I had total reverse shoulder surgery in February 2024, had several weeks of PT and went back to work in May 13. Little over 3 months but can do my job with a little fine tuning...the job is the same. The way I do it it changed. Some muscle pain but just from working the muscles back into shape. It was 100% successful.

Thank you so much for your comment. The internet is indeed filled with horror stories about total shoulder replacement. In the early days of this operation, many orthopedic surgeons were still learning how to use reverse implants effectively, especially in patients with rotator cuff tears. Fortunately, the outcomes of total shoulder replacement today are much better than their reputation might suggest. I'm glad to hear that you are back to work and doing well.

Great outcome!! I am looking to a reverse total myself. Biggest problem is I’m alone and the needing someone to stay for 24hrs after is hard to find. I’ve had a rotator cuff repair years ago, so both will hopefully be fixed. My surgeon is AAA+. Thanks for your advice

I had a total reverse shoulder replacement in April 2023. It really wasn't that painful compared to what I was going through. The healing was quick. I kept up with the PT & now the swelling is GONE! God bless Dr. Naik & his skills.

Thank you so much for blessing your doctor, and your testimony. Reverse total shoulder replacement really has been a blessing for so many. The operation seems to have a bad reputation. I really think this came about because of confusion when the reverse became available about limiting it to patients with rotator cuff tears. In any event, I’m seeing much better results now. What a delight. So glad you are one of them.

I had it done one month ago. I found a surgeon who specialized in them. When I asked him how many he had done he told me over 200 this year! No pain except sometimes during rehab.

Great job in your search! The medical literature for hips and knees makes a strong case for what is intuitively obvious... higher volume is better. For those cases higher volumes have half the complications. I would assume we will ultimately find out the same thing for total shoulder replacement. I hope you are enjoying your new shoulder!

I'm 27 and I might need a shoulder replacement because I have Grade 4 chondral loss in my right shoulder. Super scared but I think it will be for the best as I've been battling with shoulder pain and problems for 6 years. Had my third surgery in July and that's when I found out about the arthritis

The main thing is to find a surgeon who does a lot of shoulder replacement surgeries. In some communities it's a joint replacement surgeon, while in others it's someone who specializes in sports medicine. It's always fair to ask a surgeon how many of this type of surgery they did last year. Ask the surgery scheduler how many of these cases they put on a week as well to confirm. Physical therapists are also great sources of info on who the good surgeons are.

You need to research and then inform your viewers about shoulder “resurfacing”. I just had this done by Dr Pritchett in Seatle WA. Quick recovery and no activity limitations. Half the price as total shoulder.

I had that done several years ago and am still getting a total replacement due to arthritis aggressively taking over my shoulder . I grow spurs like weeds and have also had my foot resurfaced and will do it again soon.

I’m deathly allergic to Titanium. What can do or request? The last surgeon that ignored my statement nearly ended my life with Titanium staples.

You can and should get reviews by surgeons who do the procedure. But they’re also biased in favor of surgery. I’m trying to give you my take on it. And point out the features of the best surgeons.

Honestly, I’m a little disappointed that you didn’t explain what a reverse shoulder replacement accomplishes. Since the rotator cuff can no longer hold the ball into the glenoid socket, the distance is changed so that the deltoid muscle itself is stretched a little bit to hold it in socket. This will change the mechanics and aesthetics of the shoulder. Roses and sunshine.

it depends on the restrictions the surgeon applies. Not everyone does that permanent 20 pound restriction.

I had a total shoulder replacement in 2019. Was told I couldn’t lift anything over 35lbs with my right arm. I let the doctor get in my head. Long story short had a friend call that’s having the same surgery he wanted advise. I told him about giving up the gym those days are over. He said that’s not true anymore. They want you to take it easy (no more 405lbs on the bench) but they don’t want you not to lift. There’s too many health benefits to weight training. I’ve been back in the gym for a couple months now and feel like a million bucks. Also starting to get my physique back.
