TIP for using hole saw. Drill a 6mm hole just on the inside of the line of your circle before using the hole saw. The 6mm hole will allow saw dust to escape and greatly improve the hole saw performance.

Hey, that sounds like a good advice. I drilled quite a few holes, but never tried that one! next time.. :)

If you need a good finish on both sides of the wood with the hole saw, drill until the pilot hole breaks through and then finish from the other side. Stops the wood splintering.

I have to admit that in your first videos I did think you were deluded, but as things have developed, I think that the work you have done is amazing. I’m sure it doesn’t meet the steely qualities demanded by the regular ‘salty sea dogs’, but you have made incredible progress by doing things your own way. You have a working boat which you have saved by means of your own sweat (and sometimes blood!) Well done!! 👍👍

Great job on the barge motor mount. Suggestion: use some the thin scrap medal you might have left over from previous patch work on the boat and fabricate two small squares to be glued on both sides of the new motor mount. The metal will stop the mounting hardware from digging in to the plywood.

Just a small point, you should have the rope attached to the boat when you jump onto the pontoon, then tie it to the pontoon. That way the boat cant drift away. I have watched every episode today all 37 so far, I have enjoyed every second.

Here’s a little sea keep help. First I know you didn’t have help but with a boat that size you should have help docking. This can be done safely with out a hassle by yourself. Use your fender properly, meaning left them bump the barge, When docking a line (rope) should come from the boat to the dock/pier from the stern if you are approaching from in line going forward. This will allow the boat to be pull against the dock/pier/barge where your docking. Go slow little movement until you get the handle on it. The first set of cleats is when you need to move from the helm to the dock with the boat out of gear/in neutral, grab your stern line and put three or four turns on the cheat until the boat stop forward movemnt. Then just move forward and get your bow line. Easy paesy lemon squeeze!

I've been following your channel and am impressed with all the work you've done to date. A small word of caution regarding your anchor and chain set up. The type of carabiner shackle you have used to connect the chain to the swivel will in time work loose even with thread lock. My suggestion would be to use a standard galvanized u-shaped anchor shackle that has a threaded pin that can be seized with stainless wire or even a nylon wire tie to prevent that pin from working loose. Keep up the great work :)
@bkluex58183 жыл бұрын
nice boat and a lot of work!!! Tip: If you have to dock without help, keep going slowly ahead and use the stern line first (like in a a lock) and then the bow line.
@VAdu563 жыл бұрын
round the corners of your platform ... a tip, and put a Cleat in the middle, because when you arrive you are sure that your boat will not start from the front or the rear ... !! Bravo for your engine support work on the platform, as well as your new helm control console ... !! one day it will be necessary to think about the electric windlass, and to pass cables first would be smart before finishing everything inside ... a minimum 1000 Watts, cables of 70mm² ... !!

change one of the 5 bolts thru the engine bed to a longer bolt or change one of the nuts to a coupling nut.. so you can add a chain to prevent the outboard from sliding off the engine bed mounting.. you can also after the outboard is mounted.. circle the area the screw mounting pads fit.. use a forstner bit to drill a counter bore for the pad on the screw to stop the engine from kicking out of place

For drilling holes in steel, you will find it goes much quicker if you use a cutting fluid. It reduces friction, speeds up the drilling and reduces wear on your drill bit. I very much enjoyed the drone shot of you docking single-handed. It's not so easy!

If you put on a 1/2 section a roof on that docking. Then that way you could put solar panels on there and some extra battery sections in that build will and be able to have some lights on it and then that way you sit out there and enjoy yourself like a patio

May I suggest you add a ball fender (Kugelfender). Makes you life easier at the bow of the boat when you dock as you did in the beginning of the video. But it will be useful as well when docking stern-to in some marinas. Again great work & video! Cheers
@jukeman573 жыл бұрын
I believe the new barge/dock is going to be essential to your continued work. Plus, when your a point where you feel your finished (you know really you never will be), it is going to be a great place to lounge and grill. Might consider erecting some type of temporary shade. Great video.

Next time use a 1/8 pilot drill bit and work your way up it will not take nearly as long. Smart move to seal everything up with epoxy resin. You should build a couple comfortable seats with a steering wheel setup and also build a canopy above the seats on your deck.

Need some bollards on that raft. A few turns around a bollard with a spring line, attached midship, to halt her and bring her along side. Continue forward with a bow line/Painter to cleat her off. Returning to the stern, gather up the bitter of the spring line and lasso a stern cleat on the boat. A pike on deck or carried with helps with the last bit.

When drilling regular construction steel, keep the drill revs low, which may require to use a series of on/off switches (i.e., switching the drill on and off). This way you don't need any cobalt drill bits and can use simple HSS bits. A drop of oil will not hurt either.

If you plan on setting an analog compass in the pilot house then placing it on boat center line on the console will keep it accurate. A metal hull boat affects compass calibration even with compensators.

Maybe you can get an easy up tent for shade, you can make pins or screws to hold it down. Use lard to lubricate when drilling into metal.
