My dad spent his life swinging a hammer. As soon as I was old enough to start working out, the first exercises he taught me were the rotator cuff sets, front and back. He said, even on leg day, start with rotator cuff. Some of the best advice I've ever had

Absolutely zero of the joking matter here, I was just about to scavenge throughout KZbin or the internet to try to find a shoulder workout like this. Awesome video, I love how you're so authentic and not trying to sell your videos with some bs exercises. From one calisthenics junkie to another, thank you for your awesome content. Stretch bands are so cheap and versatile. The SUPPORT while you move. Everyone should spend some time on these exercises, to give back energy and strength to their body which suffers with all that sitting and watching the computer. THANK You, for your wise choice of exercises and for making this video!

YES! KARATE KID WAX ON, WAX OFF! Great analogy! Exercises with arms close to the body don't usually hurt, but when the exercise takes place farther from the body, the pressure on the joint increases (like moving the fulcrum of a lever), so I take my time building up strength in weak areas. I really appreciate your explaining the muscles involved! Thank you! I would GREATLY ENCOURAGE viewers to buy ONE resistance band; this one item will help you increase your mobility and strength; it is easy to store and use anywhere. CONGRATULATIONS on the new baby!

I don't have a resistance band so I made one myself using normal plastic bands by looping them together. Made three sections (6-10 bands each) then looped their tips together with another band. It ain't pretty but it gets the job done :)

Thank you so much for this. I’ve been noticing since I’ve been going to the gym regularly that my left arm is stronger than my right and my right arm seems to compensate by over using my shoulder. This seems like doing this weekly can help because right now my body seems to be growing Improportionately.

Isometric holds and dynamic tension helps. Isometric, just hold a push up for so many seconds, the lower the hold the better. Dynamic tension, get your feet shoulder length apart, standing, pretend you're pushing a huge cement block, then pull it back. Slow and under tension. Whatever you do try to be patient, give yourself plenty of rest time, and don't give up on it

Lou Ferguson is it a pinching feeling in the shoulder? Well, either way, I hope these exercises relieve your shoulder pain. If they don’t, and the push up work is causing you continued pain, I recommend pausing and seeing an orthopedic to find out what’s wrong. The last thing you want is to push forward (no pun intended) and wind up with a tear or other major injury.

I usually never share videos, but now I share yours. Great work. I'm having my friend take some 'before' pictures of me tomorrow to document my progress, because I see that I'm gonna really excel with this guidance - I want people to see the proof of how I went from skinny to buff. We gotta take the pictures tomorrow because after 3 days of just 'warming up' to this, I am already seeing results! (...Now I'm just concerned about proper nutrition / supplementing and making sure that I don't push too hard and injur myself). Rock on!

If you can get to the gym. I like face pulls and inverted rows for posture/shoulder health. I did mess my shoulders up overworking “mirror muscles”. Stronger rotator cuff does keep my shoulders more stable and safer. I can Feel that humerus staying where it needs to be now and posture is better.

I might as well comment once more about a somewhat different reason that I really appreciate having found your superb channel; My girlfriend is def appreciating my increased stamina and energy levels that she's seeing from me...which is very nice for my motivation to continue and push myself...after all she was my inspiration to find something that would bring things to a new level with her. We both appreciate your hard work, bro. You have four thumbs enthusiastically up from us!! (she's talking about how she needs calisthenics now to keep up with me...!). With her, I'm using muscles that I haven't used in years - if EVER! ...this channel is making it easy for me to do that which was difficult just a month ago with her. We are glad I found your channel. Doing the calisthenics has improved my posture and a lot of other things that are much more subtle...she and I have both noticed that I am getting lots more glances and outright stares from other girls ( I get on the public bus and all the girls start fixing their hair and sit up straighter etc, they approach me in the grocery store to ask where they can find something or offer if i want to share their cart, or get ahead line in lol it's great!)....I could really tell you hilarious stories, but enough said. I sense metaphysical changes in me - and I was in good shape before I found your channel. I see that the changes are in my physical body and other more subtle changes. I recommend to anyone to simply jump into your videos - give it your all and don't make excuses - you will be very surprised at how it gets easier to push and push yourself to a new level. The benefits are not all quantifiable, yet you will know they are there, I promise... especially if you are active at all - you will notice a world of change.

Actually all four rotator cuff muscles are in posterior; 3 are behind the scapula and one is on the underside of the scapula. All four attach the scapula to the shoulder, and not the shoulder to the chest. In addition, the subscapularis cannot be palpated below the pec, because it’s behind the chest, not in front of it. So the soreness he was pointing to in the video, would likely be from a sore pectoralis, and not the subscapularis.

Ryan, how would a total beginner (who really needs to do these exercises) find the right resistance band? The ones I've seen are just flexible sheets of thin stretchy plastic but we're given them usually in different colours to indicate how much stretch they have, I think... Yours in this video is very different. Do you think it's worth covering this in a future video? I'd really appreciate some advice to be sure I get the right one for me. For instance, do we need to consider our height and weight?
@MinusTheGym
@MinusTheGym 3 жыл бұрын
Amanda Youngs thanks for the video idea :) I’ve seen a lot of great resistance bands like the one I’m using in this video on Amazon. But if you want my top recommendation, check out Rubberbanditz. They have the best quality bands I’ve seen. And I’m not aware of a way to know or calculate which band in the set is most appropriate for your current strength level. What I recommend is to buy a full set of resistance bands, start with the lightest and see if you can do the recommended amount of reps. If you can, and it’s too easy, then progress to the next heaviest band. Hope that helps!
@AmandaJYoungs
@AmandaJYoungs 3 жыл бұрын
@@MinusTheGym Thank you so much, Ryan. That's a really useful reply! It didn't cross my mind to buy a set of them, I didn't even know that you could. I will check Rubberbanditz out right away. Much appreciated! I was thinking about these exercises only today and how I was going to make them work as part of my day (forming the new habit, I mean), so your reply came in at just the right time. Thanks, again!

@@MinusTheGym OK, have ordered the lightest two - the orange and the red - because I have a registered disability affecting my arm strength so probably best to start with those. But if I can make it work, I'll move to using bands with more resistance on other bits of my body and hopefully gradually become a bit fitter as well as being able to do these exercises daily. (I had RSI back in the 1990s and my arm issues began then so I want to do whatever I can to help this musculoskeletal area, y'see.) Thank you so much for your advice!
