I feel like the non transgender athletes were holding back or being extremely careful about what they say so that they wouldn’t be labeled transphobic even though almost everything they said makes logical sense. We need to stop labeling people as “phobic” just because they say something that goes against what you think.

The trans athletes didn’t respond to any of the valid points the other side made and it made the whole conversation really one sided. It amazes me that the trans athletes in this video completely denied any advantages/disadvantages that they might have because they are trans. Sports are not about gender, they are about sex (has nothing to do with what you identify as but has everything to do which your biology). It would be like going to a doctor as a trans person and them treating you as your gender without taking into consideration how your biology might affect the treatment plan. As a medical student, I was taught that are differences between biological sex and gender. My school teaches us how to approach transgender health, but at the same time, if you are a trans woman, for example, you are still more likely to get lung cancer and colon cancer like a biological male. Changing your gender does not change your sex chromosomes. Hence, we are taught to approach treatment based on biological sex in certain cases and gender in other cases. The same thing definitely applies to sports as well. It's important to have equality and recognize someone by their gender. But regardless of gender, a person's biological sex will also play a huge role in their strength as well as the medical problems they are more likely to face.

Tbh, the Asian girls argument only applies on trans women. It's far fetched to say trans people have advantage in sport because trans men exist too and they have disadvantage competing against cis men. Also, just because trans women are usually slightly taller and more muscular than cis women, it doesn't mean they actually have advantage in sport. If we want to make sports really fair, we would have excluded 6ft height women from a woman team with average 5ft height. But we don't do that because we just accept that some women are taller than other women. The Special olypic athletes don't have qualifier competitions, they have a LOTTERY to pick who gets to go!! In my experience, most conservative people don't care about women's sports at all and some of them even think women shouldn't be in sports to begin with. I kinda get the feeling that you probably wouldn't shed a tear of women's sports was just disbanded altogether. Also, you seem to be under the false impression that there's an epidemic of transgender people who are just faking it in order to win in sports, which couldn't be further from the truth. Almost every transgender person knew they were transgender at an early age, and transgender people are greatly disadvantaged in many ways, so much so that they even often end up having to quit school due to bullying and stuff.

The problem with that is if you’re using the “some people are just naturally stronger than others, and they should still be able to compete with each other” argument, than by that logic there is no reason for men’s and women’s sports at all. They should all compete against one another. And here lies the problem: women would never be successful at sports again. There’s more than just one or two things different with men and women physically. Men have more natural muscle, more fast twitch muscle fibers, higher bone density, hips more developed for movement, men’s brains are even wired to be more physically coordinated. Idk why we act like the only issue is “hormones” like it’s a thing where you can fix that and they are just the same as women. As an Endocrinologist (a doctor that deals with hormones) I can unequivocally say that trans women do have a distinct advantage. Admittedly it is less if they transition before puberty but still a very serious one. Many because even if their testosterone levels are "the same" as a cis gendered women their free testosterone will always be much higher. This in a sense allows them to utilize more of the performance benefits of testosterone while having less of it.

Do you have any sources on why trans women would have higher free testosterone levels than cis women even if their total testosterone levels are the same? Trans women usually have significantly higher levels of sex hormone binding globule because they often have supraphysiological levels of estradiol from hrt, and that would lead to lower free testosterone percentages than non pregnant cis women. Also, trans women who have had orchiectomies or vaginoplasties would have significantly lower levels of total testosterone than cis women, because cis women still produce testosterone in their ovaries and post-op trans women only from their adrenal glands. Would this not be a significant disadvantage? Furthermore, cis women’s androgen receptors are usually more sensitive than trans women’s.

This was done at a time when the word men meant cis-men and women meant cis-women. It's because generally speaking, that I've noticed (I have no evidence to back this up purely anecdoctal) the people who are against trans men/women athletes being in the same category as cis men/women, tend to already be religious/homophobes/conservatives to begin with and are disagreeing because they already don't agree with LGBT rights in the first place and not because they've actually tried examining both sides and coming to a conclusion with reason seperate from their already grounded beliefs/morals. If LGBT was actually more normalized to begin with and accepting for both secular/non secular people (including their morals that they were taught whether they are a religious person or not) then people wouldn't skip straight to transphobe when discussing with a person who disagrees about trans athletes having no advantage. Of course this isn't always the case but religious people take up a huge portion. Lastly, *I'm not trying to make excuses and I'm not saying it is right for people to think like this.* I'm just saying this is a pretty *fair reason* why some people jump to transphobe. Given that trans athletes is such a recently new topic in today's world (let alone LGBT) and based on the past and continually repeated present experiences today from right wing/religious groups who take up a huge majority of media, politics etc you can see why some people jump straight to transphobe.

Even with hormone therapy, trans women will still have a huge advantage against most cis female athletes. If you are born biologically male you automatically have narrower hips, higher bone density, bigger heart and bigger lungs. This is even if you don't go through male puberty and are put on hormone blockers. If you DO go through male puberty and then transition you have an even bigger advantage. And for everyone that says just have a 'A' and 'B' team (regardless of gender) for HS and College sports...meaning the best players would play on team 'A' and the second best play on team 'B'...you would have two teams full of mostly men. Maybe 1-2 cis females would make team 'B' and that's at best. This would pretty much erase female sports all together.

I would think ignoring gender or having gender neutral schools would be like when people try to say they ignore skin color. You don’t have to ignore something to be nice. You can notice there is a difference and also be respectful and celebrate the differences and similarities. Saying we are are human and I don’t “see” gender or I don’t “see” race doesn’t give a chance to celebrate the positives. You can’t celebrate black culture and their achievements if you say you don’t even notice they are black the same way you can’t celebrate women’s achievements and their power if you don’t acknowledge they are female. I fully support trans people but we can notice their differences and celebrate it we don’t have to act like there are no differences when there is.

I believe the difference here is that many trans people (that I know personally, not sure about others) would prefer to just be addressed as male or female. If they feel like it (or if you get to know them) then they would tell you they're trans. They don't necessarily want to be celebrated or identified right away as a trans person. Most of them simply believe they're born as the wrong gender. Knowing how my friends feel, its hard to have an opinion on how we recognize and celebrate trans success. Also I am not sure what gender neutral schools are so I'm going to look into that, I'm assuming it's (in part) where anyone can try out for any sports teams?
