Shelters: 1.) cut down on windchill 2.) help keep you/gear dry (important to avoid hypothermia) 3.) can help trap heat (from body heat, or external sources like in the Kochanski Supershelter) 4.) morale (psychological comfort) 5.) lower your signature (by not requiring a fire, which signals likely human presence) You can survive with a fire, but you won't be comfortable and won't sleep well when you're needing to tend it often. And without sufficient rest, you are likely to make poor decisions, have slower reactions, get injured, etc.

Another suggestion is the litefighter Fido. It cost $605. It is multicam, a 3 season tent l, however, it comes with a mesh cover, converting it to a fourth season tent and snow/sand anchors are also included. The Fido is the civilian version of the military issue.

Another quality video mate. I have the old French army two piece F1 tent. It's heavy but had it out in -10c and was comfortable enough. The fly makes an excellent tarp on its own.

Another awesome presentation, Mike, thank you! Appears to be a well-designed tent system. Question; tell us what boots you are wearing, and available where, and do they stay warm? That's one of my main problems with wintertime bush hikes and camps. Thanks for your time. Cheers!

Great video as always. I have a question. Have you tried hammering the pegs in with a rubber, plastic or wooden mallet to reduce the metal on metal noise signature of a metal hammer? I am also wondering how well they would work to penetrate the frozen ground?

I switched to a aquaquest tarp that I make a low profile shelter from I can actually get out of quickly and quietly then I have a kifaru Doobie blanket instead of a sleeping bag and it's insanely warm and just big enough to wrap around me works to -20f

Hello Mr. Echo Mike! I've been absolutely binging your videos in the past couple of days and i absolutely love them. I was wondering tho, as you have been to the milsim west event, were there any skills in airsoft that you find useful could in a prepared citizen context? Thanks for your time and attention!

Did I hear correctly that you're going to be doing an overnight video in that tent? I'd be interested in your thoughts and opinions on DD Hammocks' Frontline Hammock Tent system. Perhaps not as an service piece of gear, but as adventuring gear. I keep thinking about what type of gear that I'd like to see from you. If you were to produce one. Now with the understanding that people are watching and I may stumble upon something not yet revealed. Ha ha ha A 100% wool shemagh or a piece of gear that is pragmatic and everyone should have/carry with them seems in theme for your channel and would fill a niche not yet addressed in the adventurer, minuteman, bushcrafter, and explorer community. Everyone offers shirts and hats, but a great sock company??? Ha ha ha we always need high quality socks!

Off topic but ya'll seen the L85 kits coming in or have been coming in or at least what Forgotten Weapons showed at Shot Show for BRN 180 uppers? We gonna have an Echo Mike L85 brigade or what? If they work on the Gen 3 upper I may get!

Which they just told me with a diff endcap and cheek piece it will but the left side charging handle might be awkard but the Gen 2.5 will still be in production lol

So you bought a fancy hybird dome/pup tent? 6lbs isn't too bad, but for $700 you could have had a titanium stove and hot tent.
@CzechSixTv9 күн бұрын
But then you'd need to pack the stove and potentially fuel as well. You won't always be guaranteed to have fuel(dry wood) available in the kind of places this tent is intended to be used.

Unfortunately, your average citizen can't justify a $600 tent for 4th season camping. How long will this tent last, with most civilians using it 4-10 times per year? This tent is the weight of other 4 person 3-season tents, and costs 2-4x as much. I think it would be better to invest first in good clothing layer systems before spending this much on a tent. $600 in quality clothing layers for all weather is going to get used way more, and last way longer. Why not just use a 3-season tent with the right clothing layers?
@Echo_Mike6 күн бұрын
@@ninja5672 because a good 3 season will cost the same
@bricketdabrown96073 күн бұрын
3 season tents often have way to much mesh or ventilation that even with proper gear won’t shed heavy snow or the wind cuts clean through and gear or not you will be cold. I’ve cold tented down to -20 with a good 4th season tent and was snug. Done it with a 3 season and wasn’t having a good time with issues mentioned above on the mesh.
