Yeah, I don't like having evolutions for pokemon because 2-stage and single stage mons are rare enough and I like buffing mons hugely in my romhacks but it is very jarring to see 90 HP 90 defense 130 Spdef minun lmao. Feels kinda shallow since imo not every pokemon needs to be equal, they just need to be able to actually play the game and be usable. Also buffs like these are completely out of touch with in-game vanilla. Maybe if other weaker pokemon are buffed as well to the point the power ceiling becomes much higher but rn, just give lumineon 20+ SPatk, hurricane and quiver dance and call it a day.

Yea the BST addition was wild, I was expecting at most a 20 BST buff as reasonable. Otherwise what buffs we need are some ability buffs or type changes. I do like the idea of makimg Lumineon into water/fairy though. If I was to rework Plus and Minus to be effective in singles as well, I'd just make Plus boost attack and special attack whenever an electric attack is used and Minus can boost defense and special defense when an electric attack is used (this works with twave wink wink). Oh and when I say an electric attack is used, it means from either you or the foe but no damage immunity so you still take damage from electric attacks.

@Celon5496 ай бұрын
Whenever I mess with Pokemon's base stats, I try to keep them a fair bit more reasonable based on when they're obtained and evolution level/method. I know Lumineon is a legendarily bad Pokemon, but I feel like giving it a BST higher than Milotic is really excessive. Not everything needs to be OU viable, just viable enough to do something is good. So with that being said, here's my take on these mons. Lumineon - For its stat changes, I gave it +10 in HP (69 -> 79) and Speed (91 -> 101), and +30 in Special Attack (69 -> 99) for a BST of 510. I prefer the idea of Lumineon being a somewhat speedy offensive threat with utility options in the back pocket to support its team. So it can still use Defog and Tailwind, but it can also deal decent damage now too and get a jump on base 100s. But I wanted to go further into it being offensive by giving it a boosting move. Calm Mind is cool, but I'd prefer something a bit more exotic. I could argue Quiver Dance, due to Lumineon's fins looking like butterfly wings (not to mention it'd be unique as a Quiver Dancing Water-type). Tail Glow could also be argued since Lumineon's whole deal is glowing. But, it'd just be a budget Manaphy at that point. Also, I'd get rid of Water Veil for Illuminate, just for thematic sake. Maractus - Maractus being more of a Special Attacker than a Physical Attack strikes me as odd, especially since it has a much better physical movepool. So I dropped the Special Attack down -30 (106 -> 76), while bringing the Attack stat up by +20 (86 -> 106). HP gets a +10 (75 -> 85), while the defenses get +20 each (67 -> 87). For moves, I gave it Swords Dance to potentially serve offensively, High Horsepower as a Ground-type move for coverage that's stronger than Drain Punch. and Toxic Spikes for some extra hazard utility. Since I decided Maractus should be a physical attacker, I changed its Hidden Ability from Storm Drain to Rough Skin, since it baffles me why none of the cactus Pokemon have a contact-harming ability. Plusle and Minun - Yeah, I kinda got nothing for these two. They're gimmicks to the end no matter how minmaxed you make them. Meganium - Meganium is held back by the fact that Game Freak gave the Johto starters the same stats as the Kanto starters, just rearranged. My take on Meganium is actually very similar to FSG's, making it more physically focused. However, I made it slower and bulkier, dropping the Special Attack down by -11 (83 -> 72), the Speed down by -10 (80 -> 70), while raising the HP by 15 (80 -> 95), and the Attack by 16 (82 -> 98). It can hit mildly hard with Power Whips, Knock Offs, and Earthquakes now, but that's not its main purpose. Meganium is a bulky support/cleric mon, who's Aromatherapy can cure the status ailments of its teammates. So on top of that, I gave it Wish so Meganium can heal its teammates in Singles. Flower Healing can do the same thing in Doubles formats. I also gave it the Grass-type staple, Sleep Powder, which makes more sense for Meganium to have than Poison Powder. I also changed its ability from the extremely situational Leaf Guard to the excellent Flower Veil. I considered Natural Cure initially, but Flower Veil blocks status for the Grass-type user entirely, as well as working like Clear Body and preventing stat drops on top of that. It's a busted ability that's seen no use in Singles because it's stuck on mono-Fairy-types instead of being on Grass-types like it should be, and it thematically suits Meganium. I think these changes for Meganium would make it quite excellent in formats like RU or even UU.

Leaning into Meganium's defensive profile: instead of Leaf Guard, Meganium should get Flower Veil - it prevents Grass-type allies (including yourself) from having your stats lowered as well as non-volatile status and Yawn. Right now, only the Flabébé line and Comfey have access to this ability, so Meganium will definitely have a niche as the only Grass-type with access to it, and it gives it some utility in Doubles too. It's also a straight upgrade from Leaf Guard, which only protects yourself from status in the sun.

Meganium should be doubles tank with supporting moves, I've been saying this for a long time. Moves like Pollen Puff and especially Revival Blessing would work miracles for it. As the cherry on top, add 10 to its HP to give it the same BST as Swampert.

And the games they are native in, it’s an exclusive that’s found SOOOO late in game. It is very fast and yet nothing can be done with it. It needs a buff!!

@AIDcyt6 ай бұрын
I don't like how you approach buffing mons, I understand it's all theoretical but I do want some realism when buffing mons. So stuff I didn't like: 1. +85 to the BST is completely unrealistic, as +40 is the max, and I'm guessing they won't even consider anything above +50. 2. They're not gonna retcon a type, unless they'll add a new type in later gens, especially for mons this old. 3. A lot of the buffs you gave to these mons just made them a Xerox of another mon, that function in the same way. I'd like it if they're all unique in what they do. 4. In gen 9, all besides 4 evolution lines (Cetitan, Clodsire, Squawkabilly and Flamigo) got either a signature / semi-unique ability and/or move (semi-unique examples: Toxic Chain, Quark Drive, Last Respects, Revival Blessing, Comeuppance). So I think you should've maybe thought about giving them unique moves and abilities instead of the generic buffs. How I'd fix them: 1. I won't be adding to the stats or typing at all, I like to see what can I work with with the stats given. 2. I will be changing abilities and add moves to mons, and some will be signature. The moves will make sense thematically. 3. My goal is to make the mon unique and bump them up a few Smogon tiers up. Lumineon: looking at it stats, it's somewhat fast with bulk being better than the offenses, and moves that include Tailwind, Soak, Encore and Charm, it seems to want to be a fast utility mon. New moves: regains Defog, Roost, Flash, will gain Lovely Kiss, Whirlwind, Wish, Quiver Dance, Hurricane. New ability: Water Veil → Illuminate (changed) (Prankster immunity and dark type moves resistance) Summary: so instead of a Tapu Fini clone (how does Shed Skin make sense on a fish idk), I made it a pivot that disrupts the opponent, also has the ability to sweep with QD. Maractus: pretty strong, can be fast under sun. has some utility moves. New moves: Scorching Sands, Sludge Wave, Heat Wave, Sandstorm, Desert's Sun (110BP, 10PP, special, grass move- 2 turn charge move, +1 SpA while charging, requires no charge in either sun or sand) New ability: Water Absorb → Sand Rush Summary: instead of making it a worse Torterra, decided to lean into the sun sweeper, and thought "there really are no special sand sweepers (Probopass? Gastrodon?), so why not make this a demon with both weathers" and hey, if a move like that got Archaludon banned to Ubers, maybe it'll make this mon at least RU. Plusle: somewhat fast, offensively leaning, a lot of support moves. New moves: Electrify, Burning Jealousy (because it's missing electrons I thought it's funny). Summary: Electrify will make this a little demon if it got an Agility up, means that if you target it with any moves, it gained +1 SpA instead of taking damage. Minun: same as it's brother but more defensively leaning. New moves: Electrify, Eerie Impulse Summary: much like it's brother, but gains HP instead, so can stall mons out of their strong stabs, and weaken them with Charm and Eerie Impulse to make them useless. before starting Meganium, buffing it's stats make no sense- all the starters get about the same BST, and you wanna give it mythical-legendary stats. Meganium: Good bulk with great support. New moves: regains Aromatherapy, gains Yawn, Calm Mind, Nature's Heart (10PP, status, grass move- sets up Ingrain, +2 Def) New ability: Leaf Guard → Flower Veil Summary, thanks to Flower Veil, it cannot be statused or get it's stats lowered, making it pretty hard to take down if it got it's defenses up, especially with it's signature where it cannot we sent out, can now also support the team back with Aromatherapy So instead of a Flapple, but good, I made it a Taunt/Trick-bait sweeper, which is not really seen on grass types.

@lazerith846 ай бұрын
@@neros_soren Not really Incinaroar rules the meta with BST of 530, where Meganium is forgotten with a BST of 525. The issues for Meganium are the distribution of the stats the lack luster ability and an uninspired design. I didn't have an issue with other pokemon on this list because they are not starters. Starters have a clearly defined Bst between 520 and 535 (only Swampert's BST is 535). To say that Meganium needs a BST near 600 to be relevant makes it a psudo legendary and not a starter which takes away what little identity it had. I believe the spirit of making a pokemon memorable means staying true to the pokemon itself - like they did with Plusle and Minum.
@lief59576 ай бұрын
@@lazerith84 They didn't even really do that with Plusle and Minun though they kinda just turned up the stats and bs abilities and called it a day. A good way to fix Plusle and Minun is to lean in on their doubles inspiration and make them busted specifically in doubles and mediocre in singles. Plusle is no good in doubles still with the buff if we're pairing it with Minun still as Minun has NO redirection moves, so they can just one and done Plusle, and Minun sucks in singles still because its just Shuckle-but-a-little-better now, high bulk but can do little offensively. Meganium was just weird all around, a Dragon secondary typing is cool (not really now its 4x weak to ice and has a new weakness to fairy with only removing a fire weakness in return) but the stat buffs are way too much and the moves don't make sense? Meganium was always about that peaceful life, its based off of the stereotype that the brachiosaurus was an herbivore so its chilllll. Even with the new inspiration in mind, why give it Glaive Rush? Dragon Hammer is right there and it fits with the theme of every pokemon knowing that move having a long neck. Honestly just leave it at that. Give old pokemon new tools to work with instead of minmaxxing their stats, there's no creativity if every pokemon is just minmaxxed to do the ONE thing they were intended to do, let people be silly with their builds.

Honestly i would make mega mawile, just mawiles normal evolution and increase her base hp to 90, so that her decent defensive stats actually matter. I would give her either the new ability "double maw" to double her attack stat but makes her unable to hold an item or she keeps normal mawiles abilities and gets an extra 45 in her attack, putting her at 150 base attck. I think mega mawile with huge power and an item would be to much, even inculding the the fact that she would no longer ve able to come in, intimenate and then mega evolve. I would also give her better recovery moves.

IMHO, these weren't given enough consideration from a design standpoint. You ignored & sacrificed the Pokemon's distinctions, often at the detriment, in support of making them more "competitively viable". Good effort, but I'd say "Undercooked", needs more work. 4:40 Lumineon learns it (& only by TM/TR/Tutor, among MANY other non-Fairy types!) as it's a light-based move & Lumineon's thing is luminosity! Not for being Fairy. Its only Fairy-type moves are Alluring Voice former Normal-type status moves Charm & Sweet Kiss. It's more a Light-Pokemon which is broad in type, not really Fairy. 6:48 Thematically fitting how? AFAIK, it's a fish & not known to moult, & I'm not even sure there are biolumniscent species which moult! 10:15 Isn't that just making it akin to an Electric-type Flutter Mane, minus the Special Defense? 12:55 I know this is for making it competitively viable, not to actually be cohesive design, but just slapping on Fairy? Dedenne's wrong doesn't make cute = Fairy-type a 2nd time right, & where's the sense when paired with Plusle's new Ice-type?! Heck, thermodynamics says cold is the OPPOSITE of high energy! FIRE-TYPE WAS RIGHT THERE! The burning passion in cheering! You could then do some kind of offensive Ice-type for Plusle, maybe with a stat reduction gimmick based on thermodynamic energy reduction! Minun's new ability seems like a weird, kinda complex Rough Skin, albeit, one that modifies damage by type match-ups. Not sure I like it. Also, an ability that works best with lots of switching is questionable if the pair is made for Doubles, where relatively less switching happens than in Singles. 16:58 Again, two wrongs don't make a right, let alone stealing a newly introduced signature move. Also, Swords Dance can't justify Glaive Rush anyway, because SD isn't literal swords, it's a frenetic dance (Or in non-FR/LG Gen 3 games, "fighting dance".) to uplift the fighting spirit, per its description. 17:17 You earlier described it as revenge of the neglected starter. Something that takes negative circumstances by raging doesn't seem that great an adaptation; As a species, constantly rampaging is not often a sustainable strategy.
