Using our Miller Industries, Century 1150R Rotator on a 2015 Peterbilt 389X to lift and swing and loaded trailer that turned too short and got stuck on a concrete barricade. No injuries to persons or property. This was a new driver and is still learning. I don't know about you, but my biggest lessons were learned from my mistakes. I would like to ask that you keep the comments positive. WE ALL MAKE MISTAKES!!! As Jesus said, "Let he is without sin cast the first stone." Please SLOW DOWN & MOVE OVER!!! Thanks for watching and God bless!!!

I'm so thankful for your thoughtful comments. Too many channels make extremely mean comments about certain company drivers. It's obvious that training falls short in most career paths these days. We should focus on helping people, rather than being hateful and counterproductive. Great video, as always.

The company you're referring to is the current "whipping boy" of the trucking industry. There were others before and will be others afterwards. The major thing for folks to remember is that the company that takes that spot is usually the one with the most trucks on the road so they do seem to have more incidents since they're making more miles. It's even more prevalent these days with phone cams and dash cams.

You mean that what they have in common is the trainers, not the drivers? There's a lot to be said for that. And this one was smart enough to call for help before he made it too much worse.
@n3glv
@n3glv 3 жыл бұрын
A close friend of mine was with them, and a trainer. As one of the largest trucking companies you can expect more events, As Ron said "stuff happens". There was a guy who managed to get stuck on a post in the parking lot of a close mall, completely mowed it over, the sign was a handicapped parking sign, and the NOSE of the truck? Now THAT was worth a giggle! (and perhaps even a face palm)

That's a good comment, SF. It's too bad that some others don't feel the same way. I've seen a number of trucker videos where a driver sees another driver about to hit another truck when parking and rather than getting out and offering some assistance, just sits there waiting for it to happen.

This driver was lucky. I work for a company the repairs trailers and we had a customer come in whose driver did the exact same thing. But instead of getting high centered like this, they gunned it and hit the axles. Twisted the buggy from the frame, and damaged the walking beam bushings on the front axle.

I have to say, that I have been watching your videos for a very long time. You are probably the most professional and courteous tow driver ever. I first watched a few years back when two women were in a ditch and the passenger was elderly and you brought the car up and with a police officer, you helped them out. You really did all you could to make sure she felt safe and comfortable as you pulled the car from the ditch with her still inside. I think of the time when my elderly mother avoided a speeding truck in her lane and went in the ditch to avoid a head on collision. Without naming that tow company in Phoenix, that driver was so rude to my mom and blamed her for it and made her cry {Never do that to my mom). I live in Washington and I called them from home and let them know how I felt about it. I wasn't expecting much, but it did make me feel better to get it out, but the company surprised me and chose not to charge my moms insurance and terminated the driver. Thank you for being an example to many others on how to treat people in a stressful situation.

Just out of being curious, you mentioned Ron that facility he was at required the tandems to be slid all the way back, my question is this: Since that is a requirement, wouldn't it make sense for the facility to make the approach/turns a bit easier for truckers to make, or ease the requirement of having the tandems all the way back? God Bless
@Barty.Crowell
@Barty.Crowell 3 жыл бұрын
Most places have that requirement for their docks. Almost none of them have the room they should for backing/driving a trailer safely with your tandems all the way back. Standard practice is to back in to your spot and then slide your tandems back. Some places require it on entry and NONE of them have enough room

Basically the driver took the corner wrong. Looking out the front windshield of the Tater the driver had the room to maneuver to take the gate straight. But being his either first or second week driving, guessing either solo or his trainer was hiding making him deal with it, he drove his 75 ft long truck and trailer like a car.

A relatively cheap mistake compared to wrecking in a ditch. How much room does a driver need to turn? I know with intersections the lanes are 10 wide and truckers have to turn from middle lane and pull out to third lane to make a turn usually to make a right turn. Doing that job with a straight stick boom would require being at a 90 degree angle and extension or retracting the boom depending on which side you are on.
@kimsmart4633

The amount of room needed to turn the trailer depends on where the tandems (tires) are located on the trailer. We are not allowed to run on the roads with them all the way back. They are supposed to be part way up the trailer which makes it easier to turn. Most places we pick up or deliver to require us to move (slide them by pulling a knob under the trailer & moving the trailer forward) all the way to the back so when they take a fork lift into the trailer, the trailer won't tip up.
@Thomas-lq1jw
@Thomas-lq1jw 3 жыл бұрын
Neede room depends on axle setting. As you see, he has the trailer axles slid all the way back, the room you need in that case is enormous. Well, he'll learn from it, no one started without mistakes ;)

Let's see. friendly, polite driver with a minor miscalculation for the trailer missing the rather small concrete stump with the wind blockers. Escapes with Ron's help and heads off without needing to do any load transfer or worse. I'd say that driver pulled a brilliant maneuver to minimize the damage of their miscalculation on exit. And Ron, everyone has an 'easy day' once in a while.

Another great video...people are bound to make mistakes...thats life. The driver did good by, as stated by others prior, not trying to fix the situation himself and called you guys to help. having the tandems back as far as possible makes turning that puppy just that much more difficult too.

Swift is one of the largest companies, with a LOT of trucks on the road. Unfortunately, many of them are inexperienced drivers that Swift "trains" and then turns loose. They have an inordinately high need for Ron and his counterparts.
