This topic is extremely relevant to me atm. The 'T' analogy for building your skillset was enlightening. Thanks for sharing, guys!

It is good to know that creating shaders It could help to get a Job, I have spent a lot of time since 2014 creating shaders in unreal for my game, creating your own game and designing the characters It is hard, but From 2013 I have improved a lot designing characters, I can't consider myself a concept 3d artist, so It is real if you are starting in 3d always use pre-made concept art, that It is the only thing that help me to grow, and that helps a lot to concept characters by yourself too, so the advice they give you It is so important.

So for now the purpose of making 3d characters/ digital humans is for video games. OK, some goes into film, but mosty it's into video games. Also, since it's only used for video games, the industry is small and there are not a lot of vacancies in comparison of amount of people who would like to work as a 3d character modelers. do you see in the future some other fields, industries where 3d characters could be used ?

A few real time applications I imagine making use of characters will be educational & training programs as we improve and adapt AR + VR tech.

@@hokaine_ one scientific discovery that stretches over many pages, and is painted on several "examples". A lot of words not related to the case and emotional conclusions, which allegedly point only to this one thought, they say, look, this example once again confirms it. The idea is clear from the first pages, further reading is like waiting for something new, but no, everything is the same in different words. Boring.

In the studio I worked at I was the concept artist and character artist and then outsourced the low poly and UVing. I feel like I don't fit into the studio machine quite easily now since my category of the workflow is quite different to most. Is this a new department of concept 3D? I feel like this isn't a new job title however

The title is just concept artist really although there is no industry standardization for titles.

Siamak... i think i have a question. Do 3d character artists need to know how to rig and skin very well? what if someone is good at creating characters... but bad at these things? will this cost them jobs? is rigging and skinning a normal and agreed upon requirement? You're doing amazing with these videos. I watch a bunch of them. Please answer more technical requirement questions (character art related) I believe you have the right attitude and experience to provide great knowledge based on this........

You mostly don't. 9 times out of 10, there are dedicated developers for these tasks. So, no it won't cost you jobs :)
