Since no one had mentioned it yet, when Wilbur slips on the step when going to see his mother, you can actually hear it in the first clip of the movie when we are first shown his mum. It is actually what causes her to turn around and end up leaving quickly. Just some cool time travel continuity.

I wish you would have commented on the Walt Disney quote that they showed: "Around here, however, we don’t look backwards for very long. We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things, because we're curious… and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths". This movie definitely embodies that quote, but it's also hilariously ironic, because that quote is essentially the opposite of what Disney is today. They rarely move forward, and are always looking backwards, trying to cash in on nostalgia with live action remakes and the like.
@ma.20892 жыл бұрын
It’s funny cuz Disney, while being a MASSIVE entrepreneur, also took risks. Lots of his stuff didn’t pan out. In some ways he was better than the other ppl in his position, like his support for women on his staff. The creative side of Disney follows his principles likely better than him (since he IS a capitalist after all), but the executives really don’t. They finance stupid cash grabs and bank on nostalgia. The only good thing I can think of more recently they’ve done is promote Kevin Feige. Him and his team actually have creative vision and he wanted to quit cus he hated his sexist & racist boss. But even that is cuz of money since Feige and his team rake in so much money.

I remember when this came out, and unfortunately I don’t think they had faith in it. It isn’t over-the-top kiddie enough for the little ones, and it isn’t “edgy” enough for adults like Dreamworks was doing. It’s just broadly funny and wholesome. It was marketed poorly too. I remember thinking it was pure sci-fi and it’s not. I only saw it because husband worked at a Blockbuster and brought home everything new. I love when people finally discover it.

Another neat little Easter egg: if you pay really close attention to the sounds in the opening scene, and the scene where Lewis goes back in time to see his mom, you'd realize that they actually sync up perfectly, in that Lewis was the noise that spooks his mom, as well as the one who knocked on the door in the beginning, after he'd already done everything.

You picked up on some of the twists ahead of time, but when I first watched this I had no idea that Lewis was the father or that Goob was Bowler Hat Guy up until the reveal. Doris betraying Goob, the science fair judges being Lewis' parents, the "Keep Moving Forward" quote being from Walt Disney himself... every twist got me despite any foreshadowing AND they all make perfect sense! Modern Disney's Twist Villains for The Sake of Having A Twist Villain could learn a thing or two!

I found out that I was adopted at a very young age, and I was never ashamed to say it, when I found out my parents thought I was going to hate them for "having lied to me", but it wasn't like that, I wasn't that kind of kid. When I saw this movie for the first time I already knew that I was adopted and it hit me different, this movie for me has a lot of emotional meaning as well as I think it teaches incredible values. Our family loved Meet the Robinsons when it came out! It was just so goofy and fun and well-written, and Bowler Hag Guy was a hoot. And the message was a good one - to move forward in spite of failure. Bowler Hat Guy was the example of what could happen when you obsess over the past, but because he was funny, the lesson could be learned in an appealing manner (and I appreciated Lewis taking the time to do right by him and wake him up when he went back to the present). What adds an additional layer of enjoyment, though, is watching the behind the scenes. The director of the movie was Stephen Anderson. He himself was adopted, and was faced with the same choice Lewis was: seek out his biological relatives, or accept that his adopted family was his true family. I think that personal connection to the story really allowed him to add a layer of authenticity to the film. Oh, and he voiced Bowler Hat Guy, too. If you've got about 20 minutes to spare, here's a link to the behind the scenes featurette: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n5q5YoKimMeloas . It's worth a watch.
