I have a couple of the Dobyns rods and they are a little under on the power rating compared to some of the other brands. I also have a few HMG Fenwick that are a little more powerful than other brands with the same power rating. One thing to remember is that all companies rate there blanks in there own way and one brands medium heavy could feel like another brands medium and so on. Long story short, I love my medium light colt series spinning rod! Its durable, its light and comfortable for all day fishing. I can target anything from bluegill to finesse bass techniques and is my go to rod for general all day fun.

Ordered one of these yesterday to pair with a concept z hopefully to use mostly for reaction Baits. Honestly I’ve used most brands of rods except for gloomis and other very high quality bands, because I wouldn’t spend more than 300 on a rod but i would really recommend the rod company Phoenix rods. The most sensitive for the money rods I’ve ever had and used. And tackle warehouse has sales on them pretty frequently👍

After using this rod extensively I’ve figured out a couple of things. 1. It is sensitive enough to use for jigs if you use it with braid. 2. The 7’3” heavy is more like a medium heavy moderate fast so I like it for chatterbaits and bigger squarebills. I’ve looked into phenix and will be branching out soon. Thanks for the comment!

I'm stuck between this rod? Or the picifun serpent rod 7'9 med-HEAVY? they are both in the price range I'm looking for.

Is this an im7 blank?
@cousinsfishing19703 жыл бұрын
Im7 blanks are just ok blanks. Not very sensitive. This dobyns rod is 100 times better than Piscifun rods. You won’t regret the dobyns

I really hope you don’t think that the sensitivity of a rod has to do with it being either a heavy or medium heavy power. The fact that a Dobyns colt not being all that sensitive has to do with it being an $80 rod. The more money you pay for a rod the higher quality of a rod blank you get which increases the sensitivity of the rod. I hope when you do reviews in the future you’re a little more knowledgeable about the products you’re reviewing. Doesn’t do your subscribers any good to review something your not fully educated on. Dobyns also rates their rods on the lighter end of the spectrum so a Dobyns heavy rod would typically be a medium heavy rod to another rod company, but that’s also because Dobyns uses higher grade material in their blanks making them more durable, sensitive, and stronger than other rods at that price point. If your going to buy Dobyns rods (which I recommend you do) buy colts for your topwater/reaction baits since they don’t require the sensitivity, and spend a little more money for a fury or sierra and use those for you bottom contact lures. Like Texas rigs and jigs that require the sensitivity that you need.

I know all of this. My wording was confusing but I got my point across, it’s not a sensitive rod. I know more about blanks than 90% of bass fisherman, which also means i know how sensitive Dobyns rods are compared to other rods. And quite frankly, Dobyns rods aren’t sensitive. They’re blanks are cheap. This is why I hate the “cult” mentality around the bass fishing industry. People are biased and don’t realize there’s better products than Dobyns.

Ok here we go…..the fact that you think you know more about blanks than 90% of bass fisherman tells me your absolutely full of shit. And it’s not cult mentality it’s what works for some and doesn’t for others. I have a buddy who fishes g loomis. And I am not crazy about them. It’s called preference. Dobyns are plenty sensitive they may just not be for you. (But you know that, seeing as you know more a long blanks than 90% of bass fisherman.) do yourself a favor and put the camera down to go practice and study…you need it
