Never thought I would say this on CC channel but its a fun discussion. So full disclosure I am Christian and I don't consider Darwin an enemy of Christianity. Evelution itself I don't think works against Christianity but like our world evolves our understanding of the religion. Somthing my mother taught me was trust the word of God but be sceptical of priests, her point being that man is falabal and the bibel was written by man, that isn't even going into the different kinds of Christianity that interpret the bible in all matters of ways. Baptists, Prodestants, Mormons, Chatholics, these are all branches of Christianity that interpret the bible in one way or another. My own family hold the old testament in little regard looking at it more as a very loose interpretation of history. Darwin himself (unless I am mistaken) was Christian and simply felt that evolution and natural selection was a way to study how God made the world work, no different from astrology for example. I think the conflict between Darwin and Christianity comes mostly from how people popularize him, using his likeness as kind of a "Take that religion" or being the face of athiesim and science when in fact I don't think he should be such a symbol. Evelution and Christianity can of course be one and the same, just like homosexuality and christianity, and many other things. Now of course some people will disagree with that statement, many Christians (or those who claim to be) after all just look at the westboro baptist church. But that's what makes the world so wonder, no black and whites just a lot of grays and interpretations, religion and science are the same thing. After all you don't have to look far to see all sorts of scientific facts that were later disproven and in our modern world with all the tension going on lol. Anyway I figured it was a joke but I don't think Jeremy was taking a Jab at anyone, I laughed when he said it, but it got me thinking and I kind of just wanted to type it all out before I forgot. the issue is probably only between people who interpret religious text from a spiritual/mythical standpoint vs people who interpret them from a literal stand point. if a christian truly believes the world was created in 6 days and that god created humans to stand apart from animals literally, there's really no way to adopt evolution theory to fit in that world view, which is a shame.

@@null6955 I would actually disagree with you on that, I think it's possible for those two views to still work, one just needs go come to the conclusion that it's still possible for evolution to take place after God created the earth. For me personally I think that evolution is possible but it hasn't really happen to us. I remember when I was younger and I was taught that Neanderthals were our ancestors and we evolved from them. However today it's widely believed that Neanderthal were not our ancestors but a separate human who went extinct. Like I said about trusting the word of God but be sceptical of priests I also think we should trust science but be sceptical of scientist

​@@JasperLane maybe im misunderstanding what you're saying. you're saying you trust science but you believe evolution hasn't really happened to us because, for example, scientists realized we don't actually evolve from neanderthals? right now, what's understood is that we have a common ancestor. i wouldn't say that's all that much of a departure from what was put out earlier, more that we learned more and have a more detailed understanding. of course this is subject to change, but not in a way that would disprove evolutionary theory. its as grounded as gravity. but of course scientists are fallable, and there's plenty of shit they've believed in the past, like physiognomy and eugenics, that's absolute bull, racist and straight up evil. but we've only deepened our understanding of evolution and even witnessed it in real time. anyway im not saying one can't believe in god and accept evolution as fact. i'm just saying the discrepenacy stems from taking religious text as literal vs spiritual. for example, to accept evolution, you can't believe that god created the universe in literally 6 days. but you could believe that the creation story is not a literal timeframe but a figurative one, which still attributes the creation to god. or you could believe there must be some sort of divine being behind the big bang and evolution who watched it all unfold. something like that.

@@null6955 Not quite, I guess you could say I belive in adaptation but I am sceptical of evolution at least relating to humans. I can look at Horses, Zebras, and Donkeys and see the common ansestery as well as be aware of the biological differences that make any offspring they have incompatibal. Same with Tigers, Lions, and Jaguars. Humans don't seem to have such a similarity (unless their is some half chimp half human abomination that I am not aware of, but I really really hope their isn't) the differences of humans is more cultural with genetic differences being skin deep despite apparently humanity reaching all corners of the world 100k years ago. I would expect a little more variety. More examples of the Neanderthal for example rather then homosapians dominating the world. I agree with your last statement though to be frank I acknowledge that I am not imensley uneducated on the topic as its not a massive issue for me as evolution does not effect my religious beliefs. With that said I am quite enjoying this discussion
