much respect to you hvac guys. I'm a pre apprentice electrician and in our program we're learning instrumentation and process control and that shits hard. and I know its sorta similar to hvac since we deal with air and liquid pressures and flow and stuff, but hvac is still different.

Down here in Georgia , people absolutely love to put these tiny little walls around their condensers while also damn near butting the units on a brick wall. You literally have to lay across the top of the condenser to solder or get at the service valves . Oh. And people with pools like to cram their pumps against said condensers . Also. Wire tracer do-dad. That looks tight.

I think my favorite is still an air cooled 10 ton package unit sitting on top of a controls room inside a fiberglass insulation manufacturing plant, located about 20 feet from a 4 million BTUH glass melting furnace. Condenser entering air temperature, 137º, high pressure switches bypassed by the company that installed it, condenser coils packed with glass fibers, no way to actually wash the condensers, both compressors dead. Ended up replacing the 1 year old unit with an Engineered Air water cooled unit. The moving company that we had to bring in to move the old unit out of the middle of the plant, and the new one in, cost more than the unit itself!

ive done my share of aesthetically pleasing work some of the major buildings in my province. there's an archaic cult that still uses cast iron and dwv copper in new buildings instead of plastic just because it's quieter, which blows my mind. If they would rather have inferior products at the end of they day the customer can pound sand for all I care.

A redesign of the wall would be effective. Chain link or expanded steel panels would solve the problem easily.

Several years ago I worked for a company that installed package hvac units on a bank where the condenser coils were 10 inches away from a wall similar to your situation because they did not want to see the equipment from the ground. Pressures sky high, tripping on high pressure safeties. I got in trouble for telling the customer what the problem was. The companies solution, was to bypass the high pressure safeties. Boy did they start loosing compressors fast after that. They could have easily put up some type of louver type wall around them to let the air pass thru, but then that would have cost more money and made some engineer look bad by building a wall around the equipment. Only worked for them one summer. Really crapp company.

I had a customer that did not want to pay for coil cleaning on about 10 RTUs, so he ran a water hose with a sprinkler to each unit, constantly spraying water on the coils to keep the head pressure down. The chlorine destroyed his coils in short order.

What i do i recommend the costumer to remove the wall but they don't wanna do it so i keep on charging them to go there to cool the unit. Here in NY we have only 3-4 month of summer and they do service all summer long.

But the things on top are not hail guards, they are for ducting the condenser discharge out a side wall vent when the units are installed in a mechanical room...
@AKHVAC6 жыл бұрын
Mark Beiser negative, though it looks like that! Those are snow protection hoods for the York equipment, not for ducting odu fan discharge air. That can be done however with a different kit.
@markbeiser6 жыл бұрын
Ok, that makes sense, I was wondering why they had holes in them. The idea of putting a snow hood on the top of a unit isn't really something that gets considered in my area. ;) I kinda like the looks of the control compartments on those York units, looks much less cramped than the Daikin stuff I work on.

Had one farm where they insisted the remote condensers were set up blowing against the wall, they built a window in the wall with the idea it would blow warm are in during the winter to heat the milking parlour.... Yep just blew slightly warmer air at them which made it feel like a blast chiller... Friend of mine went to an ac install not cooling, turns out the customer had specified no visible pipe work, well there wasn't any invisible pipework either, just power to the indoor.....

@michaelstaley99796 жыл бұрын
Great video. On my job we have Sanyo, Panasonic, and Revco ultra low ultra low units where some of the buildings they sit in a room where you may have a window unit that helps to remove the heat load especially if the building is 50 or more years old. Using a window unit is fine in the summer but in the winter once the temperature goes below 60 degrees you cannot use the a/c window unit per manufacturer's directions. Most of the time people do not want to spend the extra money to have a unit with controls designed to run in the wintertime installed. Honestly they just do not have the budget. Like you said in the video this is sometimes the reality we face in this trade.Keep up the good work with the videos.

Could you please give me some insight?....So, i'm currently a full time student in school preparing for pastoral ministry. I do not want to depend on the church to pay me so I want a secular job. I want to get into hvac. It looks interesting and it seems to pay well. I do not graduate until spring of 2019. What can I do now to prepare for hvac? Should I do an apprenticeship or tech school? and when would you recommend beginning the application process for whichever route I choose?... I would want to be making the majority of my income from hvac asap. I'm a little confused on how scheduling works...do you get to choose when you work? is there a set schedule? are you on and off for seasons?...sorry for all the questions i'm just really interested. (:
@slopoke86566 жыл бұрын
Kobe Lovan read as many books as you can to learn the basics at the very least.... how the refrigeration cycle works and all that good stuff..... I can’t speak for a non union rout of the hvac but in my experience the union way is an easy way to get your foot in the door while not knowing anything at all about hvac and getting paid decent money to pretty much show up for work..... I got into the union for a higher hourly wage right out of high school I think then it was almost 15 bucks an hour and go to school for 2 nights a week for 5 years making a couple dollars more a year (yes I realize 5 years is a lot)..... all the other union stuff I could care less about....... idk where you’re from but scheduling is mostly mon-fri. Somewhere around 7-3:30 or so.... that’s you’re “scheduled” hours but during summer you more than likely never get off at 3:30..... the job isn’t seasonal either, in the winter you do heating...... hvacr heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration....... all of those things can be done year round..... also I do know of a lot of companies that get extremely slow during the winter months and either lay off a hand full of people or the people just don’t get their hours. Maybe 20-30 hrs a week..... sometimes it is hard.... I have been blessed enough to not have had that problem in a long time but it’s out there..... hope this helps a little

I'm not sure this falls into the affects operation category, but I've had a large indoor pool system consisting of dehumidification, boiler (back-up), geothermal heat-pump pool heater, and several space conditioning systems, that no matter what or how many times I explain to not store chemicals the room the owner does not listen... We were constantly fixing leaks / replacing units, because of the corrosion... He has transitioned to a salt-pool and so far so good, as there's no toxic chemicals stored in there anymore.

Ok, I am a copier tech since 1990 and 6 previous years of electro hydraulic experience with my sonar system from the Navy 83-89. Go Reagan. I am your enemy as I am a DIY'er. I know my limitations , A man has to know his limitations, If I were younger, currently 53 I would switch to your trade. I get all the nasty stuff you have to deal with but still this video says it all. They were hot now they're cool and prolly will be for years. I try to explain to my wife how "cool' The concepts are, get it hehe, but she just glasses over and says don't eff up the AC. I go to a school to fix a copier with AC off for summer and sweat my ass off to properly fix and service machine for what? two months from now after another 500000 sheets of paper it needs same service again and cleaning, if of course someone hasn't tried to print on a ziplock bag in the meantime. At the very least if done properly and conscientiously, I had to look up and paste that word, your system should be good for years and customer loves you. The copier customer wonders why your so incompetent that you can't make paper run that is soaked or overcome school system IT situations. Anyways I like your videos and wonder about your thoughts on a jumper duct and proper insulation for both supply and return plenums in a semi conditioned space. Vents are closed and I run a dhum. I'm not dripping from AHU anymore as I have sealed it. Ahu looks crappy with Seal tape but it's working. I am a victim of poor flex duct install but am trying to fix. I have subscribed. Anyways I know you HVAC guys are loathe to provide DIY stuff and of course I get it but a little input would greatly appreciated. I'll keep watching...

In Florida bees of all kinds all the time. Mice are usually dead in the attic or under the house. Then you have snakes that get wrapped up in the condenser fan and kill the sake and the fan motor. The occasional scorpions that gets killed in the contactor. Ants, spider of all kinds and sizes I actually was bit by a horse once. I turned around to punch it and the owner said "It's your own fault for putting your arm on his fence."
