Potentially very dangerous with a solid defensive typing and strong STAB combination, but a glaring weakness to priority, wallbreakers and revenge killers. Leaning into Meganium's defensive profile: instead of Leaf Guard, Meganium should get Flower Veil - it prevents Grass-type allies (including yourself) from having your stats lowered as well as non-volatile status and Yawn. Right now, only the Flabébé line and Comfey have access to this ability, so Meganium will definitely have a niche as the only Grass-type with access to it, and it gives it some utility in Doubles too. It's also a straight upgrade from Leaf Guard, which only protects yourself from status in the sun.
@shiruotakuno283 ай бұрын
Meganium should be doubles tank with supporting moves, I've been saying this for a long time. Moves like Pollen Puff and especially Revival Blessing would work miracles for it. As the cherry on top, add 10 to its HP to give it the same BST as Swampert.

@lazerith843 ай бұрын
@@neros_soren Not really Incinaroar rules the meta with BST of 530, where Meganium is forgotten with a BST of 525. The issues for Meganium are the distribution of the stats the lack luster ability and an uninspired design. I didn't have an issue with other pokemon on this list because they are not starters. Starters have a clearly defined Bst between 520 and 535 (only Swampert's BST is 535). To say that Meganium needs a BST near 600 to be relevant makes it a psudo legendary and not a starter which takes away what little identity it had. I believe the spirit of making a pokemon memorable means staying true to the pokemon itself - like they did with Plusle and Minum.
@lief59573 ай бұрын
@@lazerith84 They didn't even really do that with Plusle and Minun though they kinda just turned up the stats and bs abilities and called it a day. A good way to fix Plusle and Minun is to lean in on their doubles inspiration and make them busted specifically in doubles and mediocre in singles. Plusle is no good in doubles still with the buff if we're pairing it with Minun still as Minun has NO redirection moves, so they can just one and done Plusle, and Minun sucks in singles still because its just Shuckle-but-a-little-better now, high bulk but can do little offensively. Meganium was just weird all around, a Dragon secondary typing is cool (not really now its 4x weak to ice and has a new weakness to fairy with only removing a fire weakness in return) but the stat buffs are way too much and the moves don't make sense? Meganium was always about that peaceful life, its based off of the stereotype that the brachiosaurus was an herbivore so its chilllll. Even with the new inspiration in mind, why give it Glaive Rush? Dragon Hammer is right there and it fits with the theme of every pokemon knowing that move having a long neck. Honestly just leave it at that. Give old pokemon new tools to work with instead of minmaxxing their stats, there's no creativity if every pokemon is just minmaxxed to do the ONE thing they were intended to do, let people be silly with their builds.

I was using a Lunala Psyspam team and had Maractus in it purely because I had no other idea what I wanted to put in my team and thought it’d be so funny if I used storm drain Maractus for Kyogre teams (in other words it was the comedy pick). It had Cotton Spore, Spiky Shield, Helping Hand, and Leaf Storm. There was something so satisfying in watching restricted Mons like Groudon and Kyogre drop against a damn Maractus.

The true most forgotten Mon is Elgyem I swear. When was the last time you ever thought about that evolution line? I didn't until I went through the entire dex like a year ago.

For Plusle and Minum. You would kill there parter theme a bit there. First: Abilty - I´d change there abilty so they get a 1 stage omni boost as start that can maybe be done multiple times for one. (If you want to play in a intresting way.) Also "Prankster" as Hidden abilty. (for single use.) Or "Friend Guard" as other option. Second: Stat changes - Have both be faster and stronger. 1 for physical damage the other staying a special attacker so more spped,sp-atk and atack. Also a HP buff + 15-25 (so they can use wish better as support.) Third: Moves - Give both "follow me", "helping hand" and a" protect for the partner pokemon only". (No self protection. would be to anoying if they have both.) adjust the moveset so they have more offesiv options and adjust one to be physical. with similar coverage. Fourth: Typing - No changes only one weakness is very good. (If anything that would fit. Fairy, fighting or normal. one elektro fighting to other elektro fairy. to split there roles between sp and normal attacker.) Like this you have either a gimick support pokemon with prankster (thunder wave, follow me, partner protect). or as team a mini game of guessing what they want to attack and protect with. that would be memorable and unique.

Ironically, Lumineon and Maractus have become memorable for how forgettable they are. They consistently top lists of most forgettable Pokémon.

I love both of them weirdly enough. Lumineon has the coolest water design ever but its stats suck. Meanwhile, Maractus has some combat viability with its abilities, but that's about it.

Lumineon has a special place in my heart. when Pokemon Pearl first came out, i was in 3rd grade. Lumineon was the LAST pokemon i needed to complete the Dex, i had to CATCH and EVOLVE a Finneon to complete the local Dex!! i’ll never forget the struggle 9 year old me went through to level up a Finneon, just to complete my Pokédex. As a meganium stan myself, Iove the idea of the dragon type bringing the whole "jungle dinosaur" vibe together. Instead of making it an attacking beast though, I'd personally invest greatly into its HP and special bulk to take advantage of its new resistances. With the ability to quad-resist water, grass and electric attacks, set up screens, maybe even adding wish (or lunar dance if we're getting extra spicy), I could see meganium being a unique sort of utility tank that comes in on resisted moves and makes an absolute nuisance of itself to the enemy team. It would definitely be cool to explore the more exotic, mystical side of the dragon/grass typing for once, and the low attacking prowess adds a sort of parental, pacifist flair to contrast the ferocious dragon type.

There needs to be more busted abilities in general so that Pokemon don't feel like they need broken stats in order to compete. As Negative polarity rushes to the Positive Polarity, Plus and Minus need good Electric Terrain abilities in order to be useful. Like Plus providing additional stacks of Charge (making the next Electric attack give 3X damage if its stacks 2 Charge effects) and Minus providing priority to both Electric & status moves (useful from Prankster as it would work on Dark types) if it has the Charge condition, while both Plus and Minus granting Charge each turn while Electric Terrain is on the field. Meganium can have the ability "Pure Growth" (a pun off the fast-growing Kudzu weed) where if it uses the move "Growth," its ATK and SpA increases by 1 each turn, regardless of whether the move is used in Sun or not; its natural bulk combined with something like Leech Seed or Ingrain (to prevent phazing moves from affecting it) would allow it the turns it needs to reach +6 ATK or SpA and actually output some damage. Not to mention some items can be buffed to give forgotten types like Bug or Grass more versatility. Big Root can be buffed so that it can provide an ATK or SpA boost when using a Leeching move like Leech Life or Strength Sap. Or Grass types can have additional effects from Berries to make them more defensively sound. There's a lot that can be done to provide otherwise middling Pokemon more powerful niches.

Maractus: “offensive beast/disturbing support” abilities are solid but maybe switch one with dancer or new ability: prickly body (every time Maractus is hit it leaves a layer of spikes). Grass/ground, both attacks stats ~115, learns earth power, EQ, bulldozer, quiver dance.

Interesting approach. I d like to add the idea of the Radical Red developers for Meganium, who instead gave it fairy typing and the ability triage. This not only turned it into a bulkier and stronger version of comfey, but it also made it a solid tank via calm mind/giga drain/draining kiss and synthesis, without mixing up its stats
@riccardocasu55763 ай бұрын
Actually I got defeated by a team using Lumineon in doubles ranked. After the initial "WHAT?!" moment I realized isn't too bad: 91 speed is solid in VGC, 69/76/86 bulk is workable on a pure water-type, has a wide array of support moves including Tailwind, Encore, Charm, Tickle, Icy Wind and Helping Hand and it also learns U-Turn. The main issue is that is outclassed by both Gastrodon and Tailwind setters, but with a small bulk increase (either HP or defense) it has the potential to turn close to Mienshao: niche but still usable in usual VGC formats and a potential superstar with either restricted mons or a more limited Pokédex (maybe with Gastrodon out of picture after years).

The maractus changes (as a real maractus enjoyer) are pretty awesome. I used it in the sun as a growth sweeper. While it's worse than venusaur, growth boosted sucker punch is nice for a niche use in taking out dragpult. With these extra defenses, its not going to switch into a fire type move, but it would drastically reduce the volitility of its sweep. It could make gigadrain a real option to run over solar beam, but that's probably just being hopeful.

I know the craziness in the Meganium glow up was a joke, but it made me realize that Gatr has the Godzilla back spikes, so he could justifiably get glaive rush. For Meganium, I'd just take Rillaboom's grassy terrain (take a turn to set up like everyone else!) and give it to Meganium.

Honestly, Castform is another pokemon that could use an extra boost. Say nothing of a sandstorm form, it probably needs to increase bst to 90 across the board, and some kind of buff to Forecast like extending the duration of weather by a turn whenever it changes.
