I went shopping with my sister and I didn't realize she was having a panic attack from having to interact with sales associates until I asked her to ask one a question and she couldn't do it. She had been going through it the whole time and I hadn't know. From then on I learnt and noticed her signals and things she did when she was having one.

Signals!!! I am so glad she has a sister like you that figured it out💜It is a God send and then we don’t have to try and explain (we’ll have the time we can’t explain). I have left the store before in a panic attack like that. Thx for being one of those people who are observant and help:)

Watching my mum have a panic attack was the worst night of my life. Really scary. Can't imagine how it must have been for her and she still came later to comfort me.

@Cuddle bunny you prob won’t see this- but if you do- I want to thank you for posting this:) u made me cry bc I don’t feel so bad now. I’m a mom and when my son was younger I didn’t know how to step away when I had panic attacks- and my son was so loving and caring but I still feel so bad and (guilty) that he had to watch me bc I know they were scary to watch- your mom is supposed to have it all together (until we realize moms don’t:). Even though my husband (who is his dad too) was there I I still feel bad. Sometimes I would be triggered from abuse from when I was a kid- and I looked like the person on the left… but sometimes I would completely zone out like the person on the right. So. Thanks for recognizing us moms. I’m sorry you had too watch that too. Much ❤️ love and best of luck to you:) Btw- he’s older now and has said it is ok that he knew I was having such a hard time, not to feel bad that it was very scary but not to feel bad that he knows I did my best. I just want you to know ….it means the world when your kid or another persons kid says just what you did. It makes us feel human and we give big hugs when we find out that you survived and still care.(by kid I mean someone’s kid- you could be an adult and still someone’s kid😉)

I really appreciate that you show what panic attacks can look like in different ways. Just because we look ok to someone does not mean we are ok. I try to remember this with other people too, bc it’s easy to forget. I really love your channel and that you put yourself out there to explain things like stigma and especially the medical field. Patients just assume I am ok and I am not hurting physically or mentally. I’m not a Dr. But I am in the medical field. Thank you again for posting what you do- you help us all feel a little bit more “ok” with ourselves I think☺️

The first time when I got a panic attack was when I was in a parent-teacher-student (don't know if you call it that I'm a swede) meeting when I was eight, and I remember so vividly feeling like I was outside of my body. It was so bemusing that I got scared, yet I couldn't explain what I was feeling so I tried to keep it down. After the meeting I was still very shocked and afraid, I didn't know what to do with myself. Even today when I get these out-of-reality feelings I don't know what to do.

Yeah I've had some like the former and some like the latter. I remember feeling the symptoms but not outwardly showing them and when I tried to work I couldn't even understand or hear the person's order. I then took my headset of anf looked at my shift leader who quickly realized that I was freaking out. They put me in the back. Great day. The feeling went away hours later. It can always be worse and Jesus always has my back anyway. Great video and the song switch was great too.

I was trying to do a stunt as a cheerleader and I was a flyer, (BIG part of story.) We we’re doing a tuck (holding you up really high but not above the head.) But instead of standing up I just stood there squatting, they put me down. But I couldn’t feel my body at all! That normally happens when I pass out, I got scared and started crying in front of the whole cheer squad 😅 I now realise that it was a panic attack.

I remember a few of my panic attacks, im pretty sure ive only had like 3 or 4 but still, the first panic attack ive had was due to being overwhelmed, the police were at the door, let me remind you that i have phonophobia, there were sirens , yelling and alot of commotion, so i ran the the room i shared with my older cousin and sat on the bed with my knees to my chest, i was shaking horribly and i had shortness of breath, my vision was practically running across the room. The other times were because of the loud thunder outside, the second time i was on the couch at night and there was loud thunder, it was pretty obvious there was something wrong with me but no one in the house even looked up to help me :/.

It is just like that: you feel that you don't really exist, you feel that you are trapped in some unreal world and you are not able to ever get out of it, you have feeling that you will wake up in some other dimension or just in some true world after all this years and maybe lose all your relatives and people you love just because they won't exist anymore in that other world after you wake up. Only people with panic/derealisation disorder will understand. I also have to mention that I didn't want to say that some other problems people are facing with aren't problems. Not at all. As the video says, there are many types of panic attacks and every single problem about it is hard on its way. I hope that every single man and woman on this planet manage to fight their mental illness, whatever it is. I wish you all luck my friends.... And also: Thank you doctor for posting this very useful and interessting video. You as a doctor really help people face their mental problems and you don't know how much you make their life happier and better. And as I always heard from others: „Not just the body health is important, do not forget your head. If you are sick in the head then you are lost in this world”.

I suffer from panic attacks, usually because of overstimulation. Usually it's the kind where I cry and shake uncontrollably, can't breathe well and start feeling like I just had a heart attack, but I've had one panic attack like that too. It was because of a nightmare where I felt like my body was getting crushed. Fucked with my head for a few months and kept having that nightmare following a panic attack a few times. It was weird.

This is so important. Also, I experience symptoms in the first one but still look like the second one most of the time unless it’s extremely severe (and then I start crying and hyperventilating). I have severe anxiety, depression, PTSD, CPTSD, plus I’m autistic. Because of how I got my PTSD, my workplace is full of triggers, so I’ve gotten extremely good at “hiding” panic attacks.

When you have PTSD …. I’ve had most of those panic attack symptoms. Hyperventilating, uncontrollable crying, freaking out, dissociation starting at level 1 out of of 10, ( it’s subtle and not noticeable at first), and unable to function for up to 30 minutes. Thanks why I need a and have a service dog! She makes it easier to do my day without fear of going thru that alone grocery store, other public places, home, & traveling. She’s got me safe and secure. ❤ PTSD episodes are over faster and can be less severe with her alerting me ahead of time and treating the episodes with Deep Pressure Therapy. ( DPT ) Rescue medication help too, but I have to be careful if I have to drive because of a drowsy side effect. I’ve done EMDR For trauma and it’s helped. I still need to re continue after stopping for a year. I’m not done. It’s definitely hard and not enjoyable doing EMDR, but the results are very worth it.

I've suffered from panic disorder since I was 11. NOBODY knows unless I tell them I'm having a panic attack. Somewhere in my 20's I began just letting them go while I continued with whatever I was doing. Probably once a year, one catches me by surprise and if I'm around people, I just ask for 10min.

I love this. They started at 11 and I’m 36. They never stopped, I just cope better. And that second one? That’s me at work. My students won’t know I’m having one. And they should t, because they should feel I’m the stable and constant in the room. I’ve learned to mask very, very well. And over time the physical symptoms, even when not at work, have become much less noticeable. It doesn’t make them any less brutal, but it does give me confidence that I can handle it. And it also helps to be able to remind myself that I’ve had probably thousands and maybe 50 of those were obvious in public. When it got to the point where I wouldn’t leave the house I accepted the CBT was my best ally. Everyone is different.

For me, I get chest pain, racing heart, shakiness, worry, and it feels like I’m gonna die at any moment. It feels like nothing is real in the moment..

I have both types. The second type is the scariest one for me to go through. When I have one like the first type I just accept that I'm going to die and that seems to help the attack pass.

The first is a panic attack and the second is an anxiety attack. Similar but both different.

When I have a panic attack/panic attacks I usually get this…. 1. Shaking 2. Breathing really fast - and thinking you can’t breath 3. Having anxiety - and thinking about bad stuff and trauma 4. U probably will cry and sob a lot 5. Feeling scared like it’s the end of the world And panic attacks just come randomly depending if u have bad and scaring thoughts as well as trauma and anxiety Also if you got a panic attack or more then one of them it helps if you fidget with your finger or count to three (fidget - crack fingers and other stuff) (count to three and then take three breaths) another thing it’s better if your with someone cause they can help you calm down

I suffered from a severe panic disorder all throughout college and after I moved to California after college. It’s impossible to overstate how debilitating it was, and having had a couple of bad experiences when telling friends who didn’t understand that level of anxiety, I was perpetually exhausted by trying to keep it to myself, or invent a new excuse to get out of plans where I didn’t feel I had 100% control. When the panic attacks first started, and for years after, the “panic” was always focused on something physical, in particular that I was suffocating. One day it was like a switch flipped and the focus of my anxiety attacks suddenly became centered around the “panic” that I was going insane. It was the most horrendous, terrifying suffering. If you know, you KNOW. After years of resistance, I finally agreed to take an SSRI (Zoloft), and within two weeks, my panic attacks completely disappeared. It was like being let out of prison. Medication isn’t right for everyone and isn’t available to everyone, so if you fall into this category I cannot urge too strenuously to get your hands on a copy of any of Dr Claire Weekes’s books on anxiety and panic disorder. They will make you feel safe, relieved and profoundly understood while you work on your own solution, whatever that may be.

I have learned that a lot of kids in my grade have panic attacks frequently. Although parents doubt us we can have a massive panic attack in the middle of a test and act normal. Hiding emotions is one of the things I’m best at. Sorry for everyone who has lots of panic attacks. They suck

I suffer from anxiety, depression, s3lf h@rm, su!c!d@l ideation, and am currently hospitalized for my e@ting d!sorder. I have been struggling with these plus Autism and ADHD for almost my entire life. I have just spent the past 2 years battling every aspect of my mental illness. I was in Hospitals and residentials and after getting everything down exept my ED, I'm working on that now. Know that you are NOT alone! This is a life long journey but you can take control back in your life and make things manageable! And you do not have to do this alone! I am a proud su!c!de surviver and could have missed so much but now I am actually living life and looking forward for what's to come! I'm having a minor setback in a life of joy and wonder! Never be afraid to ask for help! It does get better and you are not alone!
