dimensions/good distribution of performance for all of the events.

Michael Norman is also a great generalist. It's only for guys like Fanbulleh who are only 6'2 but have a 7 foot stride length and is a poorer starter but has good top-end & speed-endurance that you could categorize him so clearly..

Would letsile be a dual type or a momentum?
@nxva5298
@nxva5298 Ай бұрын
I don’t know I feel like he is in a different category. Cause even momentum sprinters don’t have his ability. I feel like he would be in a “relaxed sprinter” category just with the way he glides. Michael Johnson would also kinda be there.

He has good acceleration in 100 and pretty strong in the end so I would say dual
