I do definitely think the meteor was THE meteor that caused the mass extinction, because the whole world didn't die off instantly. It was chain reactions of food webs collapsing and drastic weather changes that followed; that's why the lake was dried up and why rockslides blocked off the valley. It makes the ending bittersweet, that the herd and our protags made it to the nesting grounds, completely unaware that the world is in the process of ending.

It's very much hinted at that the meteor was actually an extinction-level event because it didn't just wipe out the lemur's island, it affected everything and everyone, which is why an entire lake was dried up, Eema/Baylene are surprised/relieved to see that the nesting grounds are still intact, and why their regular way in is blocked off. Well. When you think about it: => Yeah, Bruton sacrificed himself to save the Aladar and Co. …but that’s also what *Kron said he should’ve done* so the Carnotaurs wouldn’t have found the Herd. Is that character development, or was he still holding true to his boss’ ideals? You know… Herd/Group > Individual/Himself Now, Kron is a bad guy because he’s a *hypocrite.* …like when he puts *himself* before the Herd in the water-drinking scene. This movie is underrated, and I will absolutely die on this hill. EDIT: I'm a bit sad that you overlooked Aladar's Nadir moment. He had actually given up after Bruton's sacrifice. After digging a path out after Zinni first allowed the light in, and the subsequent cave in, Aladar had actually lost hope in his worldview. That if not for his idea of no man left behind, Bruton wouldn't have died. That if not for keeping up with the others, they wouldn't be trapped inside the cave with no way out. It was Bayleen who, after feeling reinvigorated due to Aladar's influence and virtues, pushed down the wall along with the others. That's where I disagree with you here; I don't think Aladar is a lukewarm protagonist. He is the antithesis of the other side of the coin behind the motif of the Herd. Where Kruton focuses on the Order of the Herd and importance of leadership, Aladar is the idea of Unity and compassion. He may be naive, but it is his virtues that inspire Unity and teamwork which helps the entire group move forward. That's what allows Aladar to be a good leader to the herd without the experience that Kruton has. I do wish we had seen a little more justification for Kruton's methods and why he is so foolhardy and stubborn, but you can definitely infer that he had daddy issues of some kind, probably never being the same after having to be the leader to Neera and take care of her as the older brother.

“Do you remember Dinosaur?” Yes, in fact I remember watching that film the first time back in 2000, before some of my current coworkers were even born. I also recall getting the video game adaptation while on vacation in Florida. This film was and still is classic to me. Aladar’s a character I appreciate more with age, Kron I’ve come to understand better with age, and Bruton’s small arc is just awesome, he goes out in similar fashion to Dinobot in Beast Wars. Eema was always hilarious (to be expected since she was voiced by Della Reese, check out Harlem Nights to see one of her best roles to me), and the Carnotaurus depiction is both iconic and terrifying, in fact the Carnotaurs are one of the finest examples of how you don’t have to have a villian talk to be great, similar to Cretaceous and Maelstrom in Ice Age 2. The visuals still look great after all these years and soundtrack is awesome. The story isn’t groundbreaking, but simple and effective, ending without any need for a sequel. Sure, you could argue Zini can be annoying, but his humor is not in the film a lot, they seemed to know when to stop short of him becoming unbearable. I know some didn’t like Yar, but I did. I found him funny, especially the few times he bantered with Eema. I never really had any major issues with this film. If anything, there’s aspects I picked up on that make it better, such as noticing the shot of the one Carnotaur eating the scout that traveled with Bruton. It’s disturbing, but it adds to the horror of the Carnotaurs feeling like a constant threat that could appear at any moment, making their presence felt even when they aren’t on screen. I will say this though… that scene where Aladar hides from the Carnotaur on his way to find the herd to tell them about the new way to the Nesting Grounds is unnerving, but… It’s WAY SCARIER in the PS1 game, because in that version… you are CHASED by the Carnotaur, the goal being to outrun it and reach the herd before it does, and the thing is programmed to nonstop chase you, the only way to slow it down is to use narrow shortcuts that force it to take a longer route.

Those poor carnotauruses man. Probably desperate for food if they're willing to chase a herd across a desert
@vilmublues7522 жыл бұрын
Yep, plus it's indicated that the surviving carnotaurus also wanted revenge, as it roared after finding out its companion had died.

@@vilmublues752 so everybody lived happily ever after except for the two starving carnotaurus

I love how back then the Carnotaurus was known for being Cretaceous hellspawn and now everybody knows it for the blue wiggly jazz hands mating dance from Prehistoric Planet

I loved this movie when I was a kid. Was a huge Land Before Time and Jurassic Park fan and this movie coming out years later just kept me really liking dinosaurs as a child.

So it seems like just about every reactor/reviewer I'm subbed to has been going over this movie recently. I'm guessing it's because JW: Dominion has gotten everyone in the mood for dinosaurs now. Anyway, my thoughts on Disney's Dinosaur is it has an ok story and alright characters, but the pacing kinda tanks once they join the herd.

My mom said I was basically obsessed with this movie when I was around 5 or 6 😅 completely forgot it existed until I found it on Disney plus a few weeks ago, it brought back so many memories!

That meteor scene gives me flashbacks, just the way the clouds grow in the background is fucking terrifying

*Slams desk* THANK YOU! I was and am still obsessed with this movie and hated how it has been treated. I am that person that will mention this movie, without fail, when someone brings up underappreciated films.

Thus far you've gone over every movie from my childhood and I'm all for it. I used to watch chicken run, iron giant, Dinosaur, el dorado, Atlantis, and treasure planet. Please keep my nostalgic childhood coming, could you do one on Titan A.E. next?

I am 23 years old. I’ve been obsessed with the movie Dinosaur since I was 3. I will watch this till the day I die, it’s one of my first memories, the movie will always be blessed. Thank you for bringing it back.

This was one of my earliest, _earliest_ movies, and goddammit, I still love it. I know it's got problems, but I think it's legitimately overlooked. It's got a lot of strengths and looks gorgeous for a 2000 film, even if the settings are mostly deserts.
