I have a Dobyns fury FR 703C and couldn't be happier with it! Paired up with a Curado dc 151xg and it seems to be the setup I reach for most. I love the Dobyns story as well. My next is going to be the Colt series for my spinning setup (running Shimano SLX currently).

I totally agree with you, especially how they set guides on. Some of brands rod around $100 are really bad at that point.

For the price you can't beat the Fury. It really is a nice rod. I was very impressed with it's sensitivity and action.

Would this rod work well with lippless crankbaits jigs and jerk baits ? I never really use any massive baits normally i just use a jig with a crawfish trailer lol. My biggest thing is to have a good rod that i wont have to worry about it snapping in half! Is this fury the one for me ?

What's the problem with the line running on the blank. I own a kistler klx and it's a phenomenal stick but the line runs on the blank but I'm using 50lb braid and the rod is rated 17-25 mono could that have someth no to do with it Thanks

+miller murdaugh If the line hits the rod a lot it will slow the forward motion of the line and decrease your distance. This is more problematic with fly rods with fly line.

I'm really interested in this rod I'm just scared of The heavy power I have never fished one is it still sensitive or is it like fishing with a stick

It is pretty sensitive and far from fishing a stick. Have you tried the Abu Garcia Veritas? The Fury is much more responsive. Does not feel like a broomstick at all! One of my favorite rods to cast. Thanks for watching!

I bought this rod for some crankbaits the one that you have the 7-3 but I'm not sure if I bought the wrong rod for crankbaits do you think it would work well with them

This rod might be too stiff for crankbaits. I would suggest a rod with a Moderate action. A rod with moderate action will have more flex/bend in the rod. This flex will help hook with baits that have treble hooks. Stiffer rods like this one are perfect for jigs and baits with a heavier hook. It will allow you to set the hook better. The stiffer action of the rod will allow a better hook set. Hope this helps! Great Rod!

Its way to stiff of a rod for crankbaits.The Fury series has a specific rod for crankbaits.The 705cb.You want a parabolic rod for cranking.Keeps the fish on without ripping hooks out of there mouth.

This is probably a stupid question. But why are the guides on the Dobyns rod angled towards the tip and the last four eyelets at the tip nearly straight up and down? I looked at a Veritas rod, and they all seem to be straight up and down.

It's to help with line not getting stuck on the upper guides. More of a problem with braid if it wraps around the rod.

I love my Dobyn's Fury but how do u compare it to all the other $100 rods out there, especially the Duckett & St. Croix Mojo Bass rods??? Thanks and really appreciate it

Great Question! Don't get me wrong I love Duckett's Micro Magic Pro and I am a huge fan of St. Croix (Especially their Fly Rods). I think the new Mojo's are lighter and they have improved the guides. I like how St. Croix is innovative using nano-technology resin for some time now. The slight edge that the Fury has I feel is a more responsive rod tip, and the blank has a bit more sensitivity overall. They are all great choices so you can't really go wrong! How do you compare this rod, to the st. Croix, and fenwicks?

I prefer the action and sensitivity of the Fury compared to say the St Croix Mojo Bass. I am a St Croix fan and they are great rods. I haven’t had much experience with Fenwick to comment. I have purchased other Fury rods and have not been disappointed. I have one setup for Carolina Rigging. The rod allows you to feel the bottom. For the price you really can’t beat it. You won’t be disappointed. The Fury compared to the Mojo Bass just feels lighter and much more responsive. Appeal wise I think St Croix is more eye appealing. I just got one. I'm enjoying it. there's not much difference between this rod and there next model up it seems. maybe minus the clear that model has. but who cares about clear.

I just picked up this exact rod to replace my 7'3" hvy Duckett for frogin, is it a good hollow body frog rod? My Duckett was until one of the guides broke off

I haven't used it for Frogs but you should be pretty happy with it! A lot of power and sensitivity for such a low priced rod.

I bought this Rod also for frogs and was losing a lot of fish because because the tip has to much flex, which is good for launching the frogs but was popping the frog out of there mouth a good percentage of the time, now this is my go to medium sized jig rod and pitching Lil heavier plastics and I love it for that technique, I also purchased the 734 heavy and that Rod is only for my frogs, I'm not popping them out there mouth with this rod, lil stiffer tip, hope that helps you but it's just my opinion and personal preference

TackleTalk TV Yea idk wat he's talking about, I've had the rod for some time now and it's an amazing frog rod. He says the tip is softer than his 4 power heavy? Not a chance! This is a mag/hvy it's a 5 power so idk where he got the idea that his 4 power heavy has a stiffer tip, plus it says right on the rod that it's ideal for frogs, flipping, pitching, small swimbaits
