I found a really good post on Reddit by someone who used to work with Max Martin and he laid out the entire stack process. Typically for big pop records it's always 4 stacks per part in the hooks. For Example - LD (C) with Stacks L,R,L,R.... Harmony 1 L,R,L,R.... Harmony 2 L,R,L,R... What's also interesting is their process is 1) Comp LD Vocal 2) Comp Doubles to LD 3) Comp Harmonies 4) Groove Lead (adjusting timing) 5) Align DBLS/HRMS to LD 6) Consolidate and export to Melodyne 7) Export back to Pro Tools

Yeah their vocal stacks are NUTS. To be honest, I always HATED the export vocal, edit vocal in other software, export that and pop it in my DAW. THE ARA integration makes editing so much easier and faster. Now I have no reason to complain 😂
@bnjmnwst2 ай бұрын
The funny thing about this is that Melodyne doesn't require exporting. The version I have works as a plugin. It does have to be recorded in in real-time, then edited, but it's all inside Cubase. I do all of my time aligning in Melodyne, as well.

Actually, I just saw a KZbin short by Joshua Casper, from plug-in boutique that showed how in Ableton live you can select a melodyne as the default sampler and simply import a vocal, and hit edit and it will load it- no more waiting! Blew my mind.

You should make a folklore tutorial. There’s like none out there and I really would love to understand like folk/alt better
@SamNicolosiOfficial2 ай бұрын
I’d love to see him cover that as well, just to see his personal approach. A lot of folk/alt music intentionally excludes the hyper-aligned, meticulously tuned, and extra processed sound. Take Bon Iver’s 22, A Million for instance. Simple SM7, Neve+LA2A vocal chain followed by a low cut in protools and occasionally another compressor. Loads of vocal stacks, all panoramic panning. No time aligning. No crazy resonance-subtractive EQs. It’s just a different beast and would love to see his go at it.

Imagine the Beatles hearing Everything has to be Vocaligned and tuned when stacking vocals I like this type of editing for dance tracks and super pop but hate it on rock and soul etc feels to robotic Vocalign can leave artifacts any ideas why that might be happening

Hey Austin, amazing tutorial! This saved my last mix. 🙌🙌 Do you recommend using a doubler on the Lead if you already have Dubs?

If you want that effect, go for it. I never use doubler as a replacement for dubs. I use it for a stylized effect

It only make sense to match dubs to lead once the lead is already properly tuned and timed correct ? Or does this work different
@MakePopMusic2 ай бұрын
The lead needs to be tuned and edited so it can act as the guide for all the dubs and harmonies.

Vocalign ruins my tracks. It automatically changes the formants of my voice & there's no way to turn it off.

You should be able to choose the tuning / stretching algorithm and that’ll fix it. What version of VOCALIGN?

Same - revoice pro is even worse and more $$$. Timing is off, formant changes, and the pitch correction algo is a total joke.

@@user-bo8ex4ji7nI strongly disagree, and I do this professionally for a living. RVP does require a more skilled hand; but its capabilities for detailed editing are unmatched.
